    Want to re-install WMP9/10?

    Maybe you dont like the current WMP you have an want to Downgrade but get the annoying message you have a newer version??

    Navigate to this key

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Setup\Installed Versions

    and change the values of the 3 subkeys to whats listed below (This makes it look like you have wmp9 and can then re-install 9/10 if you want to)

    "wmp.dll"=hex:00,00,09,00,a4,0b,00,00

    "wmploc.dll"=hex:00,00,09,00,a4,0b,00,00

    "wmplayer.exe"=hex:00,00,09,00,a4,0b,00,00

    Assistance with a program..

    I found this program last year,its a VOIP program and i have no idea how it uses the ports to connect!!

    When i check netstat,etc THERE IS NOTHING LISTED AS ACTIVE!! (Even when connected)

    I have LIVECBRADIO added to my list and when i connect to "LIVECBRADIO" there are others there also listening and talking .... THEY ALL DROP OFF!! (Time out) (Leaving me with LIVECBRADIO (And then i cant hear them anymore (The ones that drop off)))

    I think my computer is closing the connection to these other people because IT DOESNT SEE IT AS A VALID END POINT..... (Netstat sure doesnt) If i connect directly to another user that is connected to LIVECBRADIO,then they stay added with 'livecbradio'...... (Even though netstat still says there isnt a connection)

    Its very strange and interesting how this program connects WITHOUT SHOWING IN NETSTAT!!

    Can anyone figure this out?? (hehe) Or figure out a way to make all connections stay when connecting?? (On Win98/98se)

    Lets dedicate this thread to parts of the registry that can be deleted without any bad effects...... (Resulting in a slimmer registry)

    Ill start

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist

    There is no need to have all these keys in these subkeys under USERASSIST,first time i checked this area i had tons.... Now i only have 1 entry in each subkey (I keep checking and if more are added i just delete again)

    When you delete this key (USERASSIST) windows will recreate it within minutes but will only have 1 entry in each of the 2 subkeys.......... (Count)

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\checkbadapps

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\checkbadapps400

    This two areas are not needed either and can be removed (Thank you for confirming it CharlotteTheHarl...)

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\AppPatches

    This is only required if older program installers are run (They might not run right without these patches) .. If you run STAND ALONE EXEs though it shouldnt matter....
