  1. Hmm, unless you have the details for logging into someone else's account I thought that you could only log into your own account (unless you're a moderator or course ) If users had the ability to delete their own account when desired if some people did accidentally delete their own account they could simply sign up for another one. That would remember them to not do it again! arr! Anyway, surely something like that would be placed somewhere in 'My controls' where it would not be easy to make that mistake, and on top of that you'd want the 'are you sure you want to do this' box to pop up so that the mistake could not be easily made.
  2. Thanks gamehead200, I appreciate your comments. Why doesn't MFSN allow the mechanism to be available within 'My Controls' for a member to be able to remove their own registration/username if they want to? I'm just a novice at these things but I know it can be done.
  3. Thanks for moving my post to the right place Martin, however when referring to un-registering from the msfn forums can you please explain what you mean by: Do you mean that: a - there isn't the mechanism within each of our personal 'My controls' to remove/un-register our own registration b - there isn't the mechanism within msfn forums to actually remove/un-register anyone from the msfn forums c - msfn won't anyway even though they can d - msfn don't know how e - something else f - some or all of the above
  4. Christmas and New Year are so very close together, just a week separates them, but which do you enjoy celebrating most? Christmas or New Year?
  5. Simple question: Not that I want to at the moment but can someone tell me how I could UN-REGISTER myself from the MSFN forums if I wanted to? Thanks
  6. Thanks ILuvSnakMachines and Martijn , I'll check them out and try to post back here after.
  7. Thanks Martin. Does anyone have any comments about websites free like bravenet.com? any comments just to get me on the right pathway, it's just that I don't want to go signing up to that sort of website if it's just a waste of time.
  8. What a multitude of response Aren't setting up websites using things like bravenet.com worthwhile?
  9. I am looking to make a website, not necesarily a good website but nevertheless I would like to try and build one I don't have any website building experience and would like to try out one of the free website offers that are available, I'm considering using someone like bravenet.com and was wondering if anyone knows if they are any good or if there are better out there to use? Thanks
  10. ZoneLabs have now released update version 60_667_000 for their security suite which seems to have dealt with this problem.
  11. ringfinger I just tried out Ctrl Alt Print Screen to paste just an active window and it worked lovely me'arty!! seapagan maybe one day they will re-introduce printing direct to the printer alongside the functions which it can perform now
  12. thanks scuzzy47, thanks RJM, I tried out the print screen button with the paint program and it worked perfect! ---------------- p.s. To MSFN who moved this Topic from it's original location due to my starting it in a forum considered by moderators to be the incorrect forum.... Thank you for moving my topic to where it would seem best suited.... Thank you for emailing me to let me know that it had been moved.... Please, next time can you also let me know where you left it!!! I love you all, thank you
  13. I have owned a few computers each with different keyboards, and with each keyboard NEVER have I been able to use the 'Print Screen' button on any of them. I press press press away but never a reaction do I get!!! Why does the 'Print Screen' button never work?
  14. thanks urie, it works every time so far any idea if problems might come from changing its startup method like this?
  15. Hi guys, initially I held back coming here to try and resolve this following problem in order to allow ZoneAlarm some time to fix it, thing is they haven't fixed it so being that I have not found this subject posted here already I'm starting this topic now to see if you guys have any good suggestions which could solve this. This is the problem, I have recently updated my ZA Security Suite to Version 6.0.631.003 but trying to update Anti-Spyware brings up the message 'the anti-spyware update task is not responding'. I've been to the ZoneAlarm message forums and there is a thread http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/board/m...message.id=5452 on this problem with one or two suggestions but they are only temporary and do not fix the problem, one was: 1. Open Zone Alarm 2. Go to Overview and Preferences 3. Under General uncheck "Load ZoneAlarm at start-up" 4. Go to Alerts and Logs/Main/Advanced/Log Archive location, delete the log 5. Reboot After rebooting, start Zonelabs manually, set the "Load ZoneAlarm at start-up" option again and proceed with the update of the Anti-Spyware definitions. I've tried this and it works but only until the next time you want to update when you have to go through the whole process again in order to update. I've been in touch with ZoneLabs who are looking into things and even asked me if I wanted to try out a test beta version which would have involved me uninstalling my present ZoneAlarm software and then installing their test beta software, and when the test was done I would have had to uninstall the beta software and re-install my present software, but I didn't like the idea of my computer being used as a test piece and apart from that my ZA security software runs perfectly at the moment (except for the anti-spyware update) and I had no desire to disturb it! Have any of you guys heard of this and do you know any ways of fixing it? Thanks m8E
  16. Thanks for the reply Astalavista, after your post I have done some searching on CLICK OF DEATH syndrome or COD and found that there are variations of the trouble which is bothering the iomega zip disks and drives. The variation which I described above is not a strict COD because there was no 'clicking' involved and my drive is still in good working order. I also have an external Zip 250 drive too and some 250 disks that were okay up until two of the disks decided to go their own way again without the clicking noises occuring and again the drive is still in good working order. Its possible that the disks have just stopped working, but two at the same time? They were no more than 18 months old at the most! This happened with both of my zip 750 disks and both of my zip 250 disks, and all four disks went awol on a 750 drive. However there is a distinction between the disks and that is I am getting results from using file recovery software on the 750 disks but no results whatsoever on the 250 disks. Here's a suggestion, perhaps zip 250 and 750 disks/drives are easily badly effected by warm temperatures or hot weather? I have been trying to find an answer to the zip disk/drive problem without much success but I did find an interesting piece of information on a CLICK OF DEATH variation on a zip 250 drive: http://siber-sonic.com/mac/Zip250fix.html it describes a repair with pictures on a 250 zip drive after abnormally loud clicks upon disk insertion. Interesting...
  17. Hi dman, will take that into account, I hope a windows 98 computer will make some difference when I try things out on one soon. Thanks jaclaz, I've been through those and found that PC Inspector has done the best job yet of recovering files from my disks although it didn't recover the majority but better than none at all. As for making an image of my disks, I think all of the image software tried recognises my zip drive but I have not yet found one that will actually recognise there is a disk in my zip drive. This is frustrating but I will keep trying.
  18. I have a boot to DOS floppy disk which has now got ‘guest.exe’ and ‘spinrite’ on it too. Booting my computer using this floppy disk starts up in DOS and brings up A:\ as usual, then I type in ‘guest.exe’ or just ‘guest’ and the command is recognised but this comes up: Iomega Guest Driver Version 8.5 Finding a drive letter for your Iomega drive….. No Drive letters were added. I was a bit disappointed after it had not found or added my zip drive, the A:\ was still there afterwards so I typed in ‘spinrite.exe’ and spinrite started up okay, but ‘guest.exe’ didn’t find or add my zip drive even with a good zip disk in it. So in DOS my computer still only finds my A:\ (which is my floppy drive) and B:\ (which is a mystery to me because I don’t know of or use a B:\ anywhere on my computer!), other than that there are no other drives which are found in DOS in my computer, not even my hard drive is found. However, with ‘guest.exe’ now being used maybe there is a way to find my zip drive in DOS perhaps. BrandonS_Mil thanks for your suggestion, I will check that out.
  19. Hi jaclaz thanks for all the advice and links, I went to those websites and downloaded them all. When trying to use the downloads the only ones I found that worked on my computer were PHOTOREC and TESTDISK. The other downloads either couldn't recognise my zip drive or they did not hang around any longer that about 0.5 of a second after starting them for me to even use! TESTDISK did analyse my zip disk in a separate DOS style window and it did find the files which I am trying to recover but I still could not find a way of directly accessing the files on the disk or copying them, so even though I could see my files in the TESTDISK window and I could move around within the window to locate each file I could not access them. After TESTDISK had finished analysing I Saved and then Loaded but this did not provide any access to my files on my zip disk. I did use PHOTOREC which produced very similar results to TESTDISK but with only photo files and the like being found. Hi dman, thanks for that advice, I have booted to DOS using a floppy disk, as usual A:\ came up first of all and then I typed in "guest.exe" whilst a good zip disk was in my zip drive, the response which kept coming up is "Bad command or file name" (btw, is there a proper way to exit DOS to restart my computer?) The SpinRite software which I have is still no closer to be used, so that I don't feel as though I am missing something obvious can someone tell me if there is a standard way in which SpinRite is supposed to be used from a floppy disk? I feel that I am getting closer to recovering my files after the partial success of TESTDISK, this has given me hope, but because I still cannot access my files I am wondering if I have used TESTDISK properly, can someone let me know if they think that my use of TESTDISK so far is good or not so I can develop my use of it further.
  20. Hi dman, When you say zip "guest.exe' are you referring to the files which I already have saved on my zip disk? Also are you saying that if I put my files from my zip disk onto a cd rom and then put the cd rom into my cd drive that DOS should then be able to detect the cd rom? I will check out a cd to see. dman as you can tell your last post had one or two things which I didn't properly understand but I am trying because I have to. As for what I am trying to achieve, I am trying to recover files from two corrupted zip 750 disk which SpinRite is supposed to be able to recover in situations like this, the trouble at the moment is being able to recognise the zip drive in DOS
  21. Hi dman, thanks for the link I may well need it soon! When you say that a zip drive needs usb drivers loaded in order to be recognised do you mean that for DOS or for ordinary computer use? When in ordinary use my computer always recognises the E:\ where the external zip 750 drive is located. The need for booting to DOS to run SpinRite 6.0 is because the SpinRite software is not yet recognising my external zip 750 drive E:\ and so after having been in touch with the makers of the software they said: "After booting to DOS, switch to your Iomega directory. While in the Iomega directory type the standard Zip "Guest" command. Just enter the command: GUEST at the command line prompt. You should see the command talking about finding a drive letter for your drive .... and then it should tell you what it is. Once that's happened, SpinRite will run on the drive after inserting a cartridge into the drive." So after having tried and failed to switch to the Iomega directory in DOS things have come to a stop because the only things that are getting recognised in DOS at the moment are A:\ and B:\
  22. Hi BrandonS_Mil, troubleshooting well sort of, I need to find my E:\ (where my external Iomega Zip 750 Drive is located) in DOS so that the SpinRite 6.0 software that I have can locate it and perform disk recovery on some zip 750 disks.
  23. Thanks for your reply Win2k3EE, I'm not sure but I think that my Windows XP Pro uses NTFS when in ordinary use, but only FAT32 when in DOS, does that sound right or completely wrong! At the moment when I reboot my computer to DOS and try to locate my External Zip 750 drive it isn't getting recognised. Presently my external zip drive is E:\ and is always detectable when ordinarily using my computer, but when rebooting in DOS my zip drive is not recognised, neither is my C:\ (hard drive) or any other drive except A:\ and B:\ (and I don't even use B:\) so can you or anyone out there advise me how I can locate my E:\ (external zip drive) whilst booted into DOS? Thanks
  24. Using XP Pro, When booting to DOS using a floppy disk would it be better to have an NTFS or FAT32 system for recognising my external Iomega Zip 750 drive in DOS?
  25. I use an Iomega Zip 750 external drive with Iomega Zip 750 disks on Windows Xp Pro. The disks are not overly used, about 18 months old, and stored in a separate cupboard away from electrical influences, although the drive itself is in close proximity to a monitor and a scanner. Within the last week 2 of my Zip 750 disks have slowly and gradually decided not to respond properly because when I insert them into the zip drive the disk continues to whir inside the drive without stopping, I have even left the disk in the drive to see if it would settle and stop only to return 15 minutes later to find no change whatsoever and the disk still whirring in the drive! Initially when this problem began nearly a week ago the disk merely took it's time to open a window however it has gradually developed to the point now where I put the disk into the drive and the disk simply takes no action other than to whir in the drive without stopping or responding. At this point my computer still seems to operate okay until I left or right click on the zip drive icon and then my computer system acts as though there has been a crash and just stops and no further action can be taken on my computer. No left or right clicking is possible at this point even though the mouse still moves around, so the only thing to do at this point is to press the eject button on the zip drive which ejects the disk, then things return to normal on my computer and I restart to be sure. This trouble does not happen with my other zip 750 disks, only these 2 disks react this way. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone, and is this a problem that I can fix? p.s. I'm not sure if I begun this thread in the right place so if I didn't can someone tell me which part of the forum it should be in and I'll re-do it there, thanks.
