  1. Thanks for replying, Martin H. I found them exactly where you said. Just one last question. I noticed that the one's I was inquiring about, under 'name' & 'type', it only stated Default & REG_SZ, respectively. Nothing else was listed. Where as the other ones, that seemed to have been recorder, had another line under 'name' - 'Description' & 'type - REG_SZ & under 'data' - 'Security update for windows xp' or some such, with the KB listed. So does this difference mean anything? Should I worry about it? Anything I can do to fix it? Thanks again for your help, Eddie
  2. I had a list of 'hot fixes', using Belarc Advisor as a basis and reviewing / augmenting that list with the 'hot fixes sticky' and of course using the windows update site to ensure I had everything. I just did a new CD. Everything worked great. From what I could tell there were no problems. Afterwords I visited the windows update site and it said I needed two updates, KB917344 & KB928843. Hmmm. Well no problem, I downloaded and installed. I ran Belarc Advisor, and here is where my real question begins. I had 'slipstreamed' 8 hot fixes that did not show up on Belarc Advisor after the installation. Is this an issue with 'Belarc Advisor'? If, I assume that I needed these '8' based on my research, AND, if I assume that nlite did install these 8, because windows updates did not ask to install them again. Then, well, that's my question. Is there a way to look into my computer and see that 'all' hot fixes, were in fact, installer? The eight missing: kb873339, 885836, 886185, 887472, 888302, 891781, 911564, 923789. Thanks in advance for any guidance, Eddie LAST_SESSION.INI
  3. Wondering why Windows Defender no longer wants to install. It has in the past. As an FYI, I used the 'Weed' one. Don't know if it matters but I replaced KB892130 with Kel's Bare WGA v1.7.36.0 & I replaced KB905474 with RVMaddons WGA v1.7.18.1.7. When I say it didn't install, I mean when I did the virtual PC thing. It does, of course, install on my computer. Using nlite 1.3.5. I have checked 'skip oobe'. Don't remember if I left 'unchecked' the Windows Activation and Sysprep in the 'Compatibility' area. On maybe a separate issue, even though it does install, I get a pop up, something like: c:\windows\system32\dot net framework.cmd, or there abouts. I have to close it before the virtual machine can continue. This occurs after the "display OK" thing at the very end. Thanks in advance for any guidance, Eddie Quick Note: The reason I was doing a new 'iso' was because I just found out that the 'key' I was using to make these nlite cd's was the 'coa' one, on the side of the computer. Thus, I assume, the reason that I had to get a 'new' product activation every time. Windows Defender would install just fine on those versions. I now am trying to make a new 'iso' with the 'oem' key in the winnt.sif. Maybe that is affecting the Windows Defender thing. Thanks again LAST_SESSION.INI
  4. Thanks for your reply, Ponch "Yes. Are you skeptical?" Well, I am a newbie. And it has taken me some time to understand these things. As a for instance, take my learning how to use the nlite add on maker. This is an international forum and we use English to communicate. In the instructions/directions on how to use it, it first says to get the 'archive' and place it in its own folder. Well, I had an 'exe', so I made an 'archive' with IZarc and placed it in its own folder. There my problems began. It was only much later, and many tries, and many many virtual pc's later, that I figured out that when the "writer" used the word 'achieve', he was referring to the 'exe'. Once I corrected my mistake, the nlite add on maker program was very easy to use and worked great. Anyway, thanks Ponch. I will proceed with my original plan. Thanks again, Eddie
  5. Looking for a little guidance / info regarding driver integration. I have two drivers that I want to integrate. One ‘audio’ & one video. They were on my ‘driver’ CD, but I was able to get them from Dell’s website. I put them in their own separate folders, uncompressed the ‘exe’s, and saw that they indeed had ‘.inf’ files. I looked at the ‘original’ nlite program guide, and on the ‘Driver’ tab, it appears that all you have to do is ‘select’ the ‘inf’ files from these two ‘drivers’ and it will then integrate them into my CD. FYI, the video driver actually has two ‘inf’ files ( I selected both ) and the Audio driver has ‘four’, two in an “SE” folder and two in an “W2k_XP” folder, ( I selected one from each folder ). Question is, is that all I need to do? Reason, I ask, is I was looking at the ‘Unattended Guide’, and also the “Unattended Windows Discussion & Support / Device Drivers forum“, and there are all these different ways of doing this same thing. Only with more steps involved - read that, more complicated. So I’m a little confused. I ran a virtual pc because I was also testing the last of my unattended applications that I had made and also because I figured out how to add the ’registry tweaks’ to the $OEM$ thing. But, as I have read here before, you can’t tell on a virtual pc if the drivers have been slipstreamed/installed. I also have an ‘Intel’ chipset - system driver - but it doesn’t have an ‘inf’ file so I will just install it after I have reformatted. Thanks in advance for any guidance, Eddie
  6. I just created a new “CD-RW†nlite installation CD. But I forgot to put a check mark on the ‘Windows Activation’ box in that first ‘components’ screen. I assume, as usual, that I will still need to activate ’windows’. Does anyone know if the following article works (I edited it to 'try' make it smaller): Users who reformat their hard drive and perform a clean installation of the operating system will find that they need to reactivate the product. But, as long as the new installation is on the same system and there won't be any hardware changes it is possible to transfer the existing product activation and skip having to go through the product activation process again. Follow the steps below to save the activation status information and restore it once your system is rebuilt: Go to C:\Windows\System32 folder - Find the files "wpa.dbl" and "wpa.bak" and copy them to a safe location. After you have reinstalled Windows XP on your reformatted hard drive, click "No" when asked if you want to go ahead and go through the activation process. Reboot your computer into SafeMode Go to the C:\Windows\System32 folder -- Find the file "wpa.dbl" and "wpa.bak" (if it exists) and rename them to "wpadbl.new" and "wpabak.new" Copy your original "wpa.dbl" and "wpa.bak" files into the C:\Windows\System32 folder Restart your system Your Windows XP operating system is now reinstalled on your reformatted hard drive and you are all activated without having to actually go through the product activation process! Remember though. This won't work for transferring activation information from one computer to another or if you alter the hardware because the information contained in your "wpa.dbl" file will not match the configuration of the computer. This trick is only for reinstalling Windows XP on the exact same computer after formatting the hard drive. Original article: http://netsecurity.about.com/od/windowsxp/...qtwinxp0829.htm I don’t really want to make a new ‘CD’, but if I have to so be it. Thanks in advance for any guidance, Eddie Just an FYI: I either did it wrong or it didn't work. Had to call 1-888 MS
  7. Please excluse my ignorance. It took me a little bit to figure out, but I used the "CreateurSFX" program and created what appear to be 'switchless' installer programs. I was able to click on these new 'exe' and they installed the programs on my working computer. Very very fast, I might add. Wow. Now my question. Sorry, but where do I put them when I go to make a new nlite cd? Do they go with the rest of my 'hot fixes & addon's'? Would, of course, like to test on a virtual pc before I burn a new cd. Thanks, Eddie Never mine. I used the nlite add on maker with these switchless installers to make my 'cabs'. Then used the virtual pc and they worked great. Thanks everyone. Project complete! Thanks again.
  8. What am I doing wrong? I am trying to create some “unattended - NO USER INTERACTION - silent†installs, and their not working? Currently I have “19†programs that install “unattended - with no user interactionâ€. The only one that “I†actually made, AND, that worked, was an Email notification program called “PopPeeperâ€, which ‘CMENU’, v2.6, identified as “Nullsoft†with a silent install of: Setup.exe /S . I used the Nlite addon maker, v1.2.4.2006, with the 7-zip, v4.42 & Izarc, v3.7. I used my windows xp pro + sp2 + hot fixes CD to create my ‘ISO’ using Nlite 1.3.04 & used the Virtual Box PC, v1.3.6 to test. According to ‘Cmenu’, they are “WISE†installations. This is what I tried as ‘unattended silent‘ installers: Printkey2000 http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,...escription.html FavOrg version 1.4 http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Book...rs/favorg.shtml Printkey2000 Setup.exe & Fav Icon’s Setup.exe : PrintKey2000 Setup.exe /s “PrintKey2000 Setup.exe†/s -- This gave a 7-zip config failed error PrintKey2000 Setup.exe /S Setup.exe /S Printkey2000_Setup.exe /S Printkey2000.exe /sp- /very silent -- Unpacked using Universal Extractor v1.5 Fav Icon's Setup.exe /x Fav Icon's Setup.exe /s Fav Icon’s_Setup.exe /S Setup.exe /S The “USSF†switch finder suggested an alternate, -- /x “x:\dirname†-- but when I tried that I got one of those 7-zip config failed error’s for both Print key & Fav Icon‘s. On a related note, when I create an ‘cab’, it is “always†twice as big? Don’t understand that. Example, Printkey2000 Setup.exe is 564kb, Printkey2000 Setup.7z IZArc 7z Archive is 561kb, Printkey2000.cab IZArc CAB Archive becomes 1,189kb; Fav Icon’s = 380kb, after archive = 375kb, and after cab, expands to 813kb. And yes, the “exe’s†are in an empty / separate folder when I create the ‘archive’s using 7-zip. After rereading the guidelines, I noticed that someone noted that you can unpack a ‘cab’ that you created to see if it would silently install. I did that with the two “cab’s†that I had “unpacked†and they seemed to work. But when I tried them in a virtual pc, they stalled out the virtual pc at the T13 time line and I had to shut it down. The one’s that I don’t unpack, will start the installation process. To be sure, there are different “silent installers that ‘cmenu’ suggests“, when you ‘unpack’ an ‘exe’ versus when you don’t unpack. Several of these methods will ‘install’ the programs, but ‘require’ user interface. I would appreciate anyone’s input and suggestions. Thanks in advance, Eddie Never mine. I was able to use a 'switchless installer' program, createurSFX, in combination with the nlite add on maker. I tested it with a virtual pc and it worked great. This is a great program. Project complete. Thanks again, Eddie
  9. Great! It worked! Unattended and silent. Just what I was looking for. Thanks John Doe. Couple of questions if I may. Just wondering. My original ‘exe’, aawsepersonal.exe, was 4.62MB’s, the cab I created, that would work, but would not install ’unattended‘, was 7.447MB’s, and your cab, that worked great, was 4.876MB’s. ??? And, more to the point. Is this cab making business, just way to complicated for the average person? Was there some little something that I wasn’t doing? Or maybe the nlite add on maker just wouldn’t work for this particular application? Again, thanks Have a great day, Eddie
  10. What am I doing wrong? I am trying to create some “unattended - NO USER INTERACTION - silent” installs, and their not working? For the record, I have the following “19” programs that install “unattended - with no user interaction - & silently” : Adobe Flash Player 9.0.28, Adobe Flash Installer, Adobe Reader 7.0.9 lite, AVG 7.5.463, cCleaner 1.39.502, Deep Burner Free 1.8, ImgBurn 2.3.2, Java 6 update 1, Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer 2007, PopPeeper, Spybot 1.4, Spyware Blaster, Tiny Spell 1.5.012, UPHclean, Weather Watcher 5.6.22, Windows Defender, WMP 11.0.5721, XnView 1.90.3, XP-Anti Spy 3.96.4 The only one that “I” actually made, AND, that worked, was an Email notification program called “PopPeeper”, which ‘CMENU’, v2.6, identified as “Nullsoft” with a silent install of: Setup.exe /S . Since I had three programs that I was interested in, I tried each “set” at the same time, making a different “ISO“ each time. According to ‘Cmenu’, they were all “WISE” installations. This is what I tried as ‘unattended silent‘ installers: Adaware SE Personal - since old ‘cab’ has a bug: aawsepersonal.exe /silent Setup.exe /S aawsepersonal_Setup.exe /S “aawsepersonal.exe” /S -- This gave a 7-zip config failed error aawsepersonal.exe /s Printkey2000 http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,...escription.html FavOrg version 1.4 http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Book...rs/favorg.shtml Printkey2000 Setup.exe & Fav Icon’s Setup.exe : same basic setup’s as above with obvious ‘necessary’ changes: PrintKey2000 Setup.exe /s “PrintKey2000 Setup.exe” /s -- This gave a 7-zip config failed error PrintKey2000 Setup.exe /S Setup.exe /S Printkey2000_Setup.exe /S Printkey2000.exe /sp- /very silent -- Unpacked using Universal Extractor v1.5 -- This stalled out the virtual machine at the T-13 timeline and never recovered, had to shut it down Fav Icon's Setup.exe /x Fav Icon's Setup.exe /s Fav Icon’s_Setup.exe / S Setup.exe /S The “USSF” switch finder suggested an alternate, -- /x “x:\dirname” -- but when I tried that I got one of those 7-zip config failed error’s for both Print key & Fav Icon‘s. Several of these methods will ‘install’ the programs, but ‘require’ user interface. I would appreciate anyone’s input and suggestions. Thanks in advance, Eddie PS: I asked at the Applications forum, but could not resolve. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=96573
  11. While these various ways did work in the sense that they would install, during the T-13 time frame, they don’t install “unattended”. Which is what I am going for. So, if I used the word “silent” incorrectly here, I apologize. For the record, I have the following “19” programs that install “unattended & silently” : Adobe Flash Player 9.0.28, Adobe Flash Installer, Adobe Reader 7.0.9 lite, AVG 7.5.463, cCleaner 1.39.502, Deep Burner Free 1.8, ImgBurn 2.3.2, Java 6 update 1, Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer 2007, PopPeeper, Spybot 1.4, Spyware Blaster, Tiny Spell 1.5.012, UPHclean, Weather Watcher 5.6.22, Windows Defender, WMP 11.0.5721, XnView 1.90.3, XP-Anti Spy 3.96.4 The only one that “I” actually made, AND, that worked, was the one for “PopPeeper”, which ‘CMENU’, v2.6, identified as “Nullsoft” with a silent install of: Setup.exe /S . I appreciate everyone’s input and suggestions, but sometimes, I guess, its just not meant to be. In addition, I would like to note that before I found Nlite, it would take me about 7 hours to reformat. Installing Windows XP Pro SP1 + SP2 + Windows Updates + All my programs + All my music + setting everything back the way I wanted it. This whole process now takes less then 2 & one-half hours. I know some people here do it a lot faster, but for me, this is great. Thanks again, Eddie PS: Sorry for the long post
  12. Thanks for the assist, Ver Greeneyes. But both of these programs are old. I know that this stuff is not a perfect world. As a for instance. My AdAware SE Personal program quit updating. It developed a recent bug. AdAware fixed it, so, of course I wanted to make a ‘cab’ for the new “.exe” (“aawsepersonal.exe”), for the 'next time'. I went to “wiki” ( http://www.uawiki.org/doku.php?id=silent_a...re_se_personal), it stated it was a ‘Wise’ installer and gave me the silent install of: aawsepersonal.exe /silent . When I used it in the virtual PC, there I was clicking “next, next, next, etc. Not a true ‘silent’ install. I then used the cmenu program and told it that it was a wise installer and it came back with: aawsepersonal.exe /s . I haven’t tried that one yet. And then there is the PEID thingy, that gives info as : Microsoft Visual C++6.0[Overlay], whatever that means. Anyway, I'm just not that knowledgeable, so I'll leave to you experts to fix these kind of things. Thanks again for the assist, Eddie
  13. Thanks for your assistance, MHz. Sorry the links didn’t work. The reference to “/whatever” , was not meant as a ‘switch’ but rather what “should” it be or what ‘additional‘ switch did I need to insert. When I used Cmenu, it I.D. the ‘silent’ installer as maybe: PrintKey2000 Setup.exe /s . Since that didn’t ‘completely’ work, I was looking for other options. I have used the nlite addon maker program to make some cab’s in the past and they have worked. But with these two I could not get them to “silently” install. They ‘would’ install, just not ‘silently’. Thus my inquiry. I really appreciate your efforts, however, as previously stated, the “Autoit” stuff is just way over my head. Thank you anyway for going above and beyond, Eddie http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,...escription.html http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Book...rs/favorg.shtml
  14. Thanks Radix & Kiki, for the info. I had tried various combinations (/s, /S, /Silent, /qn), but none worked. I guess its just not meant to be. I had already seen most of those links, and they didn’t give me any additional insight. Thanks any way, Radix & Kiki Burgh Eddie
  15. I'm new at this. I was able to create an nlite unattended install and it worked great. I created a slipstreamed CD with xp pro + Hot Fixes + 19 add-on's + tweaks etc. Just wanting to learn a little more for next time. So I'm looking for a little assistance. I have two programs that I would like to create add on’s for. I used the ‘cmenu’ program and it told me that they were using ‘Wise’ installers which require a Setup.exe /S switch. I used the ‘nlite addon maker’ and created the addons. My question is that when I used them in the virtual pc, it went to install them, but it asked to click next, next, next, etc. Not what I would call a true ‘silent’ install. Is there another command that I can include that will truly make it a silent install. Like “Setup.exe /S /whatever. I tried to figure out the autoit script stuff, but that is sooo far over my head. LOL Printkey2000 http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,...escription.html FavOrg version 1.4 http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Book...rs/favorg.shtml Thanks in advance, Eddie
  16. Per attached, hopefully someone can make an updated ‘add-on’ for this product. Thanks in advance, Eddie http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6132_102-0.htm...2455131#2455131 http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6132_102-0.htm...2455138#2455138
  17. I just did an unattended install last week. The computer is working great. I just have one question. I installed Belarc Advisor a couple of days ago, and it states that the 'virus protection is unknown'. I did slipstream the AVG program and it appears to be working correctly, as far as one can tell about these things. Are there any 'known' issues or maybe I disabled something I shouldn't have? Is there someway to fix it. I have not tried to uninstall AVG and install something else to see if Belarc would discover "that" program. I have run scheduled 'scans' with the AVG program and have it set to scan my emails, and Belarc does list AVG, (Grisoft) in the list of software versions. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Eddie
  18. I'm new at this. I was able to create an nlite unattended install and it worked great. I created a slipstreamed CD with xp pro + Hot Fixes + 15 add-on's + tweaks etc. Just wanting to learn a little more for next time. So I'm looking for a little assistance. I actually have two questions. First question, I have two programs that I would like to create add on’s for. I used the ‘cmenu’ program and it told me that they were using ‘Wise’ installers which require a Setup.exe /S switch. I used the ‘nlite addon maker’ and created the addons. My question is that when I used them in the virtual pc, it went to install them, but it asked to click next, next, etc. Not what I would call a true ‘silent’ install. Is there another command that I can include that will truly make it a silent install. Like “Setup.exe /S /whatever. Second question. I have read on this forum that you can only integrate ‘drivers’ if they have an ‘.inf’ file in them. Well, I have a ‘system-intel’ driver and a ‘audio’ driver and they don’t have an ‘.inf’ file in them. Can I use the nlite add on maker and add them as add on’s to the hot fixes folder? They are both ‘install shield’ . When I ran the ‘Cmenu’ program it suggested the following: To silently install, use: setup.exe /s /v"/qn" Thanks in advance, Eddie Just an update: I was using the nlite add on maker incorrectly. All you needed to do was put your "exe" in a separate folder, find your 'silent install switch', start nlite add on maker, point to your 'exe', insert switch and away you go. Works great. Regarding driver integration, using the 'driver tab' on nlite and pointing to your drivers, that contain an 'inf' file, and then 'inserting the 'inf' files, is all you need to do and they will install correctly. That's it. The end. Eddie
  19. Using nlite 1.3 final, I added Adobe Reader 8.0 cab, among others. During the virtual Box PC test, Adobe came up as needing a repair install. I clicked Ok, next, etc. and it installed. Is this normal? I was doing the 'unattended' install and, in the past, it has only stopped for me to click "next" on the computer name screen, (I don't know why it stops here either, since I always put in a name in advance), and then it hasn't stopped until I got to the 'desktop' screen. I also installed the windows defender, which though it came up as an error for trying to 'update', I assume this is ok, since during the virtual your not connected to the Internet. Thanks in advance, Eddie
  20. After a number of attempts I was successful in making an slipstream of my windows xp pro + sp2 + Hot fixes + some add on’s ( Adobe Reader 7.08, AdAware, AVG 7.5, Ccleaner, Deep Burner, IMG Burn, Spybot, Spyware Blaster, Tiny Spell, Weather Watcher, Windows Media Player 11). For whatever reason, I was unable to get the integration of the cab’s for Java, windows defender ( do have the windows installer 3.1v2 & WGA in my Hot Fixes) or Adobe Reader 8.0 to work. Using Windows XP Pro & Internet Explorer 6, when I next attempt a slipstream, I would like to add any one or all of the following. Sorry for the long post. 21. Thanks for everyones input. I could not stand the fuzziness so I reformatted back the "old" way, one 'cd' at a time. The display now looks normal to me. The crt was purchased Nov 2003 and the refresh rate is at its default setting of 85Hz. Was the nlite slipstream an issue? I don't know. However, as previously mentioned, with the nlite slipstream, on initial boot, the display "welcome" screen 'appeared' as if in 'safe mode' until I installed the video driver. With the 'regular' reformat, the initial "welcome" screen 'appeared' normal. The computer is working fine and I'm happy. Was just looking for a little better way, but for me, for whatever reason, the nlite slipstream just didn't work out. Thanks again, Eddie
  22. Thanks for your help. I'm sorry I wasn't as clear as I should have been. The problem really showed itself at first 'welcome' screen after I slipstreamed. The 'display' was as if I was in 'safe mode', without the 'safe mode' at the four corners of the screen. After I installed the video driver, the 'display' was normal. I then proceeded to install the rest of my "drivers", and went on with the rest of the reinstallation. It didn't take long before I noticed that the display on everything wasn't as sharp as I was used too. A little fuzzy. And since I don't exactly know what 'clear' is, I did a Google search on 'clear', no I don't have it set. I have a regular 17" crt monitor. Just a note, when I have done a reformat before, with just using my windows xp pro cd, the display was normal from the very beginning, even before I installed the video driver. Hmmm. Could there be an issue with slipstreaming some of the windows updates. I have done a slipstream with sp2 before, using an 'other' method, and everything turned out ok. And yes I used a windows xp pro cd & sp2 cd along with my windows updates to do a new slipstream with nlite. Thanks again for any suggestions you can provide. Eddie
  23. Thanks in advance for any assistance. I slipstreamed windows xp pro + sp2 + current windows updates + 7 add on's (Ccleaner, Deep Burner, IMG Burn, Spybot, Spyware Blaster and Tiny Spell) using latest nlite program. I used a virtual box and all seemed well. I burned the ISO with IMG Burn. Formatted with this 'new' cd. Everything went great. No problems, except display doesn't look sharp. I didn't have any 'monitor' problems before I slipstreamed so I can't believe its the monitor. Don't really want to 'reformat' again, don't it the old way with separate installs of everything. Any idea's or suggestions, Thanks, Eddie
  24. Thanks for the help. I used a program called DeepBurner to burn the iso. It was very easy to use this program vs what I was trying to do before. I reformatted using this 'new' nlite iso created cd. The computer seems to be working fine. I only have a couple of follow up questions. Even though I used microsoft virtual pc and it said everything was fine, when I installed it, some files did not copy. There were '8' "xptht..d.jpg" "type" files that did not copy. I assume no big deal, since they are only "jpg" files. There was a "xpsp3res.dll" that it said did not copy, but when I 'searched' my computer after I finished everything there were actually "three" of these files on my computer, so again, I guess its not an issue. And, there were two others that did not copy, xptht25w.htm & xptht33w.htm. I have no idea what these are. Don't know if I should worry about these two or not. So then the real questions: Is it really worth while to try using the "virtual pc", since it didn't find a problem. AND, is this 'normal' for some files not to copy over, or do I need a different "burner" program. I realize some other burners were suggested, but "DeepBurner" was highly regarded on the Cnet download web site, and it was "very" easy to use. Thanks in advance, Eddie PS: I did try the sfc /scannow thing but it didn't help any.
