  1. Exactly what did you slipstream? SP2? If not then do so. I had a problem that my current CPU model (and perhaps RAM) was not detected (during setup without SP2, got past this with SP2) so I updated to SP2 (would've done it either way) but XP wouldn't detect it under like the system info, so some softwares wouldn't work at all. Had to switch over to Vista cuz of this.... Hardware specc would be appreciated edit: and yes, this was under an Japanese version
  2. You can skip alot of "useless" features if you skip IE and use FF, as for music production... be more specific, music production as in recordings (like live audio whatever editing or perhaps cutting audio for a certain band/artist, just for example...) an such, or editing/remixing digital audio? As for gaming it all depends on if your taking online based games (and I'm sure you are) in mind, and for that you can tweak most XP settings depending on what kind of games your playing. For FPS you might wanna keep some stuff like that codec (I assume it was called ACM?) for F.E.A.R and other games I guess. I could post a nlite setup, but I'm kinda out of internet connectivity (currently spending my time in this "internet cafe") so I might get my broadband back say in a couple of days since I moved to a new location. Oh and please dont define your version for "pure gaming", as "pure gaming" these days are mainly online based ones
  3. Yes that's cuz SP3 was also brought with a new set of keys to be used with. So any other keys except those provided to the beta testers and those (those that are bundled with the recent SP2 editions, jun 2007 or so?) that came with say 1 month or so before SP3 beta will work.
  4. You mean something like this? Although not all hotfixes/updates are posted here, but possibly the "most wanted" ones are here. Most hotfixes often have some basic info on what it applies to like IE, Outlook, WMP or whatever.
  5. Your the one selecting the components for removal, and yes defender can be removed. Oh and as far I as I know, you can use it for non-private use. As long as don't distro the image (i.e sell it etc). But then again when it comes and goes for what policy corps have, well.... your on your own for that one. And if you want support from M$, why are you even bothering with a tool if you do not know what your "fildding" with?
  6. Sure, Vista may have gotten more compatibility fixes for software, but your forgetting the main reason. Tests will never and I mean never show what the OS is made of. For example, why do/did they make tests of 32 bit built games? Of course no 64 bit built games are out on the market yet and most XP users have the x86 version (in my opinion). So your comparing a high end OS with a low end (still good though) that does it's work on the 32 bit architecture and vista with it's 64-bit one. Sure Vista does handle 32 bit apps fine but not as good as XP. So why even bother comparing? Just wait untill the gamemakers comes out with their 64-bit built games, when the CPU can really do it's job (I'm talking aboout 2-8 cores here). XP does not support 4+ cores as far as I know. Oh and your still forgetting one thing. Although this goes for both OSs the games you often play on high end PCs are often such games that you play online. You can have a high end PC, but latency will still beat ya there. So if you have a s***ty connection then you don't have so much to argue about. I had a battle with some friends of mine and we played Q4 and FEAR. Two of them have "high end" specced PCs. But they both have a really slow connection, so that didn't really help much with their "imba" FPS (frames..). So stop comparing 32 built games. and you know just how "good" the x64 XP is
  7. Aight, since your using MPC you only need ffdshow and nothing els. It's alot better than coreavc, it eats less out of your cpu and what els. And since it decodes most of your daily used codecs fast n' smooth, you might wanna get rid these other "codec packs" which installs separate decoding utils which is kinda useless.
  8. You probably removed the WMP codecs by accident. Install any rev from june 2007+ of the ffdshow tryouts by clcid found here -> generic builds. The problem on why your getting a black screen is probably cuz the DVDs (video content) is region protected alas audio content is not. Oh and DO remove K-lite or any other decoder packs when installing ffd as you might get a very very slow playback unless you can config ffd by yourself. And.. what mediaplayer are you using? I assume your bloating around with WMP....
  9. nuhi, your the man! Anyways, things that should be added to list are the following: Disable the thumb.db creation (not sure if Vista has this, or if it stores the file(s) somewhere els). Be able to remove keyboard layouts and languages (just as with nLite). Tweeks: disable autorun on all drives (i.e DVD/CD/HDDVD or Blueray) same as with portable devices that use for example Memory Sticks. add "disable indexing service". add Folder view selection? I also have some questions regarding this picture... which is the following: It is possible to "remove" the search bar here and on the start menu? Might it be possible to hide these back/forward icons? Is there any way to "move" files? I still haven't found this option on Vista.. Anyway to remove the third bar that has the "Organize and View selections" ? edit: some lines were altered.
  10. I got some questions regarding this SP3 beta and the final SP3 (whenever that'll be...) Once this "beta" or "final" version becomes "available" for the "public". Will it, or should I say... It seems that this beta release is already supported with the current Nlite release(s). So what I'm wondering is... Would if be safe to slipstream SP3/SP3beta untop a SP2 slipstreamed Gold CD? Or.. Should I use my Gold CD to slipstream this beta or final version, and forget about SP2? Or should I just slipstream SP2 and then SP3? I've read about that SP3 holds the current hotfixes dated back to SP2, so should it be safe to use RyanVM's Post-SP2 Update Pack (which will probably be renamed to SP3...) untop this SP3 beta or final release? I mean.. wont it interfere with the SP3 hotfixes that are already intergrated when slipstreamed? This is of course common sense that it would, but since im not sure whatever Ryan's Post-SP2 Update Pack holds all hotfixes dated back prior (I assume it does) to SP2? I'm also wondering if anyone knows if this goddamned SP3 will contain .NET Framework 2/3? Edit: I assume that this will be the same case as it was with SP1 > SP2.
