  1. I too, would love to do that. Can you give details,on how you accomplished this? Also would you be able to add and integrate all new updates that come along later? Thanks. VAN
  2. Sorry for my poor English I think your English is darn good. VAN
  3. Hi OD. I've checked Q1 as you indicated and,I think I'm finally going to learn how to create a Batch file! There's good examples there to help me do this.Wish me luck. Thanks again VAN
  4. Thanks od14r3, I"ve been investigating your suggestions. Q1: I recomend the read of next 2 nivels to your bennefit What is this and, where do I find it? I've tried both ryanvm and nLite without success on my Win XP computer.I think I will reinstall that OS the normal way,and try again later. I just discovered Neowin Auto Patcher XP (304 mb for the May Core) which could also fill the bill for me!My only problem with that is the big 304 mb (I'm on dialup).I'll see if I can find someone to download it on CD for me.Thanks again. VAN
  5. Good morning, As I feared,my posting was too involved for anyone to provide further direction to me.I understand but,can someone address the following 2 queries? Q:If and when I succeed with this,do I need to do the Intermediate and Advanced portions,or can I now Burn the CD as per the nlite Instructions? Q:In the final analysis will all this fit on a CD disk or a DVD disk? I'm a beginner when it comes to this involved stuff, but I have successfully flushed and re-installed my Win XP Pro OS twice before.I can do this again but, what is a real (pita) is to re download all the critical updates that came after the SP2 update pack.I'm on a slow Dialup connection(High speed not availble here).Thanks. VAN
  6. Hi Lingk, Just curious! I have Autopatcher installed on our Win 98se computer myself.I was'nt aware that there is one for Win XP (I have Win XP Pro on my other computer).Where did you download this from? Thanks. VAN
  7. Hi, With the nLite v 1.4 program I've completed the Beginner portion of Unattended XP CD as follows: CD Files for Modification ( temporarely in My Documents) and includes the following(see attachment). I now need detailed info on,what add on Update Pack covering thre period after Windows XP SE2 up until now! and how to integrate it in the above FILE,so I can then (hopefully) re-install our Window XP Pro OS in the Unattended XP CD way ! If and when I succeed with this,do I need to do the Intermediate and Advanced portions,or can I now Burn the CD as per the nlite Instructions? If so,I gather I should be able to re-install th OS just by inserting the newly burned CD ! In the final analysis will all this fit on a CD disk or a DVD disk? Thanks to anyone that can help me with this. VAN
  8. Submix8c, Thank you very much for the nice detailed instructions you provided.Between yours and Soporific's I should now be able to accomplish this task! If not I will be back. Van
  9. Hi Lorraine, I"ll try to sort this out and, maybe get some detailed info on,how you successfully installed this App! Q:Did you get release 2 ? DK,I got v 4.5! Do you mean v 4.5.10 would that be release 2? Q:As I recall I couldn't find a detailed step-by-step tutorial and had to start a thread under my moniker LL028 (that is a zero) same as you. Check it out. I had already seen your Posting before sending mine.In any case Soporific referred you to his Sig,where I had already read all 3 pages. Q:You will need your W98SE CD and a CD burning program.I have all this but,can I do all this on my Win XP computer, without screwing it up?The Win 98se Puter has only 1 working CD Drive. Q:Also there are some instructions right in the opening page to the announcement sophmoric wrote i.e. the thread where he asks for feedback. I was aware of these Instructions "Instructions: extract all the files inside the archive to a separate folder. Add your OS setup cab files to the \Win98 directory. Also add your custom MSBATCH.INF file to this directory if you know what options you are gnerally going to use. If you include an MSBATCH.INF, you have the option of using it, or going with new custom options. Then re-burn the CD using NERO or something similar." QUESTIONS about the above Instructions...... 1-extract all the files inside the archive to a separate folder! Where? I have Win98_UBCD_4.5_Release on a CD Disk now,and Unzipped; or extract in a new created Folder in My Documents ?(In my Win xp Puter). 2-Add your OS setup cab files to the \Win98 directory. Where, and how do I do this? 3-Also add your custom MSBATCH.INF file to this directory if you know what options you are gnerally going to use. If you include an MSBATCH.INF, you have the option of using it, or going with new custom options. How and where do I create this .INF file,so I can "Then re-burn the CD using Nero" If you or anyone else can further help me with this thing,I would forever be grateful (smile).Did I mention I was'nt quick !!! VAN
  10. Thanks Lorraine, I'm checking everything out,and i'll get back to you. VAN
  11. Hi, I'm not quick and I need guidance pls! I'm writing this post on my Win XP Pro computer, because our Win 98se computer is screwed up(Even after I reinstalled the darn thing).I very much want to use the (Win 98-UBCD_4.5 release) which I downloaded on a CD disk. I'm on a dialup connection and 12 mb took a while to download, but I now have it to use anytime. From the looks of it "Unattended" is just what the Doctor ordered for me(Smile)! However, when I unzipped the App,I expected it to install itself with a couple of clicks, like(Auto Patcher v 1.95) which I downloaded 171 mb in about 20 hrs (SMILE).I use it and it'S great. Now I need detailed information how to go about using (Win 98-UBCD_4.5 release). Can anyone guide me ? Thanks in advance. VAN
  12. Man,ECK, You must be some kind of professional typer/typist, to provide such detailed information!!If I tried to provide that kind of detailed information/tips,it would take me a day(Smile).I will keep and use the tips as required, and come back here as needed.Thank you very much. VAN
  13. Thanks eidenk, I think eck has it pretty well covered! VAN
  14. Hi eidenk, It appears that I solved my original problems for now!!We'll see in the next few days, whether that's true or not! I reinstalled Win 98 on top of itself and, then ran SFC again and, this time I was able to extract the missing/deleted files from the Win 98 OS disk! I could'nt believe it,so I ran SFC again and,it completed without any further problems.BTW I finally downloaded the"Autopatcher 98 v 1.95" it took 23 hours over a period of a few days. Now in order to update evrything with it,do I just pop it in the CD drive and,let it do it's thing or what? Thank you and Eck for all your help,I really appreciate it. VAN
  15. Hi eidenk, Regarding your suggestion below: (Quote)Try to extract it from your cabs and copy it into the system folder. I don't seem to have Cab files in C:\Windows! If I do,I'd sure like to know where there hiding? (QUOTE)And don't forget to get NDN. Put the NDN folder in the root dir so if you have a similar problem again, you just need to boot into DOS, either from the HDD or from your Startup floppy (create one if haven't done so) and type C:\ndn\ndn and press enter to have a very handy file manager to do anything you need without needing to type anything complicated. From a previous suggestion,I downloaded both NDN Dos and NDN Windows. When I opened NDN Dos.it just flashed by.So I tried the NDN Windows one and it opened with all kinds of information and for the life of me,I could'nt figure how to use it! I needed far more detailed directions than I could find there! So I finally reinstalled Win 98 and I'm still not out of the woods yet.Can you help further? Thanks. VAN
  16. Hi Eck, Before I reinstalled the Win 98 OS,when I booted up I was getting "VMM32\enable.VXD" missing file and, when I clicked it booting continued normally. That problem is solved now. Also before, when I ran SFC it showed that the 2 following files had been deleted:"Setupx.dll and User.exe"Now,after reinstalling,I'm still missing "Setupx.dll".What exactly do I do now to get it back? (Quote)The solution was to make an AUTOEXEC.BAT file with just one line in it and stick it on a floppy. The line is: SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM Would the above work with my present Win 98 OS?If so,and although that problem is fixed now,we'll keep it on file for future reference? (Quote)If you're talking about the System File Checker thinking you're files are corrupted, that's an erroneous report. If you went ahead and updated Windows Installer to 2.0, Internet Explorer to 6 SP1 and Direct X to 9.0c, those errors would likely disappear, or you could ignore them, or you could let System File Checker replace the files by letting it extract them from your Windows 98 cd which would just replace them with the exact same files but would satisfy System File Checker for some reason. As far as I know all the above were all up to date. When I tried to extract a "Deleted' as per SFC,from my Win 98 CD I always go an error message to the effect that:"File not found, check restore from location"So,that's why I did a reinstall of the OS.As I said before,it fixed 2of 3 problems but, when I again ran SFC,it showed that "Setupx.dll" was still missing and same problem,"can't extract it from Win 98 cd". This other stuff your suggesting is a bit complicated, but if all else fails I'll probably give it a try later! Thanks again. VAN
  17. Hi again ECK, I spent most of yesterday reinstalling Win 98 OS.I finally got it done alright, but what a bit-- that was. This was my first experience doing this.It solved 2of 3 problems that we tried to solve without success in other Postings. It fixed "VMM32\enable.VXD " and "User.exe" files that were missing. It didn't fix the missing "SetupX.dll" one though! Any thoughts on this? BTW I misread the "Unofficial Autopatcher's" v 1.95 Lite version size! I thought it was 70 MB but in fact it's 171 MB. In any case I downloaded 70 MB of it yesterday, while I was working on the Win 98 reinstall. Each day I'll download a bit more of it until I have the whole thing.Thanks. VAN
  18. Thanks for the suggestions ECK, I'm a retired older geezer living on a farm and with no one else having High Speed connections around here, there's not much hope of doing this! Today is the day i'm reinstalling the Win 98se OS on the wife's computer.Hope I'm successful.if not i'll be back for help as they say!!!Thanks for your help. VAN
  19. Hi ECK I agree that would be nice to have, but at 246 mb,that's out of the question with my present Dialup connection! However i might tackle the Lite v 1.95 version which is 70 mb,providing that Softpedia supports "RESUME" downloads that would be attempted by me on different days? What do you think? VAN
  20. Thanks awergh, That is good news.I will be tackling this project in the next few days.Wish me luck ! I've reinstalled my Win XP Pro OS recently with no problems,I hope it will be the same with the Win 98se OS ! Your above comment is well noted.Thanks. VAN
  21. I'm about to re install our Win 98se OS on the wife's computer.I understand that "Unofficial Win 98se service pack 2a" includes all the Windows critical updates up to July 2006 ! If this is correct, that would certainly save a lot of downloading them, with our slow Dialup connection! Can anyone confirm pls? BTW,we already have the above Service Pack on CD.Thanks VAN
  22. Hi again jaclaz, That was a nice speech you made! But you must appreciate that, there is a limit as to how much I want to get in and dirty my hands regarding this stinking problem. As I indicated before,I'm just trying to fix the wife's Puter,so she can go on the Internet and send Emails etc.. I tried the D: as you suggested and that worked (Wow),Next I started typing .... Dir /S * > <<<That character is not available to use on that keyboard(Although it appears on the key itself) Enough is enough,I'm going to reinstall the Win 98 OS on that computer.Pls aadvise on any pitfalls I should watch for when I do this? As I said before I did this before on my main XP computer with no real problem.Thanks. VAN
  23. Hi Eidenk, Thanks for your input,I'll be back to let you know about the above, and how it went. Thanks VAN
  24. Hi Jaclaz, Sorry for the delay in responding,..been busy trying to use tips I received on how to fix my problems with my wifes Win 98 computer. No offence taken from your remark,I appreciate your help. However, when I came to this Forum for help,I expected I would Post my problem and some generous person would provide an easy solution such as a few well placed clicks and VOILÀ, problem solved! Of course I was'nt that lucky.Enough of the moaning on my part for now(smile). I had already gone to the Blaisdel site and that seemed too complicated for me! So,now I tried your new suggestions,like...BOOT FROM THE FLOPPY and type: When it finally booted,I chose "Startup with CD rom support" (That seemed to be where I would finally have to go to get the missing/corrupted files). Further on at the "Command prompt a:\ I typed in the first CODE as you suggested, that is: MD C:\Cabtemp and I got File already exist (Looking good so far,but it did'nt last).Next I typed: D ...and got Bad Command (Dream over)! keep in mind that my Win 98 OS disk was in the D drive! At this point I'm thinking, that it might be simpler to reinstall the Win 98 OS and would that not solve all the existing problems? If so, I would need all the pertinent details on,how to do this correctly. What do you think? Pls note,I've already reinstalled my Win XP Pro OS successfully many times and,it's working great! Thanks for your help. Van
  25. Hi Jaclaz, Sorry if I confused you,I'm doubly confused as nothing seems to work! I'll give you details,on how I arrived at this last question! 1-Started computer with a "Win 98 start up Floppy disk" 2-Chose "Start up with cd Rom support" 3-Further on, At command prompt A:\ typed in" EXT" 4-When it asked"Pls enter the path to the Windows Cab files (a:) :I typed in "D drive" 5-Next,where it said "Pls enter the name of the file you want to extract" : I typed in 'User.exe" (This is one of the 2 I'm looking for) 6-Next it said "Pls enter the path to extract to ("Enter" for current directory) :I clicked Enter thinking it would send the file to C:\ or something, and I got this: Source Path drive File to extract: User.exe Destination path: . (A dot!) Is this ok? (Y/n): I typed Y Next I got "Error: Cannot open file : D Pls note:I got the same error message as per 6 above when I entered " C:\ " as the path to extract to! Hope this is enough info to put me on the right track to fix this thing! Thanks again. VAN
