  1. Well I could make and post a pic of the CD itself which says "Upgrade with SP2" quite next to the "(Volume License Product Key Required)". Unless I am totally mistaken and wrong (though that happens, I can assure you ), it would mean it is a Volume License Upgrade CD I think. And yes, the Upgrade Install asks for a original Full XP CD, however after slipstreaming the new CD (based on the Upgrade CD) doesn't ask anymore...and that is a little surprising to me... regards, kaneda
  2. Hello all, I have a question: Is there a technical difference between a "Full XP Install CD" and an "Upgrade XP CD"? Here in my office we have multiple versions (distributed by MS other the past years) of XP, both Japn and Engl and some are pre SP1, some are SP1 and some are SP2. But for whatever reason, the last Engl. XP SP2 Full Install CD is gone, we are stuck with an upgrade CD or pre-SP1 CDs (of course we have a volume license). I actually didn't notice this when I used the upgrade CD for some slipstreaming tests, since I could always do a full install with the new slipstreamed CD on a freshly formatted drive. However once I wanted to install directly without slipstreaming on virtual machine, and then I received the error message that no previous version to upgrade can be found. So now I wonder, why did the slipstreamed version work? Is the upgrade CD technically a full XP with a restricted license/installer (would make sense)? Or did the slipstreaming tool somehow added some necessary previoulsy missing files to the CD so it then could do a full install? The key used to install was always the same from our volume license.
  3. well, you can either go step-bystep backwards from your current preset until it works, or you start at the beginning adn go forward until it breaks. Depending on how much you changed and what kind of tweaks you did, you gotta decide which is the bette one...
  4. why is that? Shouldn't the final SP3 include also IE7 and WMP11 updates? Are they just excluded temporarily since probably more of them will come until the release date?
  5. hm sorry but I don't get what you mean. Even if SP3 would not include IE7 and WMP11 hotfixes, he can still download/install/slipstream then manually. Or will SP3 keep me from installing IE7 Hotfixes? That I can't really imagine...?
  6. why don't you go step-by-step to find the error? Just make sure between each step that the current version works! 1. Only Hotfixes. 2. then all Hotfixes, IE7 and WMP11 3. next one is .Net framework, maybe each one also step by step, first 1 and 2, then later if it all works 3. 4. now add your tweaks, still everything ok? 5. then now add addons and stuff. this way you will see which step screws it up... And of course, everythime start with a fresh source, and to be safe reload the last preset (to make sure you fully repead the last step)... If it is still really the .NET install, try to make your CD without, then go to WinUpdate and install it. Does it work this way? Because if not, the reason is something else on your CD. If it works via update, then something is relaly wrong with the way you integrate it...
  7. Did you integrated IE7 and WMP11 with addon packs? The WMP11 addon pack I used also directly offers to integrate all hotfixes. As for IE7, SP3 includes all patches up-to-date for it (otherwise the SP3 wouldn't make so much sense I think). So maybe it also includes all WMP11 updates... actually, I certainly hope it does!
  8. well, it was certainly the driver. All other previous builds incl. slipstreamed WMP11 work now too. Apparently this driver needs to be installed with an exe ile. Thanks for the help!
  9. hm it must be the network drivers for the Intel Pro1000 card. I removed them and slipstreamed all Hotfixes and IE7 including all Hotfixes and it worked. Strange... do you need the driverfile or some more info on that? Or is this a known issue?
  10. sorry for the late reply: The ini is attached, can't remember the error message right now. It appeared when the setup bluescreen finally disappears and the first time the Standard Windows blue background is visible. At this moment it says something about a rundll error and it restarted the setup. There was not much other information in that error message, but if you want, I can create that XP CD again and install and therefre get the error again... LAST_SESSION_IE7_only.INI
  11. OK, first install only with IE7 crashed during setup. Then I installed with all IE7 updates but forget to slipstream the network drivers and it works. I wonder if its the drivers... I will try some more tomorrow and then we will see...
  12. Hey Nuhi, thanks for the help! (and nice tool you got there ). I will check if I really removed all IE6 patches, I thought I did so. The error always happen after installation, during setup everything runs fine. For the DirectX I didn't get an error, but it isn't the DirectX Installer, just a hotfix for it, this also doesn't work? I just read somewhere that DirectX9 was included in SP2, hence I thought it makes sense to include it. Shame on me But I maybe found another problem, if that is the reason, then REALLY shame on me, because I simply didn't see it before. The only original XP-CD incl. SP2 that I could find in the my Dept. apparently is only an upgrade CD (other CDs are pre-SP2). I realised that when I tried something else in Virtual PC and the setup complained. Interestingly, the slipstreamed CD I created with it did not complain about that during setup and installed XP flawlessly (except IE7). Could that be the reason? Or is even an upgrade CD "officially" enough for slipstreaming (sames files, just different license?) Though in VirtualPC is used to install on an clean virtual HD, whereas the slipstreamed CD I tried on a Laptop that had alreay XP installed (though of course I always formatted it). But maybe that existing XP(before format by the XP setup) was enough to convince the Upgrade-Install to not complain?
  13. Well first of all, thanks a lot for the info! However, I would really like to (almost have to) stay away from add-ons where there they don't seem necessary (and as far as I understand there should be no problem with IE7). The XP-CDs that I want to create will be used in our offices, so....
  14. Hey all, I am quite new to all this, please be patient I created a slipstreamed XP (almost all Updates are fine, a few are missing but I wanted to fix that at the end). Without IE7 it works fine. I used to manually install IE7 after installing the slipstreamed XP (to make the WinUpdate check for missing patches more easy) and it always worked. However, when I also slipstream IE7, it never works. I tried only IE7, and IE7 with all updates. I put all that at the top of the hotfix list or at the end, no difference. Please take a look at the attached ini.(as well as the error messages)... It is all pretty basic, except the hotfixes I only entered language settings and admin passwords (and stuff like that). What do I do wrong? I searched this forum and other places, everywhere it is said IE7 can be easily integrated (and it is the newer install without WGA check), but it just doesn't work. Do I have to put the IE7 including all updates into the SVCPACK.INF? Hell, I don't even know if I can easily combine nLite and the SVCPACK.INF...? And before you recommend other UpdatePacks and such: I need to make sure that all files (except nLite) have been downloaded from MS, for certain security reasons. Only if there is no other way in the end, I would use extra add-ons. Besides that, I just want to know why I am the only one who can't slipstream IE7?? LAST_SESSION.INI IE7_crash.txt
