  1. tommyp: your solution worked. I removed the simple sharing setting, and changed the read-only attrib. However, I still don't know how to change the default location of windows update temp files. Curv Boll: thanks for your comment, but you are suggesting that I will manually download the updates...which I don't want to.
  2. No. I can't remove the files in safe mode or in command prompt safe mode..
  3. Hi. Windows update create temp files on the hard disc under a hashed directory name and puts there a file called update.exe which updates the system. I have two problems: 1. These temporary folders are created in a hard disk that i need for some special purposes, I want them to be created on my c: (boot) drive. How can I do that? 2. I can't delete the old folders that were created, I get an "access denied" for the update.exe. I'm using WinXP Pro, and I'm the admin of the pc. Thanks.
  4. I think that the cmd file has an advantage when you do not want to copy the installation files to the HDD. I've created a WinXP DVD with tons of installations, so instead of copying 3GB to the hard drive twice (once the installation files, and once installing the apps themselves) they are just being installed once.
  5. Hi, How can I remove the annoying Security Alerts tary icon in SP that keeps bugging me all the time? Thanx
  6. Hi. I've added Microsoft XP Plus to my unattended DVD installation. The installation is going fine, but later when the pc goes to screensaver mode, the XP PLUS EULA box pops up and I need to click "I Agree" to continue. After that it works fine. Is there's some registry entry that allows me to simulate the EULA acception? Thanks.
  7. This has been mentioned on forum already many times.. Do a search for it. ;Control Panel - Classic View [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "ForceClassicControlPanel"=dword:00000001 I am using the setting...but my start menu is classic (i.e. one column, no mfu).
  8. HI. What registry setting should I make to make sure that my start menu is NOT classic? Thanks
  9. Hi. Is it possible to allow the unattended setup to generate a randomized name for the pc? I want to use the installation on a few network computers, and I want to avoid name collision. I don't mind what the generated name will look like, as long as it is unique.... Any ideas? Thanks.
  10. Hi. I'm getting close to my ultimate unattended WinXP DVD (mainly because I can't stuff anymore installations there...) thanks to this board. I've implemented some of the registry tweaks I've found here but I have two problems that I can't solve: 1. The login screen is now black instead of blue. 2. The start menu is classic and not WinXP start menu. I've tried to change almost every tweak, but could not find the solutin to these two. Any ideas? Thanx
  11. Hi. I see that there is a thread discussing the Nav2004 installation, but I want to add the Internet Security 2004 Pro to my XP cd installation. Can someone help me with that? TIA.
  12. Hi. How can I tweak the windows explorer toolbar using .reg file? I want to remove the captions, add some buttons (copy, cut, paste) and remove some other buttons. Thx.
  13. WwTIPPYwW: Found it myself just before reading you answer But that's the reason...
  14. Hi. I use a batch file to install all the applications I need after winxp installation. However, the shutdown.exe does not work. I've placed it at the end of the batch file after removing the installation files from the c: drive. I use the following switches: shutdown.exe -r -f. What am I doing worng? Thx.
