  1. Hi, I'm looking for a portable 12.1" laptop and I saw a nice HP laptop at Costco with a touch screen for 1000$. The specs are nice: 3GB ram, 250GB@5400 HDD, LightScribe DVDRW and ATI 3200HD with 64MB on board (with available 1400 shared memory support). The only downside is the CPU, it has a AMD Turion™ X2 RM-70 dual-core mobile processor 2 GHz with 1MB L2 cache processor (and that's probably the reason for the low price tag). It runs Win Vista premium. The main purpose of this laptop will be email, office, web and some Visual Studio development. Will this CPU be enough? Can it run 64 bit windows? What Intel CPU is comparable to this one? Thanks.
  2. Well, I've found some solution. Since the smtp server could not relay my request (it works only from the office) I couldn't change the settings. I've deleted the account and re-created it with a different name. Problem solved.
  3. I managed to erase an external HDD myself not long ago, and I've used GetDataBack to restore the files. I managed to restore almost everything (you need another HDD to restore the files to, you cannot restore files to the deleted HDD). This is not a free program, but you can download a trial version here: http://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm
  4. Hi, I have a few accounts configured in my Outlook 2007. One of my account can receive emails but cannot send any (unless I'm in my office network). A few days ago I got an email in this account and the sender asked a read confirmation and I clicked OK by mistake. Now here's the problem: outlook tries to send the read receipt through the "read-only" account and can't since the SMTP server does not accept any outgoing emails. The thing is that there is no email in the outbox mail so there is no way for me to delete this receipt. As a result I keep getting annoying errors messages when running outlook. Does anybody know where is this message hiding? TIA.
  5. Well, the Ultimate is way too pricey for me, and features like IIS7 (and they probably have MSMQ etc.) are more important for me than the media center and the premium version of solitare...
  6. Actually, IIS7 is important for me. Thanks.
  7. Hi, So I'm comparing the Vista Premium and Business editions, and frankly it seems that the Premium edition is much better (not to mention cheaper). The premium has all the media features while the Business offers fax/scanning, backup and remote desktop support without any of the media features. Are there any other key features of the Business edition that I'm missing? Reason I'm asking is that I'm about to get one of these versions and I find it hard to justify the Business edition. Thanks.
  8. Hi, According to Microsoft's website, the Home Premium edition of Vista does not have RDP support. Does anybody know if they refer to RDP server, RDP client (or both)? Thanks.
  9. Hi, Whenever I use MS update to update my system, it extract temporary files to a specific drive which (I guess) is the one with most free space. Is it possible to manually override the default setting and set my own drive? Thanks.
  10. Officially Adobe Photoshop CS2 is not supported by Vista and Adobe are not going to fix it. If you want Vista support you should get CS3. So maybe CS2 will run on the Vista machine but you don't know what surprises await...
  11. I've searched, found, installed and got myself a nice blue screen. The way I understand it the intstallation of this patch is not automatic, but involves manual copies and settings.
  12. So now I have to beg Microsoft to give me the update?
  13. Hi, It takes me ages to copy files in Vista. It's much slower than XP and actually quite annoying. I've heard that MS made a patch for it. Where can I find this patch? Thanks.
  14. Wrong!! Windows XP is a very good OS. It is 98SE that sucks and it is a great thing that there is no support for it!! XP should be supported for a long long long time to come as it is already a good OS. XP is a good OS, but this presents a problem to Microsoft: why upgrade from a reliable OS? I'm sure that lots of IT managers think the same. Perhaps by reducing support and simply selling new PCs with Vista only will cause people to upgrade to Vista. It worked with the transition from Win2k to xp.
  15. Ok, perhaps someone already asked this question but here I go again: What exactly do I get from upgrading to Vista? It's a huge spyware which follows every move I take. I (semi) understand the need for the activation feature already in XP, but why probe my PC every day? Also, it seems like that instead of letting me do more, this OS makes sure I do less, and supervises it. Making sure that we cannot copy HD content or even DVD content and I can just go on and on. So I get some transperancy features, is that a good reason to upgrade? What do you think?
  16. Using download manager solves it partially; it downloads the stream but at some point decides that the download was completed successfully. Anyway, I've found a solution. I'm using "Web Stream Recorder Pro" from http://www.sytexis.com/index.php.
  17. Hi, I'm looking for a stream ripping software (i.e. recording internet radio). What's your recommendations? Thanks.
  18. I'm using the same driver. The funny thing is that it was working fine and suddenly I've lost the resolution. I've formatted and re-installed windows since but the problem remains.
  19. Nope...doesn't work. Any other way to just force the resolution?
  20. Tried that too...the force resolution allows me to force only existing resolution.
  21. Hi, I have a WinXP with Radeon 7000 and a 19" Widescreen Acer LCD. Up until recently I was using the 1440x900 resolution (the native for the monitor), but for some reason it disappered lately and the only widescreen resolution I can get is 1280*768. The funny thing is that I can set the system for higher resolutions than 1440 and it works. I have all the latest drivers for both the monitor and the graphics card. How can I get this resolution back? Thanks.
  22. Hi, With XP I had Powertoys to do the job, but it won't work with Vista, so I have couple of questions: 1. How do I disable the integral CD recording feature? 2. How can I change the default location of the Favorites folder? Thanks.
