Hi all,

am just building a recovery cd and would like to use boosect.dos and Ntbootdd.sys for the native NTFS support. Can anyone help me out with these files.... they are found on dual boot configurations usually win95/98 and Windows NT/2000/XP.

I would really appreciate it if you can help!

Okay, I guess I will have to try and install VM Ware too. Just curious but can I access the internet with VMware? I can't with VPC for one thing. If so then I can set up the extensions that I need and everything on the new install and deploy that.
Btw, what is the program called from vmware that I am looking for, i've gone to their website once and its way too complex, I can't seem to find out what software is what.

I agree 100% with the snoozer, but then if you cannot do it with a batch file and regedit, it's not for me. If I were to use another method, I would simply log on to a new installation, make all my desired changes, save the user's registry hive file (NTUSER.DAT), and copy it to the Default User's profile during setup.

Can this method be used for NVE for example? Also does it stop all those damned associations to Nero Showtime etc....
All I want from Nero is the burning package and recode (with nero digital)

ZileXa's way will address your need for just "burning package and recode (with nero digital)" as for the associations - create a registry file and remove them

I've found a NEW (very fast) method to create a silent STRIPPED install of Nero, no need for zero-byte files!:
Make sure you have the following files in $OEM$\$$\System32:
7za.exe
cmdow.exe
shortcut.exe (only need this one if you want this package to create shortcuts)
1. Download nero, start installer and copy the contents of RARSFX0 in your \Documents and Settings\profile\Local Settings\Temp to a new folder (Nerosilent for example).
2.
Now, in this folder, rename SYSTEM to system32, Common Files to 'Ahead'.
Create 3 folders, and place the renamed folders as shown:
Nerosilent\Windows\System32
Nerosilent\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead,
3.
Create a new folder 'Ahead' in Nerosilent\Program Files
Now copy ONLY the folders you want to be installed to this 'Ahead' folder:
Nero
Nero Toolkit
CoverDesigner
ImageDrive (recommended for removal if you don't need virtual cd drives)
Nero BackitUp (100% recommended for removal!)
Nero StartSmart (100% recommended for removal!)
Nero Soundtrax (100% recommended for removal!)
Nero Wave Editor (100% recommended for removal!)
Delete all other files folders (folders 'Setup', 'WMPBurn', 'Redist' and the files Setup.exe setup.cfg, VersionInfo.txt) _{they are not part of the Nero program and be deleted.}

You can copy paste the items of your languagepack to the folders. Also you can DELETE the german and Japanese languagefiles (dunnow why but they are there)! (search for files with DEU/JPN in the name...)

Now select Windows and Program files and create a 7zip file (for example Nero.7z).

Hi ZileXa,

This is the method i have been using and it is working like a treat! One issue that i thought i would raise is that this will only work if you are installing your applications to drive C: I have been experimenting with installations to drive D: but as yet have not come up with a simple solution. We could extract the contents to a tmp location and then copy to the right locations - D:\program files, D:\program files\common file and c:\windows... but i am looking to see if we can make it more simple than that. Will keep you posted.

Yep - as I said the reg keys control the look and feel of the taskbar, including Quick launch - the order, the amount of icons visible in quick launch the taskbar height etc. Give it a try you will see yourself.

Hi all,

For 3 days i have been reading posts from members "after searching" for a clear cut method of automatically creating a 2 partitions (C: D:) on hard-drive 1 during the unattended setup of windows. After all my reading and some experimenting with different ideas i am no closer to a solution.

Can anyone suggest a solution? I would like it to work as part of the unattended installation. I have tried settings the

ExtendOemPartition = 3000;(size_in_MB)

so that at least drive c: would be 3gb and then i was going to have a

DetachedProgram="%systemdrive%\install\batch.cmd"

to run the commands required to process drive d:, however drive C: but this solution didn't work.

Ideas, suggestions most welcome.

I'm using Virtual PC trial edition. I am not quite sure why Its not installing perfectly.. maybe I need to delete all registry settings before the install? Before using your technique I had it install firefox alone and it worked, but no extensions or settings so I uninstalled it, deleted the program files folder for it, and the folder in my docs / settings folder. Maybe there were some registry settings that I needed to delete?
If you want I can upload my install and you can check it out, see if it works alright with you.

I peronsally use Vmware, the ms solution was not to my liking. I would suggest that you start with a completely clean vm and and clean default install of Windows. Then install Firefox and any extensions and themes you want - Then create your deployment file.

I have tested the guide process many times and it has worked everytime without fail, however i do run on a clean version of windows each time.

Hi everybody,
I found a small bug in CreateProfile.vbs and FFDeploy.vbs
Microsoft localize the name of the desktop folder and a path such C:\Documents and Settings\your_name\desktop\Firefox become C:\Documents and Settings\your_name\Bureau\Firefox in a French Windows version. I suppose it's the same problem with German, Spanish, Russian ..... versions.
Other trick: I install my extensions with the -install-global-extension switch of Firefox

What about if a new version is out ?
With this deployment, if a new version of Firefox is out ? Shall we uninstall the current version on the PC ? Or can we install the newest version on the older ?

Yes you can install any new version over the top of the current one and that will pick up your existing settings.

If you are creating a new deployment file, then i suggestion a clean install on a clean machine.

I did a search on this but couldn't find anything on quick launch outside of the on-going 25-year-old debate in the regtweaks thread about whether or not the published "Show Quick Launch Bar" tweak works.
I'm looking to find a way to automatically sort the Quick Launch bar into the order that I want. I can't even seem to find out where this information is stored, much less how to duplicate/port it.
Does anyone have any ideas how to go about this? It's not a major issue, but resorting a QL consisting of 20 or so icons is a chore I would much rather automate if possible...

Thats it. They are long keys, however they contain all the information about your taskbar, quick launch bar and the order of icons. So for example if you wanted to have a 2 line taskbar as i have - then these steps would be the same.

Now all you need to do is include them in your default user NTUSER.DAT hive and then all users will get the order you have set. If you want to know how to do this - see my guide link below.

Hey felix,
I just 'tested' it out on my VPC setup i have. First i removed uninstalled firefox from the add/remove in CP, deleted the firefox directory from program files, and deleted the folder for mozilla from my user/application data folder. I ran the silent file to install it all and it seemed to work, but after it finished, when I launched firefox (from the desktop), it opened but without any extensions showing.
I checked tools -> extensions and i saw all of them there, but I could not go into the options of any of them. I was able to install them.
ANy idea why this may have happened? Does it only work when you add it to your cmdlines or runonceex?

No ideas why your custom install is not working correctly. I have tried to duplicate your issues here without success. Are you using vmware or similar to create your custom install? I have tested with VMware and all works fine.

... and how much would it cost?
I've got a regtweaks file, an unattended.MST for O2K3, a default theme, and a list of programs I want installed. I've put about 3 days of work into this and I know I'm close but can't get things working. I have no more time to waste on this (I could have installed the OS and all the settings 10 times by now) and need someone experienced. Also, it might be cool to use one of the post installer programs, but I don't have time to figure out which one would be best for me. It would be great to have a direct discussion with someone.

ok this runs when a user logs on after an upgrade or rebuild. The best place for it is in the default user NTUSER.DAT hive under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurentVersion\RunOnce

If you want to know how to add commands to the NTUSER.DAT hive during unattended installs - have a look at he link at the bottom of my signature. read the guide carefully and you will find out how to do this safely.

If you want some more help let me know.

The 3rd party utils - just put them in %systemdrive%\windows\system32 then they will run from anywhere.

just thought i would make a report that i am seeing the same issue as toe_cutter, when i save, reopen make adjustments and save again i get double %PP% entires and obviously more if i do it again..
This problem was already solved in the latest release. i think you got version 2.6.0.0 beta 1 instead of beta 2

I have downloaded the latest version available on your site and i am also seeing this problem.

Also when you click on the file menu to save etc as your mouse goes over new, the current document is closed a new document is opened - have you got a mouse over function in there - it seems to be a bug to me.

Further, the when using CDROM variables, the line inserted is incorrect.

You should remove the : at their the %%i: or next to each of the drive letters.
