You'll need to buy this: http://www.valleyseek.com/product.action?itemID=2570 EDIT You need to know better your motherboard, it HAS a Serial port, on page 2-33 from english manual, you'll see the COM port there. Is labed as COM1 too. Gradius For CC, BSY and 0 LBA errors, is just IMPOSSIBLE to fix it by means of software only and without this guide, or something very very expensive tool (over US$ 10k) like PC-3000. Gradius

The probably true behind all this crappy issue: Seagate Technology To Shed Almost 3,000 Jobs; Announces Officer Change-DJ Wednesday, 14 Jan 2009 02:22pm EST Dow Jones reported that Seagate Technology said it would cut about 6% of its worldwide workforce and lower the salaries of its top officers by as much as 25% as part of a restructuring plan. The Company also replaced Chief Executive Bill Watkins and President Dave Wickersham with company Board Chairman Stephen Luczo. Seagate said the job cuts announced were included in the 10% U.S. layoff figure. The Company says about 2,950 workers will be laid off in total. So is confirmed (at least to me), it's a sabotage from some those Seagate workers (now losing his job). This issue (SD15) is there since around June or July 2008.   5. Hmm, it's a 320GB. By entering S/N on Seagate's site, it appear as AFFECTED, or not? Since Seagate is still studying if they will release a firmware for that model, the best bet is to wait to get a new firmware for your drive, or just use the warranty and RMA it, after all they'll fix and recovery the datas, so no data loss (?). I don't want to alarm you, but this "Error 1008 DETSEC 0000500D" is related to hardware failure. Your drive is refusing to write any information to the plates, another probably is caused by a serious SD11 bug (even worst than SD15), this is why I mentioned about a firmware update first. Gradius
  6. Oh yes baby !! I just fixed my ST3750330AS with AD14 firmware (it was SD15 originally). :thumbup YESSS!! I love myself (hehe). Now I have just 2 (two) HDs to recovery (both are with BSY problem). Hey donnerzusel, I have the solution. Your drive is a ST31000340AS with SD15, and now it have a AD14, right? If so, just burn this ISO (at 4x max), disconnect every drive (except the bad one), config your BIOS to IDE or IDE Extended (don't use it as RAID or AHCI), then boot the CD and follow the simple instructions. Keep in mind this will ONLY works for those with SD15, SD16, SD17, SD18, SD19 and AD14 drives and those models: ST3500320AS, ST3640330AS, ST3750330AS, ST31000340AS Fixed SD1A firmware Don't forget to unrar with WinRAR (.iso inside) before to burning.   9. This might be caused for something more severe problem on drive. The drive just went into 0 LBA error after a reboot? After that, you didn't tried anything else (like trying to upgrade the firmware, etc) ?   14. After checking the HDs with HD Tune, under Info I get no cache information (buffer) at all on newer drives. I have 2x1TB with CC1F (buffer appears as n/a). On all other HDs (olders), even Seagate brand, the buffer shows correctly. They say CC aren't not affect, but I'm very scared, because it could means the old cache bug is still there ! Gradius

  17. I see. If you get a S.M.A.R.T. error, then 99% sure is caused by an 0GB LBA error. If so, apply 0GB LBA fix. Good luck! Gradius

  19. Hi kadolf, The right command for it isn't "m0 2,2"... You forgot a comma after m0 this is the right command: F3 T>m0,2,2,0,0,0,0,22 (enter) Please, keep in mind the commands should be 100% equal to the guide. A mistake on command could leaving to data loss, or blinking the drive for good. About the adapter, as long you get a terminal response, you're good. It doesn't matter at all if is a MAX232 based, similar, or something totally different. I'll be using a different one (non-MAX232) very soon (when it arrieves here) for my HDs. Gradius

I don't wanna start offtopic stuff here, you can use the other Seagate's topic for it, but I'll just try to resume what we know so far. The probable cause for this might be two: - Seagate's DBs are still incomplete and they're still working (?) to compile a complete and reliable (?) DB; - They have absolutely NO idea how many drives are affected, so they prefer to watch a lot more p0rn than trying to fix this issue.   21. You should get, but you can press CTRL+Z at anytime, it doesn't hurt anything, it just let you enter CMDs. If even after CTRL+Z you get nothing, then it might be your PCB is in halt mode (BSY-like), and you'll need to disconnect the PCB from HDA. If even after that you continue to get nothing, there're something wrong you're doing. Silly question, did you power up the HDD drive too ? If not, you must. Gradius

  23. Thanks. Are you sure didn't you mixed TX with RX ? Are you sure RS232 is configured to 38400 8 N 1 ? Keep in mind you need a RS232 to TTL conversor/adapter, otherwise it will never works! If all above is correct, did you pressed CTRL+Z in order to get into CMD mode ? If so, try to disconnect the PCB from HDA, and check it. Gradius
