Sorry for the doubts, but it's a complete change and I'm a bit scared. Anyway I received the same suggestions in other places too, so I guess I'll pass to intel+ati lol. I'm a gamer and I'd like to keep the new pc for the next 5 years, so I guess I'll take a quad if the price isn't too high. The worst problem will be finding a good shop that will give me the possibility to custom assembly the pc (with wisdom). I can install the SO myself plus easy hardware parts, but I've never mounted a Power unit or a mobo, nor I know the compatibility specs. I'll have a look at the shop now and will post the updated list. Thanks for advices
-
Ugh..I saw those components among the last entries in those shops! O_o I'm in Italy, I suppose hardware components arrive as late as the movies here.. Till now I've used AMD+nvidia without problems, are you sure it's good to change completely to an intel+ati? Is it better to go quad core then? (with Windows Xp Pro) -I'll check ASUS P5Q Deluxe or the 790GX. -I'll use a Seagate or Western Digital hdisk then -I'll change the memory to the 800

Hello, my current pc is 5 years old, so I've decided it's time to buy a new one (that could last the same). I see a lot has changed, so I looked for some info on the web. I've compiled a list, according to what I read and found in nearby shops. There are many things I don't know however, for example which graphic card model is the best or if to buy a dual or quad core processor. Can you help me? COMPUTER: (I already have monitor, OS, speakers, main hdisk) 21,60 euros --- 2 years warranty, assembling, spedition 81,60 euros --- ASUS M2N-SLI DELUXE, SOCKET AM2, NFORCE 570 SLI, DDR2, PCI EXPRESS X16, SATA, RAID, DUAL GBL (no idea if this mobo is ok. However I always used an asus with no problems) 93,90 euros --- AMD ATHLON PROCESSOR 64 X2 DUAL CORE 6000 SKT AM2 A 3.0 GHZ, BOXED (works good with winxp pro x86 right? should I buy a quad instead? After an old Pentium60 I'm stick to AMD hehe) 56,90 euros --- COOLER MASTER RC534KKNA, CASE CENTURION 534, TOWER BLACK, NO PSU (this is temporary, I prefer the 590 though, for the many accessible places) 117,90 euros --- POWER UNIT Corsair HX Modular PSU 620W, PCI Express, S-ATA, modular (too much watts? I'll need to attach at least 5 sata cables in future) 37,90 euros --- 2X MEMORY CORSAIR 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 C5 VALUE SELECT, 667 MHZ, CAS 5, 240PIN DIMM, SINGLE 2GB (are the MHZ correct for the mobo? better more memory?) 240,60 euros --- POINT OF VIEW 8800GTS 512MB, PCI EXPRESS 2.0 16X, DVI-I 2X, HDMI, TV-OUT, HDTV (why is the nvidia called pointofview? is the expensive card good for its price?) 139,00 euros --- INTERNAL HARD DISK 3,5'' MAXTOR DIAMONDMAX 22 1TB S-ATA2 300, 7200RPM, 32MB CACHE, 3GB/S (maxtor or samsung? are big hdisk reliable?) 26,90 euros --- DVD +/- BURNER PIONEER DVR-215D BEIGE SATA (I'll wait some more for the blue ray) Total: 910,69 euros What do you think? I'd buy this on CHL, is the price good too?

boot menu for unattended XP dvd with 2 different options
phaolo posted a topic in Multi-Boot CD/DVDs
Hello. I've created an unattended Windows DVD, but I'd like to add a boot menu to select installation type. I need these two options: 1)windowsXp+programs+drivers 2)windowsXp+programs Programs and drivers are installed through RunOnceEx procedure. I read about "diskemu", "cdshell" or MagicIso to enable the multiboots. The problem is that I don't know how exactly.. how do I edit a boot information? Can I use 1 windows folder + 2 boot options or I'll have to double the Win directory? I'd only need 2 different cmdlines.txt pointing to different batch files.. -

boot menu for an already prepared win unattended dvd
phaolo replied to phaolo's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Uh! I discovered that I can do multibootable cd\dvd with my iso program (great app). The problem is that I don't know how exactly.. how do I edit a boot information? I need these two options: 1)windowsXp+apps+drivers 2)windowsXp+apps Can I use 1 windows folder + 2 boot options or I'll have to double the Win directory? I just need 2 different cmdlines.txt pointing to different batch files.. -
I've created an unattended Windows DVD, but I'd like to use "diskemu" or "cdshell" to add a boot menu to select installation with drivers or without them. The problem is..how can I do that if I start with an already-modified dvd? Can I still use Gosh method? (he starts from a clean Windows cd and he modifies setup, not other options) Would also the "recovery console" and "win repair" from dvd stop working?

cmdlines.txt chckdisk, defrag after cleaning temp folders
phaolo replied to phaolo's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Uh, good to know, thanks! But then, should the command work in this way? echo y| chkdsk.exe C: /f /r or this chkdsk.exe C: /f /r --- Does someone know something about the defrag question? -
I read that cmdlines.txt supports only simple commands, but I never found which ones. Should checkdisk work from it with these arguments? echo y| "%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\chkdsk.exe" "%SYSTEMDRIVE%" /f /r I used "echo y|" because I don't know if checkdisk will start normally or it will need an answer at setup T12. If it cannot work I'll call an external batch script, but I would prefer to avoid another file for a single line.. ----- About the temp folders, I'd like to clean them before a defrag in RunOnceEx using these commands (this code is for a batch file): del "%TEMP%\*" /s /q /f del "%SYSTEMROOT%\Temp\*" /s /q /f rd "%SYSTEMROOT%\Temp" /s /q md "%SYSTEMROOT%\Temp" defrag.exe %SYSTEMDRIVE% I added an option to remove\recreate "%SYSTEMROOT%\Temp" to get rid of all empty directories (I'm using it for self-extract archives). The problem is that I don't know if files that will be used on next reboot by some setups will be maintained (are them all locked?). Or can I delete those folders without worries? ----- Can you give me a hint?

But how do I insert the serial silently? Is there a way or can I only manually enable-register the program each time? When all the commercial programs will decide to add good silent switches.. (w Inno Setup for freewares)
-
Thanks for the answers Anyway I'm asking here as I couldn't understand via google results. In the past I've installed ac3filter and 3ivx as I couldn't play some movies. If you say I don't need them anymore I'll just avoid them.
-
That's a fast help really.. lol Anyway I'll post the switches I used for the new directshow 2008 reg add %KEY%\005 /VE /D "codec ffdshow 2008" /f reg add %KEY%\005 /V 1 /D "%PROGDIR%\setup\codffds.exe /sp- /silent /norestart /lang=en /dir=\"%PROGRAMFILES%\Codecs\ffdshow2008 I also have some questions: -Does it still need Ac3 filter? -What is 3ivx? Do I need it too?
-
Thanks for the answers, I'll check hidcon then. Luckly I discovered that I wisely used cmdow in only 6 main batch files and not inside all auto-extracting archives (I created the first cd one year ago). Phew! p.s: ok jaclaz

I'm still using the 7.7 version as I'm too lazy to ugrade. (what's new?) Anyway I must say I love this modified program. The original is oversized and uselessly redundant. Thanks for this jewel

Spybot 1.6 unattended - 1 solution and 2 question
phaolo replied to phaolo's topic in Application Installs
If you are talking about the definition update you just need to add the parameter: /components="!updatedl,!updatew95" Check the complete RunOnceEx code above. It worked good for me. -
Ok that's another one thanks. But which is the best? I need same possibilities as cmdow: -cmdow @ /HID ---->use inside a batch -cmdow /RUN /HID application + parameters ----> from RunOnceEx Plus more possibilities: -wait or nowait attribute -no dos flashing! ciao
-
Hello, I'm searching for a replacement of cmdow.exe for unattended installations as the program cannot completely hid dos windows (they flash and then disappear). A simple update would be great because it would save me the pain to modify many self-extracting archives (they use batch files for the settings) I don't hope in such a miracle, so I found other utilities like: cWnd11 cmdhide.exe RunHiddenConsole.exe NIRCMD.EXE Which one is the best? Before finding bad surprises I'd like an advice.. Can anyone help me?

AutoIt progress bar (steps) from RunOnceEx or batch
phaolo replied to phaolo's topic in Application Installs
You answered all questions in a perfect way! Wow, I didn't know that I could pass commands to cmd.exe.. that is very useful. Also %COMSPEC% is new for me. Now I'll just need to correct minor things (for example a fixed 100 is better than $Max hehe) You helped me a lot MHz, thank you very much. P.S: I found that the Sleep(250) loop causes the program to weight about 3Mb in memory! I've put Sleep(10000) for 300Kb only. I don't think I need small cycles because the script is always killed by the next one. -
Spybot 1.6 unattended - 1 solution and 2 question
phaolo replied to phaolo's topic in Application Installs
Ok, it seems to work good (I wonder why the program requires reboot in a normal setup). It took quite a long time to update though.. maybe because I forgot this IE window opened Thank you chaoticyeshua. -
Searching for unattended Spybot switches I found lot of mess. Well, on the site there is a complete exact list of them! (yess) http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/30.html I tried those on RunOnceEx and they worked perfectly. Here is an example (I didn't write the path variables): reg add %KEY%\005 /VE /D "spybot 016" /f reg add %KEY%\005 /V 1 /D "%CDROM%\Apps\setup\spybot.exe /sp- /silent /norestart /lang=eng /dir=\"%PROGRAMFILES%\Spybot\" /group=\"Spybot\" /components=\"!updatedl,!updatew95\" /tasks=\"launchsdhelper\" /f \" marks nested quotes (runonceex) ! negates the component (spybot) Now my questions: 1-I downloaded the "includes" definitions installer. Can I run them unattended too? 2-I'd like to silently immunize Spybot after the "includes". Can I run the program with the switches even if I didn't restart the computer?

AutoIt progress bar (steps) from RunOnceEx or batch
phaolo replied to phaolo's topic in Application Installs
No, I'm using a simple BAT. I never encountered a behaviour like that before (usually dos never waits automatically). Anyway the "start" option works perfectly with the batch. Just RunOnceEx problem remains, even if it is secondary now. It can only run files and not commands directly, so I can't add the "start" option there. I couldn't test the script from RunOnceEx for that reason. p.s: err, is "_interpreter" just a string, right? -
AutoIt progress bar (steps) from RunOnceEx or batch
phaolo replied to phaolo's topic in Application Installs
Wow the script is perfect that way, thanks! Nice things the "Interpreter" and "infinite while" solutions (I couldn't understand before why that bar disappeared) I still have the second problem though, because I'm running actbar.exe from a batch file. I have to use it as I'm doing registry modifications and various operations. Converting all to a script would be long and full of new errors. Putting it in another script would be a poor solution (multiple files). Anyway, with the batch the execution stops after the first script launch. I don't know why, dos shouldn't wait for program termination normally! (only with start /wait) What the.. ?? I'll add a batch example so you can see the problem. (You won't reach the first pause ) actbar.exe 10 1 pause actbar.exe 10 3 pause actbar.exe 10 6 pause actbar.exe 10 10 -
Hello I'd like to enable a progress bar for some silent installs or tweaks. I don't want to time it, but instead to increase the steps from the code sections (from RunOnceEx or batch files) I thought at Autoit script, but i have some problems: 1- I don't know how to pass parameters to an active script, so I only managed to run again the same script with new parameters. Last one kills all of them.. not a very good solution. 2- ProgressOn and ProgressSet maintain the process bar window opened only if I add a sleep(ms) line. That wouldn't be a problem if only the batch file that launches the script wouldn't wait too! Where do I do wrong? Here is the script. It's a test and I'm not expert, so pardon my programming errors --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If $CMDLINE[0] = 0 Then Exit Else Dim $Max Dim $Counter $Max = $CMDLINE[1] $Counter = $CMDLINE[2] ProgressOn("Status","","") ProgressSet(($Counter/$Max)*100,"","Completed " & ($Counter/$Max)*100 & "%") ; I'd like to avoid this Sleep(2000) If $Counter = $Max Then Sleep(2000) RunWait(@ComSpec & " /c " & 'taskkill /f /im actbar.exe ', "", @SW_HIDE) Exit EndIf EndIf ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Example for the file that launches the script (could be in RunOnceEx too): actbar.exe 10 1 (...some code..) actbar.exe 10 3 (...some code..) actbar.exe 10 6 (...some code..) actbar.exe 10 10

Hello, I have problems with some autoit scripts. They work in normal OS, but they stop at certain points only during RunOnceEx setups. Do you know what could be the error? I've checked if it's due to focus lost, wrong keys or wrong windows names, but all those are correct. Some reduced examples: ------------------------------------- ; launch program blocking focus BlockInput(1) Run("mailw") ; install path WinWaitActive("Choose Destination Location") Send("{ENTER}") ; start menu window close WinWait("MailWasher") If Not WinActive("MailWasher") Then WinActivate("MailWasher") Send("{ALTDOWN}{F4}{ALTUP}") ; finish <---AUTOIT BLOCKS HERE WinWait("Setup Complete") If Not WinActive("Setup Complete") Then WinActivate("Setup Complete") Send("{TAB}{ENTER}") ;resumes user input BlockInput(0) --------------------- ; launch program blocking focus BlockInput(1) Run("codffds") ; license WinWaitActive("ffdshow-20050703 ","License Agreement") Send("{ENTER}") ; avisynth plugin path <---AUTOIT BLOCKS HERE WinWaitActive("ffdshow-20050703","Avisynth plugins directory") Send("{ENTER}") ; install path WinWaitActive("ffdshow-20050703 ","Choose Install Location") Send("{RIGHT}{LEFT}{LEFT}{LEFT}{LEFT}{LEFT}{LEFT}{LEFT}") Send("Codecs\") Send("{TAB}{TAB}{TAB}{ENTER}") ; complete WinWaitActive("ffdshow-20050703 ","Installation Complete") Send("{ENTER}") ;resumes user input BlockInput(0) ---------------------
