  1. You are weak in the force. Let me show you the darkside. You need regmon. Set the filter to only look at "SetValue" entries. Make you changes, watch and learn. This is how the Jedi masters do it.
  2. You should use robocopy instead of xcopy. Your scripts are simple, which is good - but inefficient. You use rmdir instead of rd - but it's OK, you're young. But, you have the fatal mistake of assuming that people have the same binaries in their path as you do (mplay32.exe). My advice, go out and get laid.

    Which SATA driver?

Well, first of all you PC isn't speaking English. American drivers hate foreigners. OK, I know exactly what your problem is. You are loading drivers that are conflicting with the native drivers that come with Windows. Try installing Windows old school. From the CDROM, with no F6 drivers - old school. Maybe just the IntelINF drivers.
  4. You don't want to do it that way g-force. The Default User NTUSER.DAT file contains special security settings, SSID's and REG_EXPAND_SZ keys that are unique to that particular installation. You will majorly screw up new user profiles if you do it that way.
  5. Thanks for that excellent explanation carhak! But you got to be kidding me! What possible use can this be except for people in the black-hat community? Does anyone know if this can be disabled via group policies or registry settings in Windows XP/Vista?
  6. Cokedudeusf, Modifying the default user profile has always been a pain in the a** with Windows. Here is how I have been doing it since the NT4 days. This works for new Domain users logging in and it works for new Local users logging in. First you need the reg files with the HKCU registry settings you want applied to all users on your XP machine. I create these reg files by using regshot on a brand new generic Windows installation. But I'm sure you already have a bunch of registry files you want to have applied to new users. When developing your reg files make them into small files that deal with only a particular function you want to modify, that way you can remove/modify them easily. Here is a link with just a few of the registry files I load. The names I use are descriptive so I can figure them out later (I use around 40 of these registry files), it's important that the registry file names do not have spaces (use underscores). Create the following directory in your $OEM$ directory in your distribution: $OEM$\c\install\settings And put all your registry files in the settings directory Modify your $OEM$\cmdlines.txt file by adding the following line: ".\SETUP.CMD" Note: the quotes are important Then you need to create the setup.cmd file referenced above. In the $OEM% directory create a new text file (using notepad) called SETUP.CMD, and add the following: for %%i in (C:\INSTALL\SETTINGS\*.reg) do regedit /s "%%i" That's it. Any registry files you copy to $OEM$\c\install\settings will be applied to the Default User profile, and applied to all user accounts, including the Administrator account.
  7. Warning - The Link Below is NSFW! It's the old goatse.cx web page. I'm sure most of you have seen this, but that doesn't make it less disgusting. I've had users who have been tricked in to clicking the following URL: http://1096965168/ It's doesn't look like a valid link, and indeed it shouldn't be. But the link works! WHY? And how do I disable url's like this from getting resolved? As an experiment I tried pinging the "address" and it resolved! ping 1096965168 Pinging 65.98.92.48 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 65.98.92.48: bytes=32 time=113ms TTL=51 Reply from 65.98.92.48: bytes=32 time=112ms TTL=51 Reply from 65.98.92.48: bytes=32 time=112ms TTL=51 Reply from 65.98.92.48: bytes=32 time=112ms TTL=51 Ping statistics for 65.98.92.48: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 112ms, Maximum = 113ms, Average = 112ms I've never seen anything like this before, I'm at a loss as to why this "address" is resolving. It's not a valid DNS name or a valid IP Address. It just doesn't make sense. This was tested on Windows XP using Firefox 3.
  8. It's "supposed" to work that way, but it doesn't. The default hive loaded when you create a new user is located in: C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\NTUSER.DAT NTUSER.DAT is a registry hive and can be opened with regedit if you need to make changes, but its tricky to do: Open Registry Editor. In the registry tree (on the left), click either the HKEY_USERS or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE keys. On the File menu, click Load Hive. In Look in, click the drive, folder, or network computer and folder that contains the hive you want to load. Click Open. In Key Name, type the name that you want to assign to the hive (I use TEMPLATE), and then click OK.
  9. Make sure you have OemPreinstall=Yes in the [unattended] section of your winnt.sif file. Also, why are you specifying drive E: and not drive C: ? I suggest you put the files/directories you want to install in $OEM$\C\INSTALL - this way the files will end up in C:\Install and you run them from there. This is what I've been doing for 5 years with no problem.
  10. If you are using WINNT32.EXE to install XP you can use the /COPYDIR:I386 switch. It works fine for me, you end up with the Installation files in C:\WINDOWS\I386. It doesn't seem to take any longer to install either. Then you just load a regfile or write a script to change the sourcepath locations.
  11. I was wondering about this too.
  12. You can use robocopy to move the files, it comes with Server 2008. With robocopy you can keep the permissions during the copy.
  13. I knew about the -ms for a silent default installation of Firefox. But what does the -ira do? I don't see that documented anywhere. Is it used to keep the Irish away?
  14. Filtering for MAC address is done at the switch level (Layer 2) You have to configure each port to accept only one MAC address. The command you want is switchport port-security. I don't think your router will support that command, but you can give it a shot.
  15. Well, notice ho0w I set my partition ID to 7? You may want to try that.
  16. Well, that post is 5 years old
  17. Here's what I use for Diskpart: SELECT DISK 0 CLEAN CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY ID=7 FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL=System QUICK ASSIGN LETTER=C ACTIVE It took like 5 hours for me to get this simple diskpart script working right
  18. This is best done at a router level. You could block the .torrent association but that wouldn't keep people from manually opening them in a bittorrent client (i.e. using File/Open). I don't think group policies can help you with this one.
  19. That's fantastic Crahak, I had no clue about this!
  20. I've done this on accident before. Get one of those USB multi-flash card reader thingies and plug it in before you start to install Windows. Make sure the hard drive isn't partitioned first, then start the Windows installation. Windows will assign C:, D: E:... etc to the USB media slots, then after it formats and installs Windows. The last time I forgot to disconnect the USB media reader before installing Windows and Windows installed to drive H: - p***ed me off.
  21. Firefox 3.0 has just been released http://pv-mirror01.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla...x/releases/3.0/ Now I need to figure out how to do a customized silent install. Maybe the -ms switch will still work.
  22. Did you use peimg /prep after you finished installing drivers when you first created the image? If so, that is probably why you cant re-add drivers.
  23. The service pack check for previously slipstreamed post-SP2 updates. In particular it searches for a \I386\SVCPACK directory. If this directory exists SP3 will give you that message. You will need to revert back to a plain vanilla SP1 or SP2 distribution in the \I386 directory before you can slipstream SP3.
  24. Use the arrow keys, highlight the entry you want to delete, and hit the delete key.
  25. Hmmm, someone joins the forums and posts about a great deal. They never posted before, but they had to take the time register and tell us about this "great deal" and how "I wasn't scammed". Ya, I'll be jumping right on this. /sarcasm
