  1. I'm closer than most to Antarctica. From Tasmania.
  2. Great! I knew we'd work it out eventually. Cheers
  3. When you click in something you can type in ,eg notepad word etc, do the language bar icons change? The input method icon (Ithink it looks like an A) won't show unless you have an active window which you can type in. I hope that came out understandable - it's hard to explain. If I was at home I could give you some screen shots. Another thing is to drag the language bar on to the desktop so you can see it all. Although with the problem I used to have I'd just get the JP and Keyboard icons with the CAPS and KANA buttons. If it's working properly you should see the input method icon (looks like letter A). Can you show an image of it once you drag the language bar on the desktop? No worries. I don't mind helping at all. It's frustrating when the language bar doesn't work. We'll work it out I'm sure If it's still not sorted by the time I get home (3 hours away) I'll do some screenshots etc to help.
  4. Oops. Sorry I think I've gotten confused and I've confused this whole thread! I used to have a problem where my language bar was shorter than normal and most of the options were gone. All it would have was a couple of icons and a KANA and CAPS or something buttons. The menu you showed wouldn't show up too. Is that what is happening to you?
  5. You mean you don't understand the menu? This is what they do on my machine. Direct Input English characters Hiragana Let's you type in Hiragana. Full - width Katakana Let's you type in Katakana. The half-width ones I don't use. I jsut use spacebar, or type xtu for little tsu etc. I think that's what this option is for. I use Hiragana all the time as you can change it to katakana/kanji by pressing spacebar - it will bring up a little menu where you can select the appropriate kanji/kana. Use enter to stop it from changing. Cheers
  6. Unfortunately on my work machine atm, which does haven't eastern chars installed. I'll have a look when I get home I need to use Japanese on my machine as well, so I've been through the same problem myself. Glad it helped. Cheers
  7. Have you selected JP in the language toolbar? Once you have done that pres ALT + ~ to switch to hiragana input. When typing you can change to relevant kanji/katakana with space bar. Pressing enter stops this changing. Make sure the application you want to enter Japanese characters in is the active window when you press ALT + ~. You can directly select Hiragana/Katakana from the language tool bar, but I find ALT + ~ easier. Especially if you switch between Japanese and another language. Oh and when I say press ALT + ~ I mean just push and hold ALT and then tap the ~ key. The unicode setting is for applications/text files which need to display in Japanese. It won't affect input, just how non-unicode files applications display text. You've probably noticed that when viewing a non unicode Japanese file or app it's just all silly characters unless unicode is set to Japanese. Hope that helps Cheers
  8. Could some one post a list of hotfixes needed after SP6a and SRP then? The MS site is very unclear on what ones need to be applied after SP6a and the SRP
  9. Unfortunately that will only disable or enable the the settings for it. When AutoUpdate=off in winnt.sif it actually isn't installed. I need to install the component again.
  10. Hello all I have removed Auto Updates by AutoUpdate = Off in winnt.sif. I'd like to install Auto Updates on machines where it has been removed. I've tried the Auto Updates download form the SUS website this won't install as it won't run on XP SP1. Is there a way to get them back? Cheers
  11. Sorry. Yes that post is extremely long. I only really realize how long it is now. I've done nothing unorthodox, that's why it puzzles me. I think you'll find all the questions I've asked before have been well laid out. This is the only one where I've done such a huge copy paste without out much thought - late night. Editing it to shrink it.
  12. Hello all Norton utils 2002 win doctor reports when run that it hasn't been registered and doesn't work. Norton Protected Files Unerase reports much the same and doesn't run. I am installing these programs normally ie not being installed unattended. These programs worked on an older unattended install I used. Since then I have changed to using RunOnceEX and use different reg tweaks now. I have set all services to automatic and tried re-installing both applications to no avail. I am guessing it is not a service related problem. Has anybody seen these errors before? Edited: Sorry for the massive amount of text people. Late night brain deficit disorder. PDF Creator solved. Just norton now.
  13. Hello everyone I've tried searching on all sorts of terms but I can't find anything on rolling the hotfixes and service pack into the installation. I remember seeing something a while ago. Can anybody point me in the right direction? Thanks
  14. Thanks Bachus that did the trick. Now if only I could get those **** visual settings and small icons in start menu to apply.......
  15. Ignorance = Bliss Thanks Caramel, I've wasted enough time trying to fix it so I'll just let it go. Thanks for the info. Cheers
  16. ZoSTeR that's what I can't work out, why the wizard appears in the first place. Normally windows would just detect the SCSI controller and automatically install driver anyway. For some reason it doesn't it asks me to choose automatically find or specify location. I've gone through all my regtweaks and can't see anything that could be doing it. Not running nLite either. Maybe it's something in winnt.sif - is there any command in there that could cause this? The only thing that sounds remotely related is DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore, don't know how that could be affecting it. AutoIT looks like it would require too much fiddling to do this, I've been working on this all weekend and I am not function 100% atm.
  17. @mazin Thanks for that script, I'll have another look and see if it will help. @MCT autoit scripts looks the go Thanks people
  18. Oops, that was kind of an obvious syntax error. Don't know how I missed it. With regard to the others I'll just have to deal with setting them manually. Just about everything is automated now. THanks
  19. Here's another one that won't apply. Once again being run from cmdlines.txt ; Desktop icons [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel] "{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000001 "{208D2C60-3AEA-1069-A2D7-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000001 "{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}"=dword:00000001 "{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000001 Rotten icons are still there. Another ;Remove "Shotcut to" in new shorcuts HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer "Link"=hex:00,00,00,00 And it still puts "Shortcut to" in front. This is driving me mad. It's unbelievable how hard it is to get some settings to apply. Any ideas? Thanks
  20. Thanks. Not what I'm after though, although it does look interesting. Trying to stop Found new hardware wizard appearing - automate it so it automatically finds and installs a driver. Cheers
  21. Thanks I'll give it a shot. Had a bit of a look around in the same area of the reg but nothing stands out. Maybe this will do it, although I think this is more to do with checking the internet for an unkown device driver. Cheers
  22. That's what I was thinking, but I can't seem to find a reg to do the job. It be nice to have that wizard not come up. The reg tweaks thread is getting huge, is there a way to search per thread? Could you point me to one? Thanks
  23. Hello all I'm installing Daemon Tools 346 from RunOnceEx with this code REG ADD %KEY%\060 /VE /D "Daemon Tools 3.46" /f REG ADD %KEY%\060 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\dt\dt346.msi /qb REBOOT=Suppress" /f This works fine. The problem is the Found New Hardware Wizard kicks in and says it has detected a SCSI controller. I then have to click next and then finish for it to install. I though of using a vbs script, but it would probably be messy as the time it takes for the wizard to pop up can vary. Is there a way to stop the wizard from appearing? To have windows find the driver automatically and install it with out asking? Thanks
