I fixed the winamp crash during close, sometimes. I took it out and used winamp 5.5 lite portable. No install, no crash, found all radio stations I already had set up. I like this portable stuff, not using it, its not there!

On your website it has(No AHCI Only SATA Controllers Present) My boards have old 40 pin ide and sata so what does that mean? AHCI SATA protocol is incompatable with Windows 9x. Some newer Motherboards use AHCI.If they only support AHCI than my Patch cannot be used. Since your Computer has IDE Ports, I doubt that it would be new enough to only support AHCI Protocol. If your BIOS supports LEGACY or NATIVE Mode for the SATA Drives, the Patch will work. The board with legacy mode has set up sata 1 and 2 as primary ide master and slave and then the normal ide uses secondary master and slave. Win 98se loves it. Why cant all old bios do this? This 2nd board CAN NOT HAVE THE SATA TURNED ON IN BIOS AT ALL BECAUSE IF I DO WINDOWS LOCKS UP DURING BOOT. So how could I put in your patch for sata? The net talked about the sata set up as raid and then windows 98 would like, but that looks like its for HD only not CD/DVD and still locks up sys during boot?

I doubt that you will find a BIOS update for SATA. Few BIOSes support Legacy Mode SATA.I have a Patch for Windows 98 that supports the Native Mode SATA most BIOSes do support. How can I get that patch?

Foxconn bios not like MSI 848P NEO2-V bios, sata can not be made to look 100% like ide. This board can not use sata dvd with windows 98se. ANYONE HAVE A BIOS UPDATE TO USE SATA? Website has 4A3F1P31 bios board says 6.00PG bios??? Foxconn does not fit 1st hp case, have it in XT858 case for now.

Now with this system with a MSI 848P NEO2-V in the biggest heavy 7 slot case, I have a Foxconn 648FX7MF-S and all its parts on the way to put into the smallest 4 slot case ? With out all that room and fans maybe cooling will be a problem? ANY 4 SLOT CASES AS DIFFERENT AS THE HUGE DELL 7 SLOT CASE IS? SOME ONE MUST KNOW ABOUT A SUPER 4 SLOT CASE? EDIT Lot of work to change the Dell XPS 720 from a BTX to a ATX case. Found on net several ways to do but I wanted to keep large red bezel on back of case so I made more work for myself. EDIT Parts for foxconn here, will put in a HP 8665 case for now.

Thanks! Things I really like about my 98se system, speed, 14 sec up, 4 sec off, Backup easy to fit on a cd/dvd,( win7 thin PC over 3gb size other 7 or 8 do not fit on DVD), games, heck I found I even have a program to edit and make dig movies on 98se.

Did a short cut to that file on my sys screen and it pops up with no install, It runs with no install and goes away when you shut it down. They call that a portable program dont they? Or is it mobile?

I am using k-meleon. Never used it before. Its portable, does not show up as installed? I used a shortcut on screen to fire it up? Can it be installed? Different skins?

System is stable except for winamp that can crash on exit? Anyone have that problem, or a fix? I use SYMANTEC ghost win pe to back up system to a DVD. System only uses 1gb on hard drive so backup to dvd fast but dvd to hard drive is a flash. This way I can try out anything and if a bad crash, system back in 60sec. Looking at a change of CASE to a DELL XPS 720 case with a lian mother board tray to convert case from BTX to ATX. I like to mess with hard ware but soft ware can drive me nuts.

The small desk where the router, VIZIO XWR100, is has all the systems that plug into the router. Basement has large desk so all super large systems like my 98SE system need wireless. I tried the AirLink AWLH3025 which says it can do WPA. It does with TKIP not AES codeing? ALL THE OTHER SYSTEMS ARE SET ALREADY FOR AES, so any newer driver that will do AES for the AirLink? Any wireless card that does AES on win 98se? If not I will have to do WEP not WPA that works fine on the AirLink. WPA is 802.11g/n TKIP OR AES NO AUTO SWITCH WEP is 802.11b Only other item the VIZIO will do is WPA2, 802.11a/n, and that can do TKIP or AES with auto switch. WIN 98se on WPA2, any card or driver? FOUND A CARD ON THE WAY, WILL POST.

Found a driver, Edimax EW-7128g, that works only with WEP 64 bits 802.11b. Can not get WPA 802.11g/n to work. This is all software stuff for which I know? If I leave the LAN cable out then WEP wireless works and if LAN cable in then LAN works, needs a restart in between. I am still lost but have some wireless?

I installed wireless card in my 98se system, it is a RT2561ST IC on the board. Software driver that came with it only went back to win 2000 even though the box said win 98? It took days to find a driver which left a button lower right on the screen. Click that button and I can see it can talk to the VIZIO router just fine and can see 2 out of 3 modes the router has, WPA and WEP , but not the WPA2. If I unplug the lan and disable it in bios I wanted the system to see and work with the wireless but it does not? How can I get this to work? What can I do? I want it to be like XP which would ask for a password to the router and them it works.

This motherboard can have 2GB ram, I only have 1GB in it. I can find where it says 98SE can do that with no changes and another says need to change a file and another says 2 files. Can someone help, does anything need to change? As I find the 98se software I install it. 602 Pro PC Suite 2000, a MS office replacement. WinDVD 4 which played movie RED full screen fine. Img Burn, Foxit, Ccleaner, Cpuz, Winamp, Speedfan. I still have many piles of stuff to look thru yet.

Something different on this mother board, you can turn off the lan chip just like other bios, but on this one you can turn off just the bios software for the lan chip? It was off and windows did not care, lan worked, but the linux I also have on system could not use the lan at all, no internet. A learn as I go. The icon I have on this fourm is the 98se system I have.

I have palemoon on win 98se and browser linux 501 on system as 2nd choice. The linux lets me place any downloads in the 98se section. The home screen for the linux allows your search to be put into 15 different search engines. SPEED, PALEMOON 10 MEG BITS PER SEC, BROWSER LINUX 35 MEG BITS PER SEC. Still would like a software person to make something like KERNELEX but for linux, (linuxex) that would allow Linux browsers to be added to 98se. A extra, the linux 1st stores in a ram drive, I need to move what I want to the win hard drive. All else goes away when system turned off. I am not a software person but dont that mean if a virus gets into the ram drive, at shut down its gone?

Just put together a new 98se system from parts I have. Case, a large Game case MB, MSI 848P NE02V, early 775 type cpu, SL8J7 3.8ghz, 1gb ram Video card, Geforce 4 Ti 4200 8x agp Software, win plus 98SE, has a plus package? no updates yet. (W32) Problems so far Overheat, 115w cpu can shut down, need way better heat sink. Start button, all the sub screens jerk up unless WinAmp is playing a radio station then all is smooth with the start screens???? Installed IE6, said restart system, I did, no IE6? Cant find IE6? Rerun install, says no, restart system? Cant get rid of McAfee VShield, it came with the + package. Thought gone but still on display properties page. Crash for not enough memory??? Back when win 98 and puppy linux were new someone had puppy as a icon on win 98 screen. Click the icon and thru ms dos puppy ran. When you left puppy it went back to 98. Now there is Browser Linux 501 which is only a browser, firefox 5, and all it needs to watch movies, up and down load, play music, get at all drives, dvd, HD, floppy, and look all over the net, it has. I do not know software but on puppy forum I would like someone add what it takes to get browser linux as a icon on win 98. This to me would be like kernal ex add on to run xp stuff, this would run a linux browser. I have 98se on my etower 633id with kernal ex and know how that runs. I did a boot of browser linux to see how it runs. Way faster, better browser, so I would like to have it as a icon on 98 I just tried palemoon, it works fine so far, thanks for info.

If I cant find that browser then what is the best to use? I have 2 systems with 9x in them, one has a P2 micro at 450MHZ and the other has a P3 micro at 1.4GHZ. The browser is the bad thing on both. Ebay is the crash site for both these systems. Parts of ebay are missing when I first go there and then with use more goes away. I have tried IE6, firefox 2 and 3, and opera. So because I am starting a new 9X system with a micro at 3.8GHZ I really would like a good browser. I have tried many of the others listed on the net but can not get them to work or work any better. If I cant get a good browser then maybe I will have a dual boot system, 9X for all but the net and a Linux, xPUD, for just the net. To bad no software to put a Linux browser on 9X? xPUD called from 9X? I like 9X for the 100s or is it 1000s of games, and to keep a old system working well. I am 66.

On ebay are many MSI 848P-NE02V boards, you can get new from china 1 or 10 or 100. They use the early intel 775 CPU up to 3.8 GHZ speed and I found 98SE drivers. Can 98SE run that fast? Because they have 98SE drivers I hope the bios can turn off what it cant use?

Maybe a year or two ago I started up my 9x systems again to up date them. When I went looking for a browser I got the usual, which firefox, opera, ect. I kept looking and found a new browser which had versions for 98 thru 7. They were only a short trial and then you had to buy them. After the trial was over I took it off the system and now I cant find them, I am 66 and can forget much. I maybe think, you bought it over seas, maybe INDIA, but not the current one which is in the INDIAN language. ANYONE KNOW ABOUT THIS?? I have many many parts around that have 98SE drivers and would like to put a system together and buy the browser I cant find. One mother board can use a INTEL early 775 chip, the SL8J7 which runs at 3.8 gig, which I have. HELP!!
