sounds like what i have, but what i did was, on the NIC that is connected to the DSL, i unticked TCP/IP in the network connection properties, this way it doesnt try and get an IP via DHCP... and works straight away

Hey guys, I'm running XP SP2, and when I reboot, the boot screen scrolls once, then i see the lwelcome screen for about 30seconds, then background for about 1minute, then the taskbar, desktop icons appear. Any idea on what could be causing this, or how to find out / resolve? In Event viewer, theres a lot of DCOM errors saying: DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service SENS with arguments "" in order to run the server: {D3938AB0-5B9D-11D1-8DD2-00AA004ABD5E} Could this be the problem? Edit: I set the SENS service to manual, shaved a few seconds (2 - 5) off the waiting time. During the Welcome Screen -> Background there is no HDD activity until the last second when it loads the icons / taskbar. Edit: I disabled the following services, now bootup time (restart -> desktop is about 15seconds), Computer Browser, Server, TCP/IP NetBios Helper So yeah, could have been those services Thanks Title Edited - Please follow new forum rules from now on -- Martin L

I did what SolidasRock said, except used MaSaI installer to edit the original MSN .msi file, that way it has the same installer interface, except install's pre-patched.

I've searched for "cut down Nero 7", "Nero 7.0.1.2" and found nothing. Sorry for being a PITA

I downloaded the Nero 7.0.1.2, and was wondering if there is a way to rip all the stuff out of it except what i want.. ive seen "Nero 7.0.1.2 Core Release", which is just Nero Burning Rom. Is there a guide on how to do this somewhere (without NCAB)? Thanks, Juzman

Hey guys, I gots a problem.. I installed Windows XP SP2, everything works fine, but... If i run: start -> run -> \\pcname it opens the networked pc fine, but if i open a shared folder on the pc, the window just dissappears... The same thing happens if i go through windows explorer -> my network places (the window dissappears when i open a shared folder on the pc, but i can view what shares there are fine). Any ideas? Hey guys, I tried for about 1hr to create an XP SP2 bootscreen for my custom XP cd with BootEditor to no avail I was wondering if someone would be willing to help create it for me? This is the image: boot.bmp (13kb). It looks weird just viewing it, but when loaded in BootEditor, it looked fine. Thanks heeps! Edit: Okay, so i got it going, is there a way to compress it and use on the cd, eg, would makecab ntoskrnl.exe then copy to I386 on CD work? Thanks Edit: nvm, i used modifype, and makecab
