  1. If you have any important files I would back up your machine before you do anything else. Did you ever run the Upgrade Advisor from the cd or the microsoft website? You should have ran that first, it will tell you wheather or not your system is ready to upgrade to XP Pro. If it is not it will list the software/hardware that needs to be updated and will retrive those updates for you (most of them). If you still have errors occuring your best bet is to format and install fresh.
  2. Sound like the AIM issue that was talked about. What ever it is sounds like its a .wav file looping somewhere. Or of course it could be the boogie man.
  3. Have you tried to see if your modem will work without the software? I know my modem came with software and I never installed it and I have never had a problem. Chances are it is a walk through on how to set it up and maybe some drivers that Xp probably has. I say hook it up without the software and see what happens. If it requires drivers go to the company website of the modem.
  4. I said the hell with it and backed up the drive via safe mode and reformated and put XP pro. on. Thanks for the help.
  5. Went to Roxio and looked into mannual removal, did it, but it didnt work. So I guess I can rule that out.
  6. I am running w2k and i was looking into upgrading to xp-pro. I downloaded the Upgrade Advisor and ran it. It told me that I had an old version of ez cd creator and i should update it or remove it. I went to remove it and there was no such program. I did a reinstall of the program and then restarted my machine. When it booted back up I got the w2k load screen with the blue bar at the bottom, but then it went to a blue screen that told me a bunch of crap about bad hardware and or software. I booted in safe mode to remove the ez cd but it wont let me. It tells me that window installer failed to start. My Q. is, is it ez cd or the Upgrade Advisor that is causing this? I don't now were or how to remove Upgrade Advisor if it is that.
  7. Question. I know in Outlook Express you can go in and transfer the .dbx files (which are the files that contain you email files). I am sure that Outlook would do the same, does anyone know where these files are kept and what they are called. I plan on reformating my hdd and I want to back those files up. here is a site that talks about Outlook Express files to give you a better understanding of what I am talking about. http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/
  8. I thought I was replying to my post about Outlook 2003 rules. I must have hit post new topic instead of add reply. I will pay more attention.
  9. admin pak or not I should still see local policies and I am not, what is the deal with that?
  10. I ended up figuring it out. All you have to do it click on an email, then right-click>create rule.....and bam! Much easier then what I was trying to do. It didnt import my rules because I just did a fresh install of my OS so it had the folders and emails saved, but no the rules. Thanx for the potenial help
  11. I am running XP pro and I installed the adminpak from 2003 server. I noticed that I do not have any of the policy tool packs, not even local. I am the admin and I have the latest updates. I tried to set up a mmc and snap it in that way, but there is no listing for it. I am not part of a domain, but that should not matter if I want to use local policies. Do I have to enable something to view these tools?
  12. I am a little confused with Outlook 2003. I am use to using OE. I have several accounts in OE and I did import them into O-2003. My problem is setting up rules so that the emails go to there proper folders. If anyone has O-2003 you now that they have change the way you create rules. I want to make a several different rules. Three of them I want to set up so that To or CC of my email address goes to the right folder. In OE you would choose this then hit the link to add the email address that you wanted to filter and choose the proper folder. In O-2003 you do not have the liberty to add email addresses. Instead it say my name in the To and Cc. I use anlysis emails besides my root so I need to add those as well. My other rules I want to set up to say if it is from email-x then go to this folder. I do not see an optoin that will allow my to do this. Can anyone help me out? If not perhaps send me to another forum. Thanks
