  1. Which version exactly of Media Player Classic do you actually use? Look "Help" -> "About" in the program, and look for revision number. I have a version "revision 82", which works without KernelEx. And I additionally actually test a "revision 107" from February 14th 2010; but this newer version seems to work only with KernelEx. Mysteriously is the following: It does not work if I disable KernelEx for this version. But it works, if I activate the Win98SE(!) compatibility mode. What is the difference between the KernelEx "built-in" Win98SE compatibility mode and the "real" Win98SE? Relying to your codec problems: Had you ever tried FFdshow-filters?
  2. Well, I think I've found the reason for the described issue. See my post in the KernelEx-Thread. It seems to me that the missing file Mscms.dll caused the issue. It had been removed from System-directory by 98Lite during removing "ICM colour profiles".
  3. Perhaps but I don't think those you specifically mention should be an issue... But perhaps other such Windows components, see below... OK, I can tell news: The issue seems to be solved! It was definitely not a KernelEx problem. (That means, the discussion can be moved to the other thread.) The problem was following: I had removed ICM colour profiles with 98Lite. This included (or more precisely "excluded"...) the file Mscms.dll from the C:\Windows\System directory. File properties of Mscms.dll say "Microsoft Color Matching System DLL". I copied it manually back, and now all Flash 10 versions are able to work (in principle) on both computers, even on the notebook with Intel PIII CPU. Heaven only knows why Flash 10 requires this mysterious file Mscms.dll, but Flash 9 does not . Maybe oc_dt had the same problem (he described installed, but not working Flash 10).
  4. Yes I have. The thing is, with Flash 10 right-clicking into flash does not work, because there is no flash box. But I had changed this setting with Flash 9 before uninstalling it and replacing by Flash 10.
  5. I have tried different flash 10 versions - all with the same result: A white area instead of flash box. I tried even to disable Java to exclude it as reason for the issue. For results on adobe's test page see the images attached below. Both images show adobe's test site, one with Flash 10 and the other one with Flash 9. This is all with disabled Java. Flash 9 shows the version Info, Flash 10 does not so. I dimly remember that I had installed an early Flash 10 version a long time ago, and that it worked at that time (without KernelEx and not stable, but I had a Flash box generally). Could removed Windows components (with 98Lite) be the reason? I have e.g. removed Windows' Shockwave Player, MS-XML-Support, msinfo and some other. Is any of them required for Flash 10?
  6. Unfortunately I must report non-working Flash10.x (with severel Firefox-Versions, and even Opera tested), described here Firefox 2.0.0.20 with Flash 10.x Does not work, even with KernelEx 4.5.1. Installation of different Flash 10 version is no big problem. But if I go to Adobe's Flash test page, I only get a white area instead of a "flash-box". This is also on all(!) other sites with flash content. I suppose Java JRE is not responsible. Also I suppose not the browser is the reason, because this occurs with different Firefox-Versions. I tried different KernelEx compatibility settings for the flash file NPSWF32.DLL, with no success. So I don't understand why I always read in internet "flash 10 works with KernelEx in Win98SE" ? Her this isn't so. I tested it on an old notebook with Intel Pentium III CPU and on my old PC with AMD T-Bred-B CPU. What could be the reason? - German Version of Win98SE (instead of the English one)? - any missing system updates (which I don't know)? - some removed Windows components (some of them with 98Lite)? - missing Codec-Packs? - wrong KernelEx version? - wrong KernelEx settings for $browser.exe and/or the NPSWF32.DLL? - wrong registry-entries? For me, I must finally say "Flash 10 is not generally working on Win98SE, with unknown reason".
  7. Well, I've tried several Flash 10 versions with Firefox 2.0.0.20, Firefox 3.5.x, and Opera 10.x. And it worked never. Installation was not the problem, only working in the browser. Probably is any "hidden" system-setting in Win98SE responsible for the refusing flash .
  8. How did you install this flash version: With KernelEx disabled, or default mode? What is the compatibility setting for firefox.exe? Does flash also work, if you disable KernelEx for firefox.exe and/or the NPSWF32.dll? But I see that you have WinME and not Win98SE. Maybe WinME is "more flash-compatible" than Win98SE.
  9. Has anybody managed it that Firefox 2.0.0.20 works with any Flash Version 10 & KernelEx? I have installed KernelEx 4.5.2 on a Computer for testing. I could install Flash 10.1 there without big problems. But if I (for example) want to wath any youtube-video, there is only... nothing at the place where should be the "box" with the video inside . Of course I can still use my Flash 9 NPSWF32.dll (with version-number-hack) to see most videos (including youtube). But unfortunately this NPSWF32.dll seems not to work on all videos. For example, Videos on german NBA page do not work (also some other videos not). How should KernelEx be used (which settings) to make Flash 10.1 work properly with Firefox 2? Or is this impossible? Is Firefox 3.x needed for Flash 10.1? (But I like Firefox 2 more, because it seems to be more stable.) Depends it on Java-Version? There is installed JRE (Java) 6.20. Is the reason maybe the CPU? (Is a AMD Athlon XP T-Bred "enough"?) But works with Flash 9, so I don't think so. Or is there any other Flash 10 version which works with FF 2.
  10. I copied a MS Word 2000 folder from another PC to my Win98SE-PC (with Word2000 uninstalled) and tried to start winword.exe. But this didn't work; i got an error message which told me to "really" install Word2000... Well, I tried this with "custom installation" from Word2000-CD. But I got unwanted MS programs after that : MS Netmeeting Outlook Express WebPublishing(?) Which important registry keys are stored during Word2000 installation (which are necessary to start winword.exe)? Maybe it's only needed to set the "right" registry settings to get the winword.exe working...? Or another way: Is there a possibility to do a "really" custom Word2000 installation, e.g. by editing the setup.ini from the Word2000 CD? But I don't know how I should edit this file.
  11. That sounds good. Is it needed to choose a special option in 98Lite during installation to keep the quick launch toolbar (but remove "the main" of Internet Explorer)?
  12. I plan to try a "clean" test-installation of Win98SE with the program 98Lite, maybe without Internet Explorer. Is ist possible to use the Quicklaunch-Option in the taskbar, if I simply deactivate Internet Explorer in 98Lite during Win98SE installation? Or is the full Internet Explorer required for the Quicklaunch-bar?
  13. Good tip! I did this, and the "hack" with the adobe-website did really work. That means, the site reported version 10,0,45,2 . But this hack did unfortunately NOT work with the one site which embedded video(s) I wanted to see: "Mediathek" of the German TV channel ARD. There worked no video clip. (Question: Does any video clip on this site work with your hacked NPSWF32.DLL?) But I found an additionally hack, that semmingly solved the problem: I downloaded a little program called Resource-Hacker 3.4.0 (you should get a file reshack.zip while downloading). With this programm I changed the resources "Version Info" of NPSWF32.DLL (which I get by right-clicking on "properties" of NPSWF32.DLL). I substituted all occurences of 9.0.246.0 to 10.0.45.2 r246 to r45 9.0 to 10.0 It seemes that this made the mentioned site (with the embedded videos) working now B) ... (I will report whether my modified NPSWF32.DLL works stable.)
  14. Does exist a program, that can change version number of files? Especially I want to change version number 9.0.246.0 of my NPSWF32.dll to 10.0.42.5. I suppose that some websites check the version number of this file, and that's why I can't see flash content on this websites.
  15. I've found KernelEX by searching for a possibility to run Firefox 3.x under Win98SE... It works indeed on my german version of Win98SE. Firefox installation is no problem. I actually write from within Firefox 3.x . But I notice some small(?) issues, independent of using KernelEx 3.6a (with kexver.ini) or KernelEx 4.0 (with the compability tab). The issues furthermore occure independent of using Firefox 3.01 (file Firefox_Setup_3.0.12.exe directly from Mozilla homepage) or Firefox 3.5 (file Firefox Setup 3.5.1.exe). Problems: 1.) Minor font errors like here FF 3.5, but in my opinion this is a very 'light' issue. 2.) Very long loading time at some web pages; some examples: - Advanced Google search Loading lasts often about 3-4 seconds; quiet slow for this site and even sometimes after Firefox is started already. In the Firefox's status bar while loading: "waiting for www.google.de...". These 3-4 seconds are nerving, when I often use Advanced Google search. - German Firefox Wiki site. It seems, like with the advanced Google search site described above, that firefox.exe(?) 'hangs' a little bit. CPU usage is about 95%. Loading of this Wiki site lasts often about 15(!) seconds. - The 'strangest' example: Rendering time test for browser. At this site I have about CPU usage about constant 95%, loading lasts always at least 4 minutes(!) . This effect stays even if I save the site on my HDD, so it isn't a connection/network settings problem. Try out yourself... The reason for 2.) must be firefox 3.5 or KernelEx or Win98SE, because: All these sites (and some others) load much faster in IE6 and FF2 (installed for comparison). But there are also much sites, where Firefox 3.5 works normally, and is even faster than IE6 and FF2... What I have tried (but didn't work): - Deleted XPC.mfl and XUL.mfl in Profiles folder of firefox and replace by folders with names XPC.mfl and XUL.mfl. - Deleted complete Firefox profiles folder. - Tried several KernelEx Versions (0.34a, 0.36a, 4.0). - Tried to install Firefox 2 and install Firefox 3 "over" Firefox 2 in the same folder. - Deactivated all Firefox plugins (especially java and/or javascript). - Startet firefox.exe in safe-mode. - Set the KernelEx tab for firefox.exe manually to "WinXP SP2". If it should be important: My unicows.dll version: 1.1.3790.0 ... user32.dll version: 4.10.2231 I'm interested: Have some other users also the problems 1.) and 2.)? Should I update some other system files? Or try something in the internal Firefox settings, accessible via "about:config"?
