  1. hey thieske! here's an idea once we get this working *100%* we could theoretically clean up what we've said and turn this topic into a guide? Whattya think?
  2. N here's the autoexec that goes with it AUTOEXEC.BAT AUTOEXEC.BAT
  3. k its working, sortof those guys who made that network disk did an ok job, cept for the fact that you have to re-enter the network details each time, but one importan thing they should do is change the ramdrive stuff to pick a free letter from Z back heh had to format as fat32 because that smart script kept assigning the ramdrive as C: lol now the ramdrive sits on D: (also stupid) so anyway it helps... So, unattend.bat startsup and starts copying files.....copies a few (see a few names go by) and then it just stops/hangs there any ideas?? hope it doesnt have to be fat16 now or does it lol the other possibility is i've reconfigured my common/program files dirs to default to D:\ and thats where the ramdrive is anyone know how to change the %RAMDRV% variable in this batchfile/s so that it goes backwards when selecting a Drive Letter? (I need it to be on X or U or something far away like that heh) SETRAMD.BAT SETRAMD.BAT
  4. Sounds good! I guess i'll have to give it a try now eh this looks pretty interesting too: http://www.tdonline.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3 I was thinking about doing that one of these days... Using just a dos autoexec.bat menu and having more drivers supported. But what about that reboot problem you were having?
  5. Sup! Sure! why not? be nice to know exactly how much memory. Actually had a problem with memory already trying to get mapdrive.cmd to run as part of the batch before the install and emeds mentioned this: File config.sys shell=C:\cmd.com /P /E:nnnhttp://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=18087&st=0 but i'll tell you now that 8192 is too much it seems as NET.EXE almost fails (can't remember exactly what it said/did but i still had connectivity) I set it for 2048 and no errors now it'd be nice to know exactly what to set it at, maybe that would help? k i saw that this guy used emm386 also;http://www.svrops.com/svrops/documents/xpu...end.htm#netboot (i think emm386 has some switches too, anyone know what they are?) but even when i modified his disk to use the intel pro/100 drivers (E100B.DOS ) (latest from intel) I have both old and new sets of these drivers and neither of them worked on the other guys disk)...(old one didnt work with ghost tho -reason for my downloading the newer ones)...maybe because the latest ones are NDIS2? I'm not sure. You wouldnt just happen to be using the same drivers would ya? hehe So seeing as the ghost disk works properly i'd think it was best to stick to that so.. Tried copying over the the emm386 from the svrops dude's disk it would not load via the ghost disk. Now i have alot of DOS disks upto MS-PC Dos 6.22 but I'm pretty sure i do not have PC-DOS 6.22 the PC Dos that ghost uses. Maybe you could email me the emm386 version your using. if the ghost one with the emm386 works perfectly then I'd rather not try to mess with a 3rd disk unless i have no choice but to have to. k well I really do not see why that would be necessary if the setup can format the drive itself with diskpart if you wanted it to, so i would need more clarification on that before i would consider doing so. I noticed smartdrv was on srvops dude's disk, but does anyone know if its absolutely (definately) needed? Ok maybe you could post/email your boot disk? And executing without reboots, hmmmm, please tell me there arent going to be anymore issues to deal with! Is winnt.exe rebooting before it finishes installing everything? Or are you just trying to implement/install/set everything before it reboots? Your scaring me man! lol
  6. ok! we're one a little closer now thnx It gets upto the blue install screen saying: "An Internal Setup Error has occurred." "Could not find a place for a swap file" "Setup cannot continue...blahblah" Well, That's never happened to me before. Even if the drives are unformatted and in this case there are 5 partitions on the drive (all formated ntfs and only two of which have active pagefiles 1 soon to be blown away by this unattended install) and enough space is available on all drives (excluding the floppy) including the mounted one (with correct permissions of course). anyone?
  7. doh! n/m just stuck it 2nd in the list. REG ADD %KEY%\001 /VE /D "Turning system restore off" /fREG ADD %KEY%\001 /V 1 /D "REGEDIT /S Z:\SCRIPTS\sysresoff.reg" /f REG ADD %KEY%\002 /VE /D "Modifying Drives Letters" /fREG ADD %KEY%\002 /V 1 /D "Z:\SCRIPTS\MapDrive.cmd" /f REG ADD %KEY%\003 /VE /D "Setting Personal & Settings Folders Redirects" /fREG ADD %KEY%\003 /V 1 /D "REGEDIT /S Z:\SCRIPTS\Redirect.inf" /fthat should do it eh but i'm still stuck on this tho http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=ST...t=0#entry124886
  8. k not getting any environment errors, (although 8192 might be a little high; and it stopped NET.exe from from doing something, I still got in.) but still getting syntax erros and bad command or filename (repeated about 20-30 times) just tried running diskpart says it cannot be run under dos so i guess its the runonceex method eh question about that then, Won't I need it to run before the os even gets installed so that my folder redirections will work? http://groups.msn.com/MicrosoftWindowsXPRe...464671898804519 http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/expertz...2/honeycutt.asp or is the 12/13minute mark going to be ok for that? (runonceex launched from/in commandlines.txt) or is it going to have to be put someplace sooner?
  9. lol Hilarious but of course i did not know that I'll give it a try after another quick mod mdes metioned to get mapdrive.cmd to work also I'll report back shortly
  10. Thanks eh! saw that on one of my anicent config.sys's, was wondering what that was lol question: is that ram or cache and how far could you go with say: 256K cache=? 512K cache=? 256Meg Ram=? 1024Meg Ram=? Didn't know it could be run that late in the game eh. Awesome (but before anything else of course)
  11. I've tried running this on a Ghost 8 PC-dos boot disk (floppy) to boot to a lan mount of the Install/Windist dir, it no worky fo me I get this spew about "Out of environment space" "Bad command or filename" can someone explain how to run this mapdrive.cmd on an unattended install (obviously prior to install so my D and E are in the right place) I'm trying to accomplish this on a dual boot (xp/2K) machine (2 C:'s (each hidden from each other), 2 D:'s, and 1 E:)
  12. also one more note/related request: I'm sure i'm not the only person interested in doing this, so also interested to know if anyone could point us in the right direction to make the above into a bootable cd? (just the booting and running mapdrive and unnattend.bat to initiate the install)
  13. Followed all the instructions on the Unattended Install guide: http://unattended.msfn.org/ And that's all good but I'm trying to do an unattended via a Ghost (v.8) "Drive Mapping" Boot disk as suggested by: http://www.svrops.com/svrops/documents/xpunattend.htm and I'll tell you...his boot disk doesnt work and neither does the Ghost Disk allow me to clarify... I can mount the folder (with the ghost disk only) no problem... (access everything no problem) but if i try to run the unattend.bat its says it can't be run in dos I've set the MsDosInitiated="0" flag to 1 still nothing also was trying to run mapdrive.cmd just prior to unattend.bat http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...8+CS+Unattended (trying to make it part of the same batch) and i get a bunch of "Out of environment space/Syntax error/Bad command or filename" stuff maybe i should have called this topic "Unattended Floppy Disk" but seeing as theres no topic for unattended lan and that's what this is about really...might as well be here (And i'm not too interested in getting into WinPE just yet..because i've spent over a week on all this already) I'm in a real hurry to finish this up so i can finally test everything (and has to be unattended by lan) so i can get my dad's box back to him lol So i hope someone can answer this one Please
  14. Can't seem to find any topics dedicated to this so...
  15. your answering your own questions as well as others, ok i get it Argh do you think everyone who steps into this forum is a coder or something? try reading my post over again maybe then you'll understand? And not everyone has all day to go digging through cabs Where is this file yoour talking about and how does it get called into the Unattended Install? Please I'm trying to get this thing finished already not do it 10 different ways Emm N/M Lack of sleep? either that or you were editing guess i'll look into it later
  16. "Yeah Uhm". I don't know how you got those fitty stars on your arshe because you misinterpreted what my reply was about yourself. You may have a point but doesnt mean that people don't get the jist of what your talking about. I was merely answering YOUR question, and at the same time enlightening anyone else who may NOT know. Oh well i suppose there always has to be a smartass somewhere eh. Anyway, I do appreciate the enlightenment Now please do tell where ARE the [setupParams] in an "Unattended" Install?
  17. http://gosh.msfnhosting.com/using_runonceex.htm : "During setup the RunOnceEx key is only processed at the 13 min mark because of Outlook Express. The RunOnceEx key is run before cmdlines.txt is run. So if you use cmdlines.txt or svcpack.inf to import the runonceex settings they won't run until first logon." http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/timeline.htm : 6. svcpack.inf executes at T-13 minute stage 7. cmdlines.txt executes at T-12 minute stage 8. [setupParams] executes from winnt.sif at T-9 minute stage 9. Saves Settings 10. Deletes temporary files then reboots... » First Logon 1. Windows XP logs you in and loads personal settings 2. Both [GuiRunOnce] from winnt.sif and RunOnceEx executes at the same time 3. Desktop and Taskbar loads. Speaking of which...Aaron I believe your extremely helpfull great looking guide has us putting RunOnceEx into cmdlines.txt thats what i've done (soon to be run) But...I think i saw mention elsewhere in the forum that RunOnceEx could also be run from [GUIUnnattended](Unnattended.inf/Winint.inf) also? So I wonder how RunOnceEx beats out cmdlines.txt
  18. Aaron you rule!, amazingly fast response Thanks again! btw.. for reference for everyone... (for those who may also add display configs to their unattendes) how many entries (lines of display output) could you say fit into the RunOnceEx dialog at the default display setting? Estimates will do. (And what is the default these days looks like 800x600 at least) if anyone knows the rest feel free to add: @ 640x480 @ 800x600 @ 1024x768 @ 1280x720 @ etc. still finalising my beta 1 (lan unnattended for now) heh
  19. muchos gracias senior! really appreciate the help and just so its clear... It will still run everything in RunOnceEx2 and finish/exit normally?
  20. Thnx Aaron What exactly do you mean by kind of? And I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that (retired entry that never executes?) either. I Can't test it under 2K (setting up XP unattended) so the .cmd's only return errors. speaking of which this may be slightly unrelated to the topic but I hope setting this up under 2K (when running installshield -R setups, etc) the output will stil work? btw awesome work on the Unattended Install Howto http://unattended.msfn.org/index.htm (for those that don't know)
  21. Hmmm wondering if there is any possibiliy in having multiple RegOnceEx's like for example RegOnceEx01.cmd finishes and goes to RegOnceEX02 and 03 an so on until all the work is done, without rebooting? (retaining the nice simple processing window) any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated (45 lines of output and growing)
  22. RE: at the end of the batch file.....call..... rundll32.exe iernonce.dll,RunOnceExProcess Q: would that not reload the same batch? And i'm sure i'm not the only person around here itching to hear more about the variable stuff anyone? and i dunno but maybe it could be a good idea to restart this thread anew? I doubt too many ppl are going to want to sift thru the german expressions hehe
  23. Anyone seen this type of installer? Conexant Universal Device Install/Uninstall Application (Blah.EXE) any idea what the switches (if any?) might be?
  24. Norton Internet Security 2004 anyone?
