  1. Thanks for the help guys, but I did say I wasn’t very knowledgeable. Just so you know, I had already tried to slipstream sp3 rc1 and the video, modem and network drivers. On first boot, I installed my system driver. After doing the various things that we do before going on line, I connected to the ‘Internet’. Where upon, I ran into numerous disconnect ’errors’ from my browser. I went back to a previous disc with sp3, without the integration of my drivers, after first boot, installed my drivers and everything worked perfectly. The issue I believe is that the “system” driver has to be installed first, otherwise there are issues. With your help, here’s what I have done so far. I ran ’DriverGrabber’, and it located, and created, eight driver folders, with their respective ‘.inf’, ‘.cat’, etc. files. So if I go this route, “Option One” if you will, do I just start nlite, and when I get to the ’driver’ integration portion, just point it to those ’.inf’ for each driver? Do I need to ‘select’ for integration , these drivers in any special order or rename each folder before I start the process, such as ‘000_System, 001_Video, etc. “AND”, frankly, I don’t see which one, if any, is my “system driver”? “AND”, is what is contained in these folders “all” I need? Meaning, I don’t see the ‘Setup.exe‘, for example, in these folders? Or, is this info in these folders supposed to be added to my ‘regular’ driver folders, so that nlite can do its thing with these ‘inf’s? Or do I go with “Option Two”. That being, I extracted my ‘system driver’ to its own folder, I deleted from this folder, the ‘.cat’ folders for win98, win2000, winme, (don’t know if these steps were necessary), and kept the winxp folder that contained the ‘.cat’ files for ICH4core.cat, ICH4ide.cat, ICH4usb.cat and the 845g.cat. I located, in the C:\WINDOWS\inf folder, 845G.INF, ICH4CORE.INF, ICH4IDE.INF, ICH4USB.INF, oem0.inf and I copied same into this ‘system driver folder’. I assume that I select the ‘oem0.inf’ as the ‘real’ “.inf” for this folder for nlite driver integration? And, if this is the way to go, then I repeat my previous question: Do I need to ‘select’ for integration , these drivers in any special order or rename each folder before I start the process, such as ‘000_System, 001_Video, etc Or maybe, Option Three, since, maybe I now have the “.inf’s”, maybe follow the older guidelines from the ‘Unattended Guide’, http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/35/ Sorry for such a long post, just trying to get it right. Unfortunately you can’t “see/figure” anything out by using a virtual pc like virtual box. Thanks again for your help, Eddie DriverGrabber.txt
  2. Sooooooooo, it can't be done. Well that's a bit of a surprise! Thanks for the suggestion, BikinDutchman, but as you know, we're now moving from an sp1 environment to an sp3 rc1 scenario. Thanks again, Eddie
  3. So, since I don't have an ".inf", does that mean there is no way to slipstream my system driver unattended, along with the rest of my drivers?
  4. Thanks for replying, BikinDutchman. The version number that you gave me is 'SO' different, v8.4.0.1016. Is this a one size fits all thing? As I stated I'm not very experienced. And also, when I run nlite, will it just 'know' to install this 'system driver' first and then the rest? I will, of course, load them on the driver page in their proper order. Thanks again for your help. Eddie
  5. Appreciate if someone could give me some guidance. The “Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility Driver” for my computer, Dell Dimension 2350, v4.04.1007, A11, windows xp pro, doesn't have an ‘inf’, at least none that I can detect. I did see one in the C:\WINDOWS\inf folder, but its 'not' in the 'Intel driver folder'. Since it needs to be installed first, I can’t slipstream the rest of my drivers. The audio, modem, network & video drivers all have an ‘inf’ which I can easily add to driver section of the nlite program. I did a search but didn't find anything, if I missed it I apologize. I'm still a 'noob', so hopefully if someone has a suggestion it will be nothing to complicated. Thanks in advance, Eddie
  6. Have a look here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=90779 This procedure works. I used it. Hope this helps. Eddie
  7. Thanks guys, problem resolved. Yes, I forgot the "1" in $1. And yes the $OEM$ folder is the correct place to place the "My Downloads" folder. And I learned that I really didn't want to slipstream my 1Gig of music. Even though it worked, it added 10 minutes to the process. But the installation completed fine this morning. Everything works. Used the new nlite 1.4 final and their were no problems. I'll remember that part about 'a picture is worth a thousand words'. Great program. Thanks again, Eddie
  8. Don't understand what might have gone wrong. I had recently read a post on how to create a $1 folder, so I did that, and put "My Downloads" folder and My Documents folder inside "My Downloads" folder and made a new CD, using nlite 1.4 and it worked great, no problems. Than I read another post about the fact that we're 'now' using DVDs, so space is really no longer an issue. So I said, well, why not transfer the "My Music" folder as well. So again, I created my folders: $OEM$\$\My Downloads and inside the My Downloads folder again I included the My Documents folder and this time added the "My Music" folder. Didn't work. While it shows up on my finished ISO and the CD that I burned with IMGburn, it didn't show up on my computer. The only thing that I did change, overall that is, is I added the new nlite 1.4+runtimes from one of rado354's addon's. Which, by the way, installed without any problems. Outside of this issue, the install worked without a hitch. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Eddie LAST_SESSION.INI
  9. Thanks for the suggestions. While I was looking for shortcut.exe with Google, I came across a free download program called xp shortcuts.exe, from: http://downloads.zdnet.com/download.aspx?&...mp;promo=100511 Of course I had to sign up for a free membership, which I will probably unsubscribe to pretty soon. Anyway, you execute this program and it automatically puts the desktop icons I want. I can change, if I want, the icons to suit my needs by going to windows/system32/shell32.dll. I tried the batch file thing, but as you preconceived, I really didn't know how to do it. Anyway, problem resolved. Thanks again, Eddie
  10. One of the things I like to do is put a restart icon & power down icon on my desktop, using the following procedure: Create a shortcut (Right-click on desktop, select New > Shortcut) -- For location, type : shutdown -r -t 0 Click Next, enter a name for the shortcut -- Restart -- click Finish. Create a shortcut (Right-click on desktop, select New > Shortcut) -- For location, type: shutdown -s -t 0 Click Next, enter a name for the shortcut -- Power Down -- click Finish Apply necessary “Icon’s” Is there, by any chance, a registy tweak that can do the same. thanks in advance, Eddie
  11. So, maybe a corrupt download of nlite program or of sp2. Maybe uninstall nlite. Get a fresh copy, reinstall and try again. Also, I assume you do have '.Netframework 2' installed. nlite needs it. Just some thoughts.
  12. I'm sorry, I guess I can't help you. I just have one more question for you. You say that you downloaded it. Great. This is where you stop. Don't launch it. Do click on the exe to being the install. This is where you start nlite and to have it slipstream. But maybe I don't get it. Maybe your telling me that it launches automatically, in which case that is a different problem.
  13. Are you getting the sp2 exe from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en If so, than you can select to save to your computer and "not" install. You may also want to save this 'sp2' to a 'CD' for later use if necessary so that you don't have to redownload again, its over 266MB's after all.
  14. I'm not sure what all your doing, however, you download the sp2 and save it to a file on your computer. Example, C:\sp2. When you start nlite and it asks for the file, just point it to this "C:\sp2". Thats it. You don't need to do all those other things that your doing. Hope this is clear if not post back. Good luck, Eddie
  15. Maybe I missed it, but if not a request on a future nLite, couple of things that I do: Right click Task Bar / Properties / Taskbar tab - put a check mark on “show Quick Launch” - Start Menu tab / Customize -- Uncheck “Show on Start Menu” Internet & E-Mail -- Advanced tab - Start Menu Items - Uncheck = Manufacture Links - Click OK / Apply / OK Thanks by the way, "GREAT" program. Eddie PS: I no longer use a 'virtual box' to test cause they always work. Thanks again.
  16. I'm not an 'expert', however, I do about 30 add on's, that for the most part get slipstreamed - installed - during this 'T-13' time frame. Naturally the more you have, the longer it will take, but mine do install, even though it may 'hesitate' during this T-13 time frame. Of course the overall 'size' of all of these add on's will make a difference also. My add on's total about 300MB's. Hope that answers your question, Eddie
  17. There’s an old saying that goes something like: “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” The point being, as both of us have pointed out, yes there is already a lengthy thread in “Application Installs”, BUT, sometimes things become dated. As, for instance, the very first listing on that thread is for 7zip, with this info: Switch: -y /q /r:n -- Full syntax: 7Zip.exe -y /q /r:n -- Extraction needed: ? This post is dated December 23, 2003. Frankly, I don’t know if those ‘switches’ still work. I do know that the switch that I listed, using ‘Cmenu’ as a source, /S, works, today. This is for a program that has been around for quite some time now, with a ‘lot‘ of previous versions since then. What I am really hoping for, is that some ‘sticky’ could be created, by the powers that be, that would list the ‘switches’, similar to what I have posted, in alphabetical order. And just be periodically updated, versus people going through ‘11’ pages hoping to find what their looking for. If one performs a search, looking for a particular switch, you will find gobs of pages that will lead you anywhere and everywhere, and still maybe not find what your looking for. The reason I posted on this ‘nLite’ forum, is because its dedicated to using nLite. The ‘application installs’ forum, is not. Thus the various listings with ‘code’ etc. When you come to the ‘Application add-ons’ forum, you see a sticky from ‘rado354’ with “310” cabs, in alphabetical order - very nice, a sticky from ‘ZcWorld’ with over ‘150’ and if you check out ‘johndoe74’, there’s some ‘193’. These guys, among others I’m sure, are doing a great job. But, as I mentioned in my first post, new software ‘updates’ come out all the time. If the switches, previously found by these experts, were posted and kept updated, some folks, like myself, could make their own cabs on the fly. A case in point, ‘johndoe74’ made a cab for ‘Spybot Search and Destroy v1.5‘, September 21, 2007. To be sure, his cab is great, it gets rid of ‘TeaTimer’, Automatically immunizes the system, etc. But we’re now at version 1.5.1.17 Beta. While someone might not want to install a ‘beta’, still others will, and the switch that I posted -- /verysilent /SP- /components=main,skins -- that I found in those ‘11’ pages -- will work. Granted it has ‘teatimer and doesn’t do some of the things that “johndoe74’s” “older” cab will, but it will ‘silently install’. Now this is probably a poor example because this is a ‘special’ cab, and there is probably not a single string of switches, but probably includes code, repacking, etc., but I think you get where I’m coming from. I’m sure a lot of these ‘software programs’ just have some ‘maybe “not” so simple’ switches, such as “AVG Free” -- /HIDE /DONT_START_APPS /NO_WELCOME /NO_AVGW_STARTUP /QUIT_IF_INSTALLED -- that if know, could help us all out. Not saying these guys should quit making cabs, far from it, but if one of my favorite programs had an update today, and I was planning on making a new CD today, it would be great if I could incorporate this ‘new’ software, immediately. In closing, sometimes I help family and friends fix their computers, and its 'nice' when I can take a 'newer' program, that will quickly and silently install on their computers. Especially one that is still on dial-up. LOL. This post is already way too long, thanks for replying, Arie, Eddie
  18. Just thought I would share and a request. As we all know there are new versions of our favorite programs coming out all the time. If you know the silent installer ‘switch’ you can make a new ‘add-on / cab’ yourself and be good to go. I use programs like “Cmenu.exe & CreateurSFX.exe“, to identify the installers “switch/s”. Sometimes you need the “ Universal Extractor” and or a ’zip’ program to open the file so that you can get to the ‘real’ setup.exe. And I use the nLite Add-on Maker to make my cabs. Sometimes, as in my example below with the AVG Free anti-virus program, the switches are way to complicated for us average users. This is when we’re glad that there are some experts around that we can turn to, to make some add-on’s for us. (When I use ‘cmenu.exe’ for AVG, I get a /s switch, but of course that wasn’t even close.) Anyway, a request for those making “add-on’s” for us, if they would put the “switch/s” somewhere where we could find them, like in the ‘Entries’ or when they post back with a ‘Release’, that would be “GREAT”. 1-Click Answers -- /S 7zip 4.56 Beta -- /S Adobe Flash Player 9.0.64.0 RC -- /silent Adobe Shockwave Player 10.2r23 --10.2.0.023 -- /silent -- Get ’slim’ version http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/ Test: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/ AVG 7.5Free_503a1171.exe -- /HIDE /DONT_START_APPS /NO_WELCOME /NO_AVGW_STARTUP/QUIT_IF_INSTALLED Boot Skin -- /S Ccleaner 2.01.507 -- /S -- Get ‘slim’ version - without toolbar Deep Burner Free 1.8.224 -- /quiet FavOrg -- /S IeSpell 2.5.1 build 106 -- /S IZArc 3.8.1_1550 -- /VERYSILENT /SP- Java 6 update 3 -- /s /v /qn McAfee Site Advisor 1.7 -- /S Nlite 1.4.rc2 -- /sp- /very silent Pop Peeper 3.0.1 -- /S Printkey2000 -- /S Spybot 1.5.1.17 -- /verysilent /SP- /components=main,skins Spyware Blaster v3.5.1 -- 71008.7z /very silent Weather Watcher 5.6.24a -- /sp- /verysilent XnView 1.91.6 -- /VERYSILENT If you are “testing”, you may want to do the following, additional steps to uninstall a program: Step # 1. Win + R / regedit - click - Hkey _ local _ machine _ Software _ Microsoft _ Windows _ Current Version _ click plus sign _ for uninstall -- all the programs installed on your computer are listed, scroll and see if the program you want to get rid of is on the list…if it is right click on it and delete it. Step # 2. Boot into ‘Safe Mode’ - In ‘safe mode’, click on “My Computer” - Explore - C:\ program files - click on the folder of the program you want to delete from your computer and delete it. Then click on the common files folder and see if it is in there and if it is delete it. When finished, reboot back into normal mode. Sometimes, if your having problems uninstalling a program, it is best to uninstall via its ‘own’ uninstaller versus the ‘control panel/add and remove programs. You can reinstall the program and then use its uninstaller. If anyone wants to post some programs with their ‘switches’ that would be great. I do understand that there is already a lengthy thread, here: http://www.msfn.org/board/Application_Swit...ons_t12657.html. Just a suggestion. Sorry for the long post Have a good day, Eddie PS: I have about ten other add-on’s, but like, Zone Alarm 7.0.408 -- /s /noreboot, & Ad Aware 2007 7.0.2.3 - /quiet , while they will install, they do not totally install silently, therefore I did not list them above.
  19. I tried /S for a silent installer. Though it does install, it is not silent. I get several popup screens. If you can suggest another silent installer I will try that, knowing that this "version" changes on a somewhat regular basis. Thanks in advance, Eddie http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
  20. Freeware version please. http://www.cowonamerica.com/download/ Thanks in advance, Eddie Well, it seems I didn't do a very good search, found instructions here by radix: http://www.msfn.org/board/Jetaudio_703_VX_...725#entry688725 In short, here is what you do: Jet Audio Put the “Jet Audio installer“, the ‘.exe’, in its on folder Run the original installer from Start->Run->Browse...In start->run, it should look like this: "C:\Jet Audio\JAD7_BASIC.exe" /r Click ‘OK’ and it will start the installation process, make whatever selections you want and the program will then finish the installation. This will create an answer file in %windir%, file named “setup.iss” Extract all files from installer, “exe”, using “Universal Extractor” -- When you get a ‘prompt‘ from ‘Universal Extractor‘, select “isxunpack extraction“. You will first see “Disk 1” -- Open this “Disk 1” folder and put all of “these” files in their own ’individual’ folder Copy setup.iss into this “new” folder that you created. Use nlite add on maker and use these switches to make your cab: /s /sms
  21. eddie what wmp addon are u using? I have been using the same one for some time now, its rado354's. The thing is that I see it, the progress bar, during the T-13 time frame, but it doesn't install. So I just open the cab afterwords and use the silent installer to install. Yesterday, I went to 'Sharks' site and made an add on with his msi. So I might try that the next time. On a related note, I thought I read somewhere that there might be an issue with slipstreaming this sp3 beta & wmp 11!! Hmmm. The reference to speed burning was that, as been previously noted before on this forum, if the speed is to high, one might have issues. I originally did at 48x. This last time I burned at 12x. Maybe needs to be at a slower speed still. Anyway, thanks for any input, Boooggy. Eddie
  22. Worked fine for me. The only thing that didn't install was my wmp 11 add on. Maybe it was the speed that I burned the CD. The other 27 odd add ons installed without issue. Eddie LAST_SESSION.INI
  23. I had dotNet 2.0 on my computer and I wanted to learn how to do a silent install of dotNet 3.0. I looked around and found the silent install switches for “2.0” --- /q:a /c:install /l /q --- so I looked for “3.0” to download and see if I could use the same switches to make a cab for “3.0”. Don’t ask how, but I was doing a Google search and somehow stumbled across: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Beta 2, here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en I said what the heck, normally I don’t want to mess with a ‘beta’ but I just wanted to learn how to make a cab. And I really didn’t expect it to work the first time anyway. I downloaded the “dotNetFx35setup.exe” 2.6MB file, used the nlite addon maker to make my cab. The ’switches’ worked, the cab was made and after I uninstalled ’2.0’, I used the ‘cab’ to begin the installation of ‘3.5‘. Based on observation and keeping tabs of task manager and event viewer, it took 17 minutes to install on my windows xp pro. Nothing else was happening while this was taking place. The reason for my post, is ‘what’ was installed. According to ‘add & remove programs’, the previous “2.0” was 88.36MB’s. That’s all. This “3.5” installed the following: Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 -- 186.00MB Microsoft .Net Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 -- 167.00MB Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 (Pre-Release Version) -- 24.59MB MSXML 6.0 Parser (KB927977) -- 1.53MB Wow! I didn’t expect that. Since this was all installed together, I assume I need it all. Maybe some of you experts know how to ‘repackage’ this and make a cab that doesn’t install all of this. If its not ‘all’ needed, that is? I didn’t test this on a ‘virtual pc’, but I assume it would have installed correctly, since it did install silently on my computer. Maybe I shouldn’t assume. LOL. Anyway, that’s it. The end. Sorry for the long post. Eddie
  24. I have an existing nlite CD. I went to update it and could not find the current version of Spyware Blaster in the I386/SVCPack folder so that I could remove it. Although I know its on the CD as it was previously installed. I went ahead and added to my 'hot fixes' folder as usual. Where is it located so that I may remove the old one and install the updated version. Thanks in advance, Eddie I am using this version from here: http://www.wincert.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=274
