[tool] addons2wpi converter
HowdyDoody replied to Nuno Brito's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
Hi! I'm baaaaaack. I opened up one of these CAB files to find that it has a bunch of programs in it. I can see why it didn't work. I have now bypassed addons2WPI and started dealing with WPI directly. I tried a few programs. Some of them would not save, and the others would not do a silent install. I guess I'm going to have to do further research. Arnie -

I tried Rapidshare. It didn't change the size. I guess because the file is already compressed. I do have a file splitter around here somewhere, but I have a lot of work to get caught up. I'll see if I can deal with it tomorrow. Thanks. Arnie -

I've been thinking a little more about this. Am I supposed to put the CAB files in the install folder? Arnie It's telling me the upload failed. The file is too large. 507KB is as small as I have. -

I don't understand what you are asking for. I have a lot of stuff. Are you talking about one of the CAB files? Arnie -

Folks, I am totally lost! I created a bunch of .CAB files for nLite. I guess they are useless. I used addons2WPI, as I thought I was supposed to. They showed up in WPI and I ran WPI, but they all failed. I deleted the WPI folder and then created it again. I followed the instructions without using addons2WPI. I got down to step 4 (Then click on any other section of the Config area to activate the rest of the wizard.).........nothing happened. Please tell me where to go from here. Thanks, Arnie -
I'm running SP2 without a problem.

I have a similar problem with my registration number. I left something out of my CD, so I rebuilt it and tried to do an upgrade. The upgrade asked for my key, and then wouldn't accept it. I had to completely reinstall.

I found something here that might be easier to understand: http://www.ss64.com/ntsyntax/services.html

Is there a list of the "services" and an explanation of what they are for? I could reduce the size of my installation quite considerably. Thanks, Arnold

I've pretty well got the the installation the way I want it, but I would like to eliminate the "services" that I don't need so I can get the installation smaller. Is there a list anywhere to guide me? Thanks, Arnold

The culprit was Kerberos! It really should indicated in the program that this must be included fir dialup. I am starting with a clean source each time. That's why it takes so long to do a setup. I tried VisualBox to test the installation, but it is just too slow. I wonder if VMware is any faster. Now I'm gonna go back and see if I can reduce the size of the installation. It's 349 megs now. Thanks to all of you guys that helped me through it. Thanks again, Arnold

I put everything that pertains to networking, including Kerberos, and ran it on virtualBox. It worked! Now I'm gonna start removing a few of the items at one time and reinstall it. I'll start with Kerberos. I feel like that's the bugger. I'll let you know. Thanks, Arnold

Nada! I made the: Remote access auto connection manager and the Remote access connection manager, automatic. Still nothing. The modem is installed. I don't remember seeing this Kerberos key, so I'm sure I didn't remove it. I'll go back and check. I did an install from the original with SP2 integrated, and it worked just fine. Thanks, Arnold

OK. I hope you can help. I have been working on this all day. I have everything else working like I want it, so I don't want to take a chance of messing it up. Thanks Last_Session.ini

I mentioned this in another topic, but I don't think anyone noticed it. When I installed XP and tried to create an internet connection, when I got to the dialup section, the entries where grayed out. Does anyone know what I did wrong when I created the installation disk? Thanks, Arnold
-
Well, I should have said "VirtualBox". I got everything to work like I want it, except for the Network Connection for dialup. I don't know what governs that.

I did an "oops".

I created a VirtualPC on my Primary Slave. Now what do I do?

I have used the nLite format, but when it got through, the disk still had (on the left side of the screen) showing the $OEM$ and the I386. It didn't show anything on the CD, but I just didn't trust it. I don't remember all of the problems. I installed SP3 when it was released. I do remember my computer really slowing down and a lot of the programs didn't work. I have Zone Alarm Security Suite taking real good care of me. You mean I don't have to create the ISO? Just go straight to CD? I have gone from bad to worse. Now when it says "starting Windows" I get the blue screen saying: "a problem has been detected". I'm sure you've seen that. I'll try again. Thanks again, Arnold

Looks like I have to start all over again.

I'm running WindowsXP Pro Corporate edition. I tried upgrading to SP3, but I had major problems with it. I googled, and found that many people were having the same problems, so I opted to stay with SP2. I do reformat the CDs. It's really a bummer. When I use another program to burn the ISO, it does reformat. I don't know how to use VirtualPC, and I'm afraid of messing up my current installation of Windows. I think you have hit on the problem. I am not using a fresh source. I'll give it a try and get back to you. Thanks, Arnold

I keep getting this error when I try to install windows. I have rebuilt the ISO about 6 times. I have created the installation CD about 10 times. I had to use new CDs everytime because the burner does not seem to overwrite the original CD. I have uploaded my INI file. Of course, this occurs when I try to install WindowsXP SP2. Please help, Thank you Last_Session.ini

Welllllllll. That's what happens when you get old. I'm blind in one eye and can't see out of the other. That's what happens when you get old. I don't understand how I kept missing it. Thanks so much

How do I eliminate Accessibility Options in nLite? I don't need it and I don't want it. I can't find where to disable it. Thanks
