Hello Sounds good I'll give that a go. Incidentally pics take above in the first post were without the IE5 updates, I tried an install with the IE5's and got the same error, and yep English Windows 2000 Pro. My original disk is a pre- any SP release versions. From now on I'll just answer Y to both questions. Thanks for the help and I'll post back with some results. EDIT: Success! By removing the SETUPP.INI it went through the whole installation! Which brings up some questions, since the o/s didn't use that setupp.ini, did it use another setup.ini or just not one at all? What is [PID], just some sort of program identification (seems obvious)? I mean more like what do the digits 51873270 refer to? Now I did also remove the winnt.sif from the FDVFILES and left my version in the FIX directory, all thought I doubt that had any effect on whether it was going to install or not. I also slimmed it down on the DX files using only the 2 mentioned in the guide, and left out all my cabb'd applications. Here's the text from the successful install (on VM Ware). HFSLIP.7z Next I'll try an install with the programs I have all ready and my drivers, I think it should do fine. As far as any IE6, I only ever used IE to use the WU, now that I know where to get the files released the second Tuesday? of the month, I know now I don't need it. However I did like the 'Web' graphic in the upper left corner, is there any way I can get that back w/out IE? (I have a really cool pic of Angelica Bridges in a painted on Tigress outfit, I'd hate to see that go to waste). Thanx AGAIN for the help!

Well I compared the lists of HF's. I found 6 that I didn't have.. The three IE5 updates, KB926121 , KB917275 (didn't bother with this one because its for DRM), and KB931836 (or this one because it is for 2k3 and its just a time zone issue). I also found 2 that I had that weren't on the list.. KB899591-Remote Desktop vulnerability and KB923689-WM Format vulnerability. So I added the 4 hotfixes to the HF directory, to see if the IE5 updates made a difference, no dice, I still got the Fatal Error. Next I tried the second part of your suggestion, however both the setupapi.dl_ were the same size, dunno if THAT makes a difference or not, but I still got the same Fatal Error. Thanks for the info on MAKEISO that saves me a bit of time The non-FDV fileset disk I had made was just Win2K with the SP4 & SP4 roll-up, o/s hotfix's, Dotnet's 1& 2 & hotfix's, adobe reader 8, MP9 & hotfix's, DX9c, IE6SP1 & hotfix's, JRE-6u1, TweakUi, Icesword, RegCleanr, ASPI 4.70, some cool OpenGL Screensavers, LSP Fix, MSConfig, some of Steve Gibsons Utilities, ResHacker, and some System Internals Utilities. Mostly just some basic stuff. I made it this way so if I switch over rig's I am not installing incorrect drivers if I switch video cards or motherboards, obsolete software (Ex. a\v or spyware progs, etc..). I still have an unattended install, and can add my software as needed, or make an unattended crafted more specifically for that rig. Which is what I'm doing for this one now, hopefully, if I can get past the Fatal Error. So I took a step back to see if it was something else. I removed the entries in the FDVFILES directory, removed the IE5 hotfixes, and re-added the IE6 cabs. Here's a full list.. HFSLIP.7z Everything on that list went in like butter, no Fatal Error. So far everything works, but I haven't tested all of it yet. Any specific software to test thats in the list, that you have heard might not work? Thanks again for the help & info Incidentally, a quick response about migrating over to Linux from the drivers post, between Wine, Cedega, and Cross Over by Code Weavers, very soon there won't be anything that runs on Windows that won't on Linux. EDIT: Lolz I'm a dufus. Been sitting here looking through the hfslip.cmd wondering how you found out about the MAKEISO command, and just put 2 and 2 together! ( tommyp + TommyP's)

Hello As far as using Tomcat76's dynamic hotfix list I don't think so, I'm not sure what that is exactally. But if you mean a web page that allows you to put in checkmarks next to applications and hotfixes that you want installed, no I actually just seen that site today looking around. I only browsed for a second to see what it was and it wasn't what I was looking for atm. I do think it is a cool idea though, and thought to myself " wish I woulda found this before"! I used a link from Vorck's page, there are two of them.... Link to Tomcat76's English hotfix list Link to the_guy's English hotfix list but Tomcat76's English Hotfix list is a broken link (404 error). So I chose the_guy's and downloaded all my updates from the microshaft site and copied all the hotfixes to the \HFSLIP\HF directory. Here's my HFSLIP.LOG HFSLIP.7z Thanx again for the help
  4. Hello, and thanx for the warm welcome! @tommyp I read around a bit and I see that there are some issues with the newer drivers. I can't really say I've had one yet, except the reboot, because I haven't run an install with them in the HFEXPERT\DRIVERCAB\VIDEO directory. I'm just curious do the 84.26 version driver auto-reboot the system?
  5. Hello Or a simpler option, you could have use Icesword to find the vtsqp.dll and used the 'force delete' option.
  6. Hello Probably not what you want to hear, but ever since windows 3.1 in '93 just 2 years of the public internet being introduced, it became good practice that if you use a microsoft operating system, about every 3 months you zero out the drive and reinstall the o/s. At about the 8-10th week you start backing up the stuff you've acquired over the past weeks, and there ya go. Seems like a big deal but in reality, with a good back up, in about 2 hours you can have a fresh o/s that is virus, spyware, and anything else free. IMHO thats the best practice, if your not running IT. Especially with all the effort the people here at these forums have devoted to silent, unattended install, you can load up a CD with a boatload of software and cut your reinstall time in half, with some preparation.

Hello! Is anyone familiar with using Fred Vorck's sp5 files? In an attempt in making a streamlined edition of my W2K I'm using them but I get a fatal error on setup. Here's a some pics I get this error whether I choose to keep or delete the .cat files. I know its not a HFSLIP specific issue because I have made a Win2K with sp4, sp4 rollup, all recent Hotfixes, WMP9 + updates, IE6.1 with all updates, DX9c, Dot net 1.1, 2.0 all patched, and a few utilities like 7-zip, RegCleanr, SystemInternals, etc...It went like butter, mostly. Only difference in the directory structure, is that I have take out the IE6 cabs and hot fixes, and put in the sp5 files into the FDVFILES directory. I am using the 2000SP4EXT for the cleanup, so would that something I should not be using with this sp5 files? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. --Thank You--
  8. Hello I found a solution for 7-zip version 4.4.2 in .exe format, using HFSLIP. If that sentence doesn't describe your situation then disregard this post. What you need to do is just .cab the exe file and include a ENTRIES_***.ini file. There seems to be a few different ways of doing this that I have read around here. Using nLite Add-On Maker seems to be a no fuss way of doing it. Just use that software to insert your switches, relative information, .cab it, then place your newly cabb'd 7zip into the HFAAO directory. 7-zip installs correctly and right click context menu works as it should.
  9. Hello All! First off, I found HFSLIP, and MSFN for that matter, the just other day and WOW cool software!! Over the past few days I have been looking at the different software one could use to do the same things, and came up with HFSLIP being the choice for me. Probably for the same reasons in being a Linux noob, I found Slackware to be the better choice for one who is used to Windows to start out with, even though a linux expert would give a different distributor as the better one. I know this place isn't for anything linux so I'll get to the point. I'm going to attempt to install drivers for a nforce2 chipset and a 6800GT video card using this HFEXPERT method, on a Windows 2000 o/s. I have no clue about the .inf structure or editing them correctly ( I tried the link on the MSFN Unattended guide, but it's broken ). In trying to correct problems before they happen I run files with parameters just to see if the parameter is going to work. Now the -s switch works for both the chipset drivers and the graphics driver, however the graphics driver always reboots the system after install with the -s switch applied. I have tried the -s /noreboot but that doesn't seem to work. I looked around searching but any of my searches so far brings me back to the MSFM forums on switches, not necessarily nvidia specific. Does anyone know what switch to use to keep it from rebooting with this method? How is this going to affect the install process? Is there any way I can get the graphics driver to install last if I can't keep it from rebooting? A little background on the drivers, the chipset drivers are from ASUS, which are more current than nvidia's drivers. The graphics driver is from the nvidia website version 93.71. As far as editing the nv4_disp.inf file for the graphics drivers, under the [sourceDisksNames] I added the line like Oleg II pointed out so the entry reads this.. [sourceDisksNames] 1 = %VIDEO%,driver.cab,,"I386" 1 = %DiskID1% Now does the 1 in front of the %DiskID1% need to be changed into a 2? All of the [sourceDisksFiles] entries have an = 1 after them that I didn't have to add so I should be good there, but I did find an entry under the ; Localizable Strings entries that reads DiskID1 = "NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP Driver Library Installation Disk 1" Do I need to make another entry here for the new %VIDEO% directory, or is it just an open string for naming? I know it may seem a bit noobish to alot of you here, but I'm trying to understand all this "flying blind", so to speak. Thanks for any suggestions in advance.
  10. Hello I see it's been a while since anyone posted here. Hopefully someone checks. Anywho I have gotten 7-zip to work on the install of Win2k mostly. I'm only having one problem, in trying to make the install Unattended when it gets to the point of installing 7-zip it asks me which directory to install it to with "C:\Program Files\7-Zip" already in the input box, all I have to do is click "OK". So I don't have something configured correctly I just don't know what yet. Incidentally I added the .reg file in the same folder with only the 2 lines that Yzöwl posted and it worked like a charm, the r-click context menu had all the respective options. To give a quick background, I'm using HFSLIP, and I have the 7-zip in .cab format placed in the HFAAO folder. I made the .cab with the nLite Add-On maker, all though it used the actual 7-zip.exe and all the extracted files to make the .cab which I found a bit odd, but without the 7-zip.exe it won't install at all. I looked around the forums and have found a few guides about making add-ons, but didn't find anything really useful, at least that didn't read like Greek to me, or that cited a different program used for making the add-ons and slipstreaming, and knowing that syntax is important I'm looking more for covering HFSLIP and adding 7-zip to the unattended install .iso. I also did find a link to a pre-made 7-zip around the RyanVM pages, but it's for an older version, and the link is dead it's about 1.5 years old. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated, Thanks in advance.

    Hello

Cool, thanks for the info. I see theres a few different ways of going about what I'm trying to accomplish via HFSLIP which I started with, Nlite and plug-ins for it, Windows post install wizard, and RyanVM. In trying to keep focus, because I really have no grasp of how to add my own programs to an install ( 7-zip, Opera, etc..), I'm just reading on the HFSLIP forums atm. After I try and sort out what programs are for doing what, I'll broaden my reading.

    Hello

I was searching around the other day and came across this site linked to Fred Vorck's "Remove IE from Windows 2000 at Install" page. Wow theres a lot of info here. Originally I just wanted updates to be installed post sp4 roll-up, but I found stuff here I was always saying to myself "I wish it could do this" or "man it would be nice if this could be like this instead". Obviously I'm not much of a software engineer, so a big "Thank You!!!" to all the people here writing the software and all the people who moderate this forum, it makes the lives of the other windows users a little nicer. Hello All!
