Hi All, I have used nLite extensively in the past, but I am new to vLite. What is the purpose of the Apply button? I searched the online help on the vLite site, but I didn't see anything. Thanks for any responses. Regards, Mike

Adobe Reader won't install in Vista
mikep56 replied to mikep56's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
Hi Kels, Thanks for being patient with my dumb-a**! Regards, mike EDIT: Thanks to blinkdt for pointing out to akoop that running the installer with the "/?" switch will not install the product, even though the message in the box would lead you to that conclusion. It did lead me there! -
Adobe Reader won't install in Vista

Hi Kels, Thanks for the info on the switches. I thought I tried 7 Zip, WinRar, and the USSF to search for any install switches; I did not find any. How did you go about getting these switches? Regards, Mike -
Adobe Reader won't install in Vista
mikep56 replied to mikep56's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
Hi Kels, I am not at my home PC right now. Please explain these switches to me. Are they in the new WPI but not the 6.4(?)version? My install DVD is with v6.4, and I haven't gotten around to switching over. Are the versions backwards compatible? Thanks again for a great program! Regards, MIke -
Adobe Reader won't install in Vista
mikep56 replied to mikep56's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
Hi submix8c, I have used Auto-It along with WPI for quite a while. They make an awesome combination. However, during the install process of Adobe Reader there are several button pushes that are needed to complete the install, as can be seen from the script. How would these be accomplished in WPI without Auto-It? As an aside, do you think that I might need to copy the installer file to the target HD and then run it? I didn't think of that because if I run the script directly, it installs. It only fails when run from WPI. Regards, Mike EDIT Hi submix8c, You nailed it right on the head!! I rewrote the Auto-It script to copy the script file and the install file to the C:\drive of the target PC, and then run the script from the C:\drive. It installed perfectly. Thanks for the quick response. Regards, Mike -
Hi All, I have been a user of WPI for quite a while now and it is awesome! I have run up against an error that I cannot seem to work around. I am installing Adobe Reader 9 on a clean Vista install. No components were removed. I am using an Auto-It script to do the installation. If I run the script manually, Adobe Reader installs fine. But when I call the script from WPI I get the error message as shown in the attached jpg file. I have also attached my config.js file, and the AutoIt script. There is other software that I am installing that installs with no problem. Thanks for any help that I can get with this problem! Regards, Mike AutoIt_Script.txt config.js

Hi DigeratiPrime, I am not really looking to go the mod chip route; this is meant to be a completely legitimate backup. The reason is 5 and 7 year olds don't quite get the "handle by the edges" thing. Thanks for the quick response. Regards, Mike

Hi All, I bought my nephews, aged 5 and 7, a Wii for Christmas. 3 months later and already some of the games are showing wear. Is there a method to back up the games? Regards, Mike

Hi All, I have spent a lot of time learning and configuring WPI v6.4 to my liking. This is an awesome program! Now I would like to upgrade from v6.4 to v7.0. Is it simply a matter of moving my /Install folder and my custom support files from the v6.4 to the v7.0, ot do I need to start over? Regards, Mike

Hi Ponch, I changed my method because when I changed over to SP3, it was no longer working. I have burned nlited SP2 CDs with Nero and used boot.bin with no problems many times. Only when it wasn't working the same with SP3 did I change my method. Regards, Mike
-
Hi johnhc, After reading some more stuff about this, I thought the problem was with the boot.bin file that I was using to make the CD bootable. This is the file that my WXP with SP2 bootable CD uses. My thought was that maybe SP3 is drastically different enough that it needs a different boot.bin. This sounded kind of odd, but I was tired of burning coasters. So I downloaded microsoftcorporation.img, burned a CD, and VOILA...it boots and runs fine. Go figure that out! Anyway, thanks for your help! Regards, Mike

Hi All, I have a question about slipstreaming SP3 into Windows XP Pro. I have successfully slipstreamed SP2 into XP Pro. However, do I understand it correctly that SP3 cannot be slipstreamed into a clean WinXP Pro source? Does SP3 need to be slipstreamed into XP Pro source files that already have a lower service pack slipstreamed? That seems to be what the page on Microsoft's web site is saying; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389. This is different from slipstreming SP2, or am I just being thick? Regards, Mike

Hi Johnhc, I am not home now, when I get home tonite I will attach the last session.ini. Like I said, I have used this before, but this is the first time with SP3. Maybe I changed a setting somewhere, I don't know. I will attach tonite. Thanks for the prompt response. Regards, Mike

Hi All, I have used nLite to successfully create bootable install CDs with Windows XP Pro SP2 in the past. I have then used Nero 6.6 to burn the files to a bootable CD using the boot.bin that is supplied with Nero. I have tried to do the same with Windows XP Pro SP3, but have had no luck. The CD is bootable, but it shows prompts for Caldera DOS, and ends up showing an A:\, which is for the floppy drive still on this PC. Now I haven't done this for quite a while, and I don't remember there being any tricks to doing this. I am sure that the boot.bin file is the same because I created the CD on the same machine as I did the Windows XP Pro SP2 CD. Is there some setting that I changed in nLite that is causing this? Regards, Mike

Hi All, I need some help in doing a silent install of MS Publisher 2002. I have been working on and off of this for a few months, and cannot figure this out. I have tried AutoIt, I have tried learning how to install from the DOS command line, but I am lost. The main folder has AUTORUN.INF, INSTMSI.EXE, INSTMSIW.EXE, OFFICE1.CAB, and PUB.MSI. Then there is a FILES folder with other nested folders beneath it. Please help. Searching the forum only brings up my previous post, which doesn't help. Thanks for any guidance. Regards, Mike

Hi All, I have set up a computer for my 2 nephews, aged 7 and 5, to play games. Being 7 and 5, I do not want them to have access to the taskbar. I have a small program called Hide Task Bar that is in their Startup folder. When they log on to the PC it hides the taskbar completely, so it is not present. Then they can click on icons that I have placed on their desktop, so they have access to only these games. The right click is also disabled, so they cannot use any context menu functions. The problem occurs with some of their games that run in full screen mode. These games run fine, but when they exit these games and are back on the desktop, the taskbar has re-appeared. Is there another folder that I can put this program, Hide Task Bar, into or some other method to permanently hide or remove the taskbar from their desktop? Their are other users on this PC, and I would prefer to keep this restriction to my nephew's desktop only. Thanks for any suggestions. Regards, Mike

Hi Kel, I have, as I am sure do many other grateful users, a large script with lots and lots of entries that would be a pain in the @$$ to redo. Does WPI 6.4 work with scripts written for WPI 6.3 (please say yes!!)? Does 6.3 need to be removed before installing 6.4, or can 6.4 be installed over 6.3? Thanks for a great piece of software! regards, Mike

Hi All, I believe that this is a Windows XP Pro issue and not an nLite issue. I have used my nLited Windows XP Pro CD on multiple systems, but this is the first time that I have encountered this problem. I used this CD to set up a new PC, and once it was done I added several users. Now when it boots it boots directly into the default Administrator's desktop, not to the welcome screen where the added users need to log on. Some are limited accounts and some are administrator accounts. To let the other users on this PC log on, the default administrator needs to log off first, then the welcome screen comes up where all the users are listed. Now for the strange part. The way that I understand it, as long as there is at least one other administrator account, the default administrator account can be deleted by one of the other administrators. When one of the other administrators logs on, the default administrator is not shown in the welcome screen or in the User's section of the control panel, where users are added and deleted. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. Regards, Mike EDIT: The answer is to run userpassword2 from the Start button - Run, and then select the checkbox about requiring all users to log on with a password. This always brought up the Welcome screen. Regards, Mike
