I just successfully installed SP2. Everything went great, after download from WU it installed under 10 minutes. I guess it was this fast because I had my Vista fully updated before SP2.

Yeah, but since SP2 also contains all previous updates, on Windows Update it should install only what I'm missing. And, btw I'm using x64 system so it's 567 MB for me.

Yes it's public and on Windows update it's downloading 567,3 MB Shouldn't it be smaller on Windows Update. My system was fully updated before SP2.

OK, but I would strongly suggest that you integrate this update, if you want that your uninstall works properly.

I checked and Italian version is affected. Here is the link.

Using empty CD label should solve the problem. Also, there is one critical update for office which should be slipstreamed, but only for some languages, English for example is not affected.

Yes, you removed the drivers, I used Google Translate to read your preset. Try to insert your original CD and let the wizard searches for drivers on it.

Well, I was just looking mine motherboard temp, and I wouldn't said that everything is great in your case. My motherboard temp is 17C, so comparing your temp to mine, yours is to hot (I think that 18C is to much difference). Also, last motherboard which I had and which started to has that temperature died after a month. Just to mention, that I'm using stock cooling for CPU and there is no any fans attached directly to motherboard. I have 8600 card with active cooling and it's idle around 40-44, so it generates a heat but motherboard is still cool. Maybe, you are not using case fan properly.

You already got you answer. First this is not a bug. Second, you can slipstream SP3 on gold XP disc (never modified and without any SP) and this is recommended so you can have smaller size of your CD. (slipstreaming SP2 and then SP3 will get you only bigger CD size, nothing else). Third, you will need to do a slipstream using XP as I host. This is only necessary for SP3 slipstream. So, do just a slisptream of SP3 and make no any other modification. After that you will have a copy which you can use for further modifications and you can do it under Vista.

Maybe someone can suggest how you can check if it's going bad. I also had problems with slow speed with one disk, which was working perfectly more then a half year on Vista until the problem appeared. It would take 'ages' to do anything. I tried to do a full reinstall of Vista, but installation also went very, very slow and at the end it resulted with some error. I replaced the disk with new and everything works like a charm now, I even managed to recover all data from it, in decent speed, it's like just part of disk went bad. You should do some tests and maybe use Everest to check SMART readings - it will tell you if they are OK.

Well, comparing it to my hard disk performance, which you can see in my signature (320GB) your is very slow.
Mine Disk Sequential 64.0 Read is 89,67MB/s and Disk Random 16.0 Read is 1.96MB/s. Vista score is 5.9. You said in Vista that you had above 4.0, so I think you should get higher test speed. How old your disk is, maybe it's going bad.
BTW, what command did you type to get full test report of your HDD? I had to type every set of switches separately.

Does this support the new 2007 SP2? or does it need to be updated to allow for that?
I did not check, but it should work fine.

No need to create two topics really.

I recommend that for any system running anything besides Vista Home Basic (or Starter) that you have a minimum of 2GB RAM.
I totally agree here. If you can afford it, buy a 2GB of Ram, so you can have 3GB. I also have 3GB and Vista is running very nice.

Since I did not use Win 7 I don't know is your RAM amount enough. I know that for the game, 256 MB of RAM is recommended, but if Win 7 uses same amount of RAM as Vista, then you don't have enough. 1GB is just for running Vista, nothing more, although minimum for Vista is 512. But, this may not be the problem. In my opinion your problem is in drivers for graphic card. In my experience drivers which you get from Microsoft always gives very poor performance. Try updating to latest ATI drivers (they already made drivers for Win 7).

EDIT: It seems that drivers are not available for you card. Try using latest drivers made for Vista. It should work fine.
EDIT2: For the volume problem, try what I showed on screen shot:

Using option "Automatically fix file system errors" is the same as if you would type chkdsk /f. I think I have similar situation, but I just need to wait long before CMD starts to react again, and maybe system is little less responsive.

I'm not 100% sure if this is true what I'll say but I think when you use option "Automatically fix file system errors" (and you can use it only on non system partition without rebooting) Windows need to unmount the partition and than it check for errors. After it finishes it needs to mount it back, so depending on your partition size it may took some time.

I don't understand why do you want to do it. Files will not be modified.

You can do it with using separately WMP11 Slipstreamer. You just need to find out in which order you need to do it so everything works fine. Search on this forum, you should find it. You can also make your personal tweaks and run it on the first logon with batch maybe.

After you are completely finished with nLiteing your disc go here and download the DriverPacks BASE Tool and download DriverPack MassStorage drivers which you will integrate into your disc using the mentioned tool. This should solve your problem. And, do not try to integrate DriverPack MassStorage drivers with nLite, it won't work.

@phryder
nLite does not modify your files. It just removes read only attribute because it is known that it can cause trouble if not removed.

Windows crashes on install made with nLite

I don't see any component removal here. Just some addons are added. Are you sure that you did not use nLite more then once to do changes on your XP files? It is highly recommended that you use nLite just once, and if you want to use it again you need to start from fresh copy, and do everything from begin. Also, I would not recommend using two different software for XP disc. Use only nLite or Almerza Multiset.
