  1. I don't need much more of a story than "Here's your gun, shoot the bad thingies..."
  2. I fail to understand why desktop features would be included in a server operating system. That's just additional cost overhead that 99.99999% of us don't want/need in our server OSes. Personally, I never saw the reason for people to run Server 2003 as a desktop OS. I could understand some perceived benefit since it has a newer kernel than XP SP2. But Server 2008 and Vista SP1 have the same kernel. Yes, some things are tuned a bit differently, but they're more geared towards making server-based applications work faster. If you want the desktop features, buy the desktop OS. Just my 2 cents. I agree... I was checking out a few other forums and so forth and someone was complaining and stating how 2008 "sucks" because their favorite game would not install/run on it. If you need Desktop OS features, why run a Server OS? Just because it is the latest and greatest?
  3. Has anyone tried clustering virtual servers using either VMWare or Virtual PC? I would imagine it was possible. If so, how did you set up a Quorum resource without using Local Quorum? MSDTC running ok? Thanks!
  4. As far as I know, you have to re-install. The bits are different so a product key will not work across version. If you have an Ultimate CD and try to use a Home key, it will spit out an invalid key error.
  5. I use this with my modem (no it is not a USR, but it still works) http://www.usr.com/bvrp/bvrp.asp Free.
  6. I have a couple questions on a SQL cluster I am building and was wondering if there were any SQL Clustering guru's out there. I have a question about Active/Active install. Thanks!
  7. Mr Snrub, Thanks for the detailed information! I think I will definately do it this weekend. Any idea's if Sim City 4 has issues with 64bit? That is about the only game my g/f plays other than WoW, so I want to make sure it works for her. Thanks!
  8. I have been ising Filezilla forever and a day now. I love it and best of all, open source so it si free! Server and Client applications available.
  9. Also check your Task Scheduler, I found it there in Vista.
  10. I'll be working on mine this weekend! Would you suggest making sure I have all my drivers ready before install? I have multiple hard drives, so no worries on that end, but other than your web cam, you run into anything else? Thanks!
  11. Thanks for the replies. I think I am going to take the plunge and try out the 64 bit and see how it is, however, I think I may try the Dual Boot option if it is possible. Guess I'll see... B)
  12. I have been searching for a bit now with little to no success so I thought I would ask the community... I am in need of setting up ISA Server EE 2006 and was wondering if anyone has a Security Best Practices for Operaions Manager 2007 (formerly SCOM)? I am trying to use this so I can allow users access to the web console across domains. Thanks!
  13. Ok all, I did some searching and have not found anything specific to this, but I have not take the plunge to 64 bit OS in any fashion for home use and was hoping for some help. I just built me a new rig (Core 2 Duo Quad Core CPU, 4GB RAM, nForce 8600 GT 512MB x2, SATA DVD Burner, Seagate 500GB SATA HDD x2) running Vista Ultimate 32 bit currently. Now, I am a gamer (mostly play WoW, Neverwinter Nights 2, FEAR and a few other games) so I was wondering how well games overall work with 64 bit. I know that most all my productivity applications work well on 64. Big question, will I really see a diff? I use 64 OS's on my servers here, but they are work horses (4 dual cores, 16-64GB RAM and Local/SAN storage out the wazoo) and know it's great, but I never looked at it from a home perspective. What are some of the pitfalls that I might run into trying out a 64 bit OS? Thanks!
  14. Good luck. as i have spent weeks trying to get roles and features to install via an unattend XML and not yet sucedded. Luckily, I have access to the products team and will be working with them
  15. I will be working on this tonight when I get home. I have the RTM bits but want to build an unattended bootable DVD. I'll doc it and share what I find. ~T
  16. Hey all! Just wanted to say Hi and see what's up. I have actually been a long time guest here and finally created an account. Figured I could participate in some way. Just a little about me: I live in the Seattle are and I work for the Redmond giant (yes, I mean Microsoft). I work in the AdPlatform group (group that does all of MS/MSN online advertising) so I don't have inside information on stuff software developmetn or anything of that nature... All in all, it's great to see a group like this and I hope I can start participating and help some! Please understand that I will help as much as I can, but any information that is not publicaly available, I won't disclose. Thanks all!
