I have the same error not only after boot but also when i call the native start menu. (cortona) i also uninstalled ShellExperienceHost this give similar error and ruin the startmenu and notifications windows... so i managed to restore the system app "ShellExperienceHost" by just copying it's folder back to (C:\Windows\SystemApps\ShellExperienceHost_cw5n1h2txyewy) from an image backup and native start menu plus notification windows are now working... Noel did you uninstalled C:\Windows\SystemApps\ShellExperienceHost and still have native startmenu working ?

About a week have same problem but after update 1 of Windows 8.1 and updating firmware of my SSD SP Velox V30. After some time when PC is idle or seeing videos my SSD disables and all freezes only mouse and keyboard works and opened windows. If wait about 2 min i got a BSOD "CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED" or "KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR" whithout dump.Read and looking for reasons but i find ... 1st i think that problem in TRIM of my SSD. But all tests of my SSD even make full surface test - no errors. Run TRIM manually - all works perfectly. Thanks guys for the advice the bug was generated by intel sata controller driver ... it's corrected now, will test and see hope it's okay now... i was really thinking to downgrade to seven. even putted back my win 7 on an other partition lol... The bug : The system freeze completely after some random time, and i have to force power off, only mouse still work and some opened apps but nothing else, explorer get frozen, it's like i removed my SSD while the system is working or some thing similar, i managed to kill aerohose.exe and dwm.exe (kill aerohose + kill & auto re run dwm) but did not change nothing to the freeze had to force power off The first time the system froze i get my partition table erased !!!!!!!!!! @bigmuscle thanks for the gui version look pretty cool i appreciate real time change note : you are right to wait for update to be released (waste of time) .... it's funny how people talk about updates lol ... All MS product are alpha product and i talk about final release... in a perfect world you will never see a blue screen, many thing are managed poorly in that system, but as it's world wide used we are some how sucked on that system if we want to get all features... (i already use unix + win )... i am on 8.1 ... before i was pushing update on demand and now since win 7sp1 to be honest i disabled completely updates, it's just full of s... even official updates... when you see update from MS editing Web Certificate on firefox it's scary then i secure my network/win the best way available and boos*** ms updates i only work with big updates like sp or new release and i have to check all my security stuff after updates because the NSA/MS don't care about security or about your privacy... and i am even not talking about unofficial updates available here and there and where you don't have idea what's on. Plus MS always release things and abandoned it like longhorn or vista service pack (rebaptised win 7)... then i think next big win 8 update will be win 9 and that 8.1.1 would be may be for those who will stay stuck on win 8 may be thay will just abandon it for win 9 any way....

may be too late but... this application is not working on 8.1... your issue is "explorer is not loading" just hit "ctrl+shift+escape" to get taskmanager or "ctrl+alt+del" and then taskmanager run this new task "c:\windows\explorer.exe" or "explorer" everything should load then disable the win7 explorer with the installer

On my PC, without fast startup (which doesn't properly shutdown the system, writes at least half of your RAM to disk every shutdown and can cause all kinds of weird issues), an equally setup win8.1 installation has the same boot time as win7. Comparing fresh installations, win7 is leading by a couple of seconds, especially because shutting down via win+x didn't enter fast mode but fully shut down the system (fixed in latest rollup update, optional)As for stability... on win7 I have GPU driver crashes. On win8.1 I'm having sporadical "reference_by_pointer" crashes. Can't say which is more annoying. In my laptop win 8.1 is faster... but thank for sharing the infos.. any way win 7 or 8 or 9 still same beta microsoft products...

Bug is not solved... after reboot, second task bar provided by "Actual Tools" still blinking when moving desktop icons... will try to see why it stopped when i upgraded to 1.6 before reboot...

check if you have that file c:\windows\dwmglass.dll check if the reg value "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\AppInit_DLLs" is set to something... check on taskmanager if you have any aerohost.exe I found dwmglass.dll in c:windows and i found the reg value DWMGlass.dll, in the taskmanager i dont have process aerohost.exe i have stopped now any processes with agtweaker thx for helping AGTweaker.exe is depreciated you should not use it at all To clean your system just remove DWMGlass.dll from reg value AppInit_DLLs Delete C:\AeroGlass Folder Delete C:\Windows\AeroGlass.dll + dbghelp.dll + symsrv.dll + symsrv.yes if any ... reboot and you are done if you want to put back Aeroglass, use installer, other way are depreciated Installer will add sheduled task for aerohost.exe and aerohost.exe will do the magic Thats it

Have the feature with startisback but as i use many screens other tasks bar provided by third party application are still picking color from ColorizationColor it's why i think it will be nice to just inject other color value to dwm by bypassing ColorizationColor value for frame function... Jesus christ I wish W8 was more like linux or android. hahahahaha that's it ^^ all my xdows are so custom they don't look like original at all... but to be honest, win 8.1 is a pain in the a**, too many thing to tweak/hack the only benefit of that system is that's a light one and fast comparing to other versions but we got a lot to do, to make it good and clean comparing to Win 7... AeroGlass/Theme/Disabling Backdoor/Shell/Manual Update... etc. etc... it's like starting from scratch... we could say the same for linux when tweaking, but every thing is intended to be tweaked in linux, it's some how more easy... i was thinking to abandon windows completely when started migrating from 7 to 8... and if you think again about it we don't really have a real alternative to windows, every appliance is done first to be working on windows before linux, it's why i take about a month to setup a win system exactly as i want and keep linux for my servers purpose and as second system... regarding android i don't even think a second about windows mobile lol... may be old windows phone was looking nice but now baaaaa I love using win 8 because i think crosoft did a good job in cleaning their system to roll back the "big resources eater" systems introduced since vista but don't think they done it to make the system better, it's just to let it run under tablets, even if it's a plus for us PC Users they did not think to us when they make the system cleaner it's all about money, with today technology we could come with an amazing never seen system but every one is still developing crap based on past mistakes, always adding layers on top of old bad layers... something have to be done from scratch with an engineer intelligent base, that include every important thing at it base, like security, optimum usage of resources etc. when we think about it we are still using sixties system, it's just patched and layered nothing new... this last 10 years hacking, 0 days exploit, etc is growing like never seen. but all this is make in purpose because big brother is watching us and because we live in a consumer society where the money is the rule... i think we are wrong, because efficient system will make more profit especially today but i have hope in current technology, when you see for example company like samsung they are pushing other to go further with most top technology without keeping best tech for future like other company do, i could also put google as an example, but they do more bad than good even if they look for top advanced services... starting from an angel more google grow more they are become an evil, i still remember many years ago when started using google, when it was not known, it was like WAW any thing is there lol i was sure they will be first sooner... but today i think we have to think network in different side, security is too important, tomorrow we will need it for sure... switched to duckduckgo 1 month ago lol things are changing hope it will go the good way, and am excited to see what it will be ^^ any way want to talk a bit lol hahaha sorry long message

Issue solved completely... Can not really say from where it was coming... Permission was fine but i deleted and created the Aeroglass folder... - fist tried with c:\aaa not working - tried with c:\aa worked (yes it's weird) but that time it downloaded symbols - i remember i disabled my proxy 10 min ago in ie (proxy need authentication...) - Putted back every thing to C:\aeroglass... it did not work first time but now it's fine... i think the problem was related to my proxy authentication and or symbols... Any way it's working Thanks

Hi, Thanks for the answer i found a somehow solution - Copied : "dbghelp.dll + DWMGlass.dll + symsrv.dll + symsrv.yes + license.key + aerohost.exe" To : "C:\Windows"- Added a task to "C:\Windows\aerohost.exe"- Started the task and bingo every thing is okay and all keys are loaded... Still can not load the task if it's located to C:\AeroGlass\... Will post dump later files are about 300 megs Thanks

Thanks for the info will edit my question... where i indicated that i prefer AppInit_DLLs I know that "AppInit_DLLs" inject dll in every process, i did not think about it... thought DWMGlass.dll have to be injected on all process and i forget that it's DWM.exe that manage all windows frames... somehow dwm.exe inject dwmglass on all windows any way thanks
