  1. Sometimes there is a jumper to configure 3GB/1.5GB in this connector. What power supply do you use? At least you need 2A@12V, 2A@5V. Better: - 1 (one) adapter ($4)http://alldav.com/index.php?main_page=prod...;products_id=11 You can connect the +5V line to the floppy connector or to 3V battery Because the others adapters use USB ports and drivers.
  2. 1.- Can you see if jumper is into 4 pins connector? 2.- You change baudrate, from 38400 to others (sometimes the baudrate is configured to 9600) 1. I dont understand what you mean 2. Yes i changed the baudrate to 9600 and i try other USB ports and i try to connect the GND to the GND from the SATA power cable and i try to slow down the FIFO-Puffer from the COM port and i try all that on another PC. Nothing works i only see these garbage characters. I have no more ideas. 1. Have you removed "the jumper" from the connector? You connect only GND and RX pins, power on the hdd and post the results.
  3. 1.- Can you see if jumper is into 4 pins connector?2.- You change baudrate, from 38400 to others (sometimes the baudrate is configured to 9600)
  4. I think that you have connected RX to GND or your cable is wrong. You unconnect the hdd and try null-modem joining RX with TX for check your cable.
  5. You check your cable, join RXs with TXs and put correct baudrate: 38400, 8, N, 1, None
  6. I think that the cable need power supply:10 DGND Digital ground <-------- Negative terminal of 3V battery 11 Vcc DC + for battery charging + External accessory powering <-------- Positive terminal of 3V battery Schematic: http://pinouts.ru/CellularPhonesCables/eri...le_pinout.shtml Configure your hyperterminal: 38400, 8, N, 1, None
  7. Are you using "spaces" before U and Z commands? Correct F3 2>Z ... F3 2>U You isolate BOTH motor and head connectors, unmounting the PCB. You don't put paper card under PCB disconnecting only the bottom connector.
  8. I have used this adapter with an external power adapter 2A@12V, 2A@5Vhttp://www.msfn.org/board/uploads//post-22...98480_thumb.jpg The problem you can have is that the power supply could have low voltage (11V) and low current. Disconnect all devices from the power supply and connect only the hdd.
  9. Ctrl+z Ctrl+v Ctrl+z Ctrl+\ Ctrl+z The arrow is the echo of "Ctrl+z", but you must receive F3 T> ok i did press these combinations after each other, without pressing enter between them because i am trying not to do anything by guessing unless clearly told to do so. but your solution as I understood it didnt really work, all i got is a bunch of strange characters on 1 line. I am sure you know the solution but maybe i am missing something, maybe i should press enter between each command? heres a picture to better understand. another memeber told me to do a ctrl+R then ctrl+c then ctrl+z to fix it, but all i got is more strange characters... I wish you can be as clear as possible in your description of the solution, your time is very appreciated. Thank you See your hyperterminal configuration. If Ctrl+z at 38400, 8, N, 1, None doesn't work try it at 9600, 8, N, 1 Sometimes the baudrate change. i used 9600, 8, N, 1,None and same result, just a line of strange characters. this small mistake i did at the last step has fried my nerves since yesterday. I entered the sequence as you said but nothing happens. i want to note that the button of \ is also the button of |, there both on the same key. just wanted to mention that. this echo thing i expected it to go away when i restart hyperterminal, i thought it would start fresh. oh man i wish i just typed that last step instead of trying to be smart and paste it. if this proves to be hard to solve, can i just simple enter the last command and get done with this? i mean from what i understand, EchoInterfaceCmds just echos back the commands you send, so this doesnt really change anything and i can just proceed to the last step, Right? Probably 9600 isn't the baudrate, I think you have to put 38400.If you see the second image, you see arrows. The arrow is the response of Ctrl+z with null modem. It is possible if: 1.- The hdd have echo at all baudrates. 2.- Your RX line are touching the TX line (some mobile schematics have this too, as MBUS on nokia). 3.- The hyperterminal has "echo" actived. Watch your wires.

  13. If you haven't a new COM or USB device you can have a problem.Check your USB ports, refresh device manager, etc There are fake cables and you can have one. You connect a Nokia phone, but it will use D+ and D- lines, not RX and TX. http://pinouts.ru/CellularPhones-Nokia/nok...op_pinout.shtml Good: http://pinouts.ru/CellularPhonesCables/nok...le_pinout.shtml Bad: http://pinouts.ru/CellularPhonesCables/nok...le_pinout.shtml
  14. It can be FT232 integrated circuit. http://www.ftdichip.com/Documents/DataSheets/ds232b18.pdf How many leads has the integrated circuit? What VEN_xxxx&PID_yyyy driver has it?
  15. Do you have multimeter? Can you see integrated circuit's number?
  16. I think the Siemens S65 data cable won't work, because it hasn't adapter board, only wires.Normally S65 cable is DCA-540 (it use D+ and D-, not RX and TX): http://pinouts.ru/CellularPhonesCables/sie...le_pinout.shtml
  17. you don't need an alimentation power to the othe side of the cable the usb provide the alimentation for the circuit board of the cable and is not necessary a power from sata, although you need the SATA power for the hard disc

  22. Have you unmounted the PCB? Yes I isolated PCB before powering on and remove the paper after Z. then U. Anyway it seems partially work even I didn't see the success message. I have redone the whole procedure again. Now BIOS is showing correct capacity. But shortly after windows starts, it gives me blue screen and reboot to a menu and let me choose to boot to repair mode, then windows did some test and says fixed, but next reboot still fails. I guess there may be some bad sectors causing windows not be able to load. I'm using seatools to check the disk now. Anyway I believe some data may be corrupted but some data should be accessible now. I'll get a sata cable to install to my computer to copy over data. At least this is a big step forward. Big thanks to all of you for all advice on this thread! I think paper method is a bad method (sometimes it has a lot of problems). Unmount the PCB, clean the contacts (motor and heads and PCB contacts too) and mount the PCB tightening the screws for make good contact.
  23. That's the point. Nor PuTTY, netterm, ponderosa, and other terminal softwares made ctrl-z work. In fact, I don't even know what ctrl-z does on hyperterminal, so I didn't know how to "start" on these programs. Ctrl+z on hyperterminal sends one byte to the serial port: 0x1A
