  1. In the Addons page, you can add: 1) Microsft updates/hotfixes (KBxxxxx.exe) including, for instance, IE7.exe 2) Zipped (.rar or .7z) packages with software or MS Hotfixes (e.g. Xable's or RyanVM's packs) 3) Compressed programs (.cab files) Add them as they are, en block - do not try to exctract! nLite will incorporate them in your installation, yes. So, when Windows are installed, these programs will also be installed (in the Add/Remove Programs, you will see 7-zip, Adobe Reader, or whatever else you added - note that you will not see the MS updates, though). In the Unattended page, you can change settings so that the installation is done with or without user input. You can add your windows key, name, computer name, etc., so that the setup does not stop for these things waiting for you! There is nothing really related to the addons here.
  2. You are welcome. Maybe WMP 6.4 core does not do much without the Win Media Format Runtimes; that would be my guess. Now, the WMP folder under Program Files is not really a big deal as you say, but did you remove WMP6.4/9 and also disabled WMP compatability at the end? Did you try to delete the folder manually? (don't try that now that you have kept WMP core and also installed WMLite, eh!!!) PS: And yes, you can keep WMP6.4 core and disable future WMP compatability; I was wrong at the beginning it's only when you keep both WMP6.4/9 that nLite presets that option to enabled.
  3. what time is it in Australia??? anyway, keep secondary logon then. But as I said before, the easiest/safest thing to do it is, right now, from within windows, create a secondary hardware profile and disable all the services you think you don't need and see how things work.

    nLite Directories

Remove them. nLite will not blindly remove the content of these directories - it will remove anything not needed according to your selections on hardware/services/etc.
  5. I guess, what did you expect within 30min or so, eh? The software you mention does not usually depend on base Windows services; all that stuff (antivirus, adobe, etc., etc.) add their own services when you install the software. Now, it depends whether your PC is a stand-alone (i.e. you are the only one using it or are there other users as well). For a stand-alone, I think it is safe to remove these: alerter beep driver error reporting IMAPI (have Nero or something equivalent?) Indexing IPSEC Messanger Network DDE QoS RSVP + QoS Remote Registry Removable storage (only keep if you are using iomega) Route Listening RPC Locator Secondary logon Service advertising Simple TCP/IP SNMP NetBIOS Telnet Uninterruptible power supply (if you don't use a UPS, or you don't need to manage it through windows) The easiest thing to do is keep all of them, then try disabling the ones you think you don't need (for instance, create a 2nd hardware profile) and see if eveything works, and so on. Once you end up with the list you don't need, remove them with nLite.

    Component Removal

You didn't give us a rundown exactly, but you can try keeping these and see how it works: Bluetooth + Infrared (if you have bluetooth) Brother (if you have any such printer/scanner) CPU AMD Firewire + network (if you have any FW or iLink ports) Floppy (if you have FD) IEEE 1284.4 (if you print/scan via USB) Iomega (if you have zip) Joystick (if you use any) Logical Disk Manag. MS Color Manag. Modem support (if you plan on using dial-up; PCI or external) Ports Printer SD host and Sony MS if you use any Teletext (if you watch TV on PC) USB audio (if you use any portable audio device) USB ethernet (this is not for LAN; it is for USB ports coming out from your motherboard via ethernet; keep if you are not sure) USB video Capture (if you use a webcam) Video capture Windows Image Acq. You might also consider keeping some PCI/IDE controllers if you are not sure; I don't keep them, but it's like 10KB each! And, if you are planning on upgrading your PC, you might also consider keeping other things you might need, e.g. CPU Intel or Multiprocessor (for core duo or AMD X2) or whatever. Or make another nLite compilation at that time! Be aware, though: it's all about trial and error... Hope eveything works for you!
  7. MSMail/MAPI under Network?
  8. Media Center has nothing to do with it. Are you sure you kept WMP 6.4? Check again. I was under the impression that, if you keep WMP core, nLite at the end does not allow you to disable WMP compatibility - that option is only available when you remove WMP altogether (I think). It is weird that you kept WMP6.4 and yet you cannot play WMV. Can you watch WMV online? If you don’t want WMP, you should remove WMP 6.4/9 but at the end keep WMP compatibility enabled. Then, you can use WMLite (one of the two below) to install Windows Media Runtimes (to play WMV with the player of your choice) and the browser plug-in (to watch WMV online with the browser of your choice). WMLite 2.4.0 from http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Windows_Media_Lite.htm WMLite10 2.1.0.36 from http://ksphere.free.fr/site/codecspackage.php
  9. Here you go: Be aware of the following: 1) This is for an ASUS R2H UMPC. 2) Target is XP Pro with tablet features integrated. 3) It's a no sounds/themes and no WMP install. 4) Some (perhaps 5 out of 80) hotfixes included in Xable’s 7z pack show up again post-install (I ignored them). 5) I keep the latest hotfix for IE7 (now it’s the KB942615) and apply it post-install. For some reason, IE7 refuses to launch due to something going on in the urlmon.dll, but applying the update resolves this (this is not the case when you integrate it; I have no idea why). I've never had issues 4 and 5 with XP Pro (without Tablet) so I guess they have something to do with adding the tablet features. ================== [Main] Env = 1.4.1 - 2.0.50727.832.Microsoft Windows NT 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Target = Windows XP Professional SP2 - 5.1.2600.2180 - English (United States) [Tasks] Remove Components Unattended Setup Hotfixes and Update Packs Tweaks Create a Bootable ISO Options [Components] ;# Applications # 10. Hallo. I would like to share with you all my experience with nLite-ing Windows XP Tablet PC ed 2005. Windows XP Pro has always worked fine for me, but Tablet turned out to be a bit tricky. You may already be aware of these peculiarities, but here they are anyway: 1) Removing .NET Framework (under OS Options) kills the Tablet's on-screen keyboard (you just get an empty frame) and does not allow Tablet Input Panel to launch. I wasn't able to correct these problems post-install with dotnetfx 1.1, 2, or higher. 2) It's self-explanatory that you need to keep Tablet PC and Speech Support (under Multimedia), but this is not all. For the Speech feature to function properly, you also need (possibly) MS Agent and (definitely) Input Method Editor (under OS Options). In one installation without either of the two, Speech just crashed all the time. I installed the MS Agent core components and SAPI 4 post-install but that didn't work (that's why MS Agent gets a "possibly"). In another installation (with 10-20 others in-between!) where I kept both Agent+IME, everything worked and the Tablet finally listens to what I have to say! Well, that's it! Hope you find this useful.
  11. I am not sure I understand the 3 CDs you have. XP Tablet and Media Center is simply XP PRO with added tablet or media center features. Hence you should have one XP PRO CD and another CD with a CMPNENTS folder only (with these 3 subdirectories: NETFX, MEDIACTR, TABLETPC). There is also a CMPNENTS folder in your XP PRO CD, usually with a NETFX subdir (the same as the NETFX subdir in the second CD) and perhaps incomplete TABLETPC and MEDIACTR subdirs (without the respective CABs, which are located in the second CD). I guess what you need to do is copy the TABLETPC subdir from your TABLET PC CD and ovewrite the TABLETPC subdir in your XP PRO CD (under CMPNENTS) and do the same with the MEDIACTR subdir from your MEDIA CENTER CD (overwrite the MEDIACTR subdir in your XP PRO CD). So, you will end up with a CD that can install XP PRO, TABLET or MEDIA CENTER, depending on the windows key you use - you need to provide the respective key for Pro, Tablet, or Media Center, otherwise the additional features will not be installed even if you have them in your installation CD. However, this will work only if all three CDs (or keys) you have are the same type, i.e. retail, OEM, or VLKs. Because there is the file setupp.ini in the I386 folder that instructs the CD what kind of keys it will accept (eg. if you have a retail XP Pro CD and an OEM XP Tablet CD, you will not be able to make it work both ways, I think).
