  1. There are Logon/Logoff scripts in XP. Run -> GPEDIT.MSC -> User Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Scripts (Logon/Logoff) I don't think Microsoft would have released XP WITHOUT Logon/Logoff scripts. The files for Logon/Logoff get save in: \WINDOWS\System32\GroupPolicy\User\Scripts\Logon and \WINDOWS\System32\GroupPolicy\User\Scripts\Logoff
  2. The site is acting like it's not setting or retrieving cookies right for me. I can't do a "View New Posts" because it says I'm not authorized, and I have to login repeatedly.
  3. Are you trying to change the graphic/scheme or the text? The graphics are in the theme files, but the "Start" text is in explorer.exe, and can be edited with ResHacker.
  4. Why do you guys need a "line" anyway? Whatever happened to using your wits and charm?
  5. Try resetting Security, Privacy and Advanced Options back to default settings, and clearing the Temporary Files. If that works, set them back to desired settings.
  6. There is another type of email scam going around similar to that one. I got one the other day that used my name to generate email from a lawyer claiming to be searching for heirs to another guy with my last name who died in Africa with his family and $55 million dollars. I deleted it, otherwise I would repost it. It even included pictures in attachments.
  7. Pulp Fiction Braveheart Time Bandits Monty Python & The Holy Grail
  8. I use Yahoo's filters to put all HTML messages in their own folder upon receipt. I never read any of them, since they're all SPAM (or Outlook users).
  9. Another (IMO better) guide located here: http://www.deviantpc.com/forums/showthread...=&threadid=1926
  10. I'm running XP Pro SP1 1086, with Proxomitron 4.3 and Kerio 3.0 beta. I've NEVER had a BSOD or any other error from Kerio or Proxomitron together. The ONLY problem I ever had was not uninstalling 2.1.4 before installing 3.0 beta. I just uninstalled both and reinstalled 3.0 beta and like it better. I also tried Tiny 3.0 and hated it. It was dumbed down too much to appeal to corporate users.
  11. Kerio doesn't always update their homepage with the latest beta info. If you want to try the latest version go here: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail.php3?...?fid=1013029502 I'm running 3.0 beta 1 and it's much nicer looking than 2.1.4.
  12. http://support.microsoft.com/?id=kb;en-us;q256841 Try resetting the BIOS settings, particularly "Configuration Data". If that doesn't work see if it will boot from a system disk. If it won't, you might have to reflash your BIOS. Sudden power outages in during the post process can right messed up values to the ACPI configuration data in NVRAM. I had the same thing happen to me with my old iOpener and I had to hotswap the BIOS chip and reflash it in another system's motherboard.
  13. I found this while digging: Setting up a Virtual Private Network in Windows XP
  14. Ok, so it's NOT NTFS.. 1. In Explorer, Tools -> Folder Options 2. "View" tab, under "Advanced Settings:" uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" and check the radio button next to "Show hidden files and folders" 3. Look at the last option under "Advanced Settings:" which is "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)" - that's where the option is set. While Microsoft recommends enabling it, it is better for security to leave it disabled. 4. Click OK See if it gives you access to "System Volume Information."
  15. How did you setup XP as a VPN server? I've connected to the VPN at work from home using XP, but the server was Win2k, not XP. It's easy to do under Win2k, but since I'm just running XP Pro, I don't see anywhere to setup a VPN server.
  16. You've recently reinstalled XP and formatted your partition NTFS instead of FAT32. NTFS includes security options to disallow access to certain directories. The "System Volume Information" in the root of all drives is one such directory. In order to access you need to add rights for Adminstrators. 1. Right click the directory -> Properties 2. Security -> Add 3. Types "Administrators" in the "Enter the object names to select" box, -> OK 4. Highlight "Administrators" and click "Allow" next to "Full Control" under "Permissions for Adminstrators" 5. Click OK You should now have access to "System Volume Information" and all the stuff in it.
  17. I don't think you can setup a VPN server with JUST Windows XP. It lacks the proper Routing and Remote Access functionality of Win2k Server that is required for PPTP (VPN) connections. You can establish connections to servers running VPN access, but not create a VPN connection for others to connect to. On another note, if anyone cares to offer an answer: I thought about configuring my Win2k server to allow incoming VPN connections. I'd share that connection information with friends who could then connect and share LAN resources with me. My question: Anyone ever tried to play a LAN game over a VPN with players connected over the Internet? I think this might be a possible workaround to some of those games that normally require CD-key authentication before allowing you to play online (WC3, RTCW, etc.).
  18. Are you blocking cookies?
  19. If you right click on the Taskbar -> "Lock the Taskbar" Toggle it off and you can move the divider between the "Quick Launch" section and "Running Tasks" so you can see > 6 icons. Toggle it back on to lock your selection and get rid of the dividers. Edit: you can also right click in the "Quick Launch" area and "Open Folder" to add stuff withouth having to browse through Explorer.
  20. Anyone ever done an LED replacement on an optical mouse? I think a blue LED would look pretty good in my mouse: But I don't know if the blue LED would affect tracking. Anyone seen this done or have a link? I'd probably add a small power toggle switch to it as well.
  21. I saw The Eagles last night.
