Can there be Setup modification project? like 98Lite?
lama replied to lama's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
OK, I found a nice information on MSBATCH.INF file from microsoft techNet (HERE) basically you can add many registry settings, modify any files inside Windows folder, and Root folder (ex msdos.sys disable all LOGs etc and inside Windows, modify important files so there is 2GB support (RAM) etc) Registry tweaks are also possible.... Now INF and all can be integrated easily... use WINRAR to find all the INF files inside cabs and then extract particular CAB, add extra INFs and rebuild CABs This is definately not that HARD... so, I'm still wondering why such thing was never made? though I'm doing many thing as of now... -
Can there be Setup modification project? like 98Lite?

...To this day we still have a paradox: This is 2009 and there are certainly many things discovered of W98 (patches for newly discovered problems exist). There are new ways to integrate drivers (software like Driver Magician show basics of such if nLite doesn't to you). 4.7 maybe the last but if we consider adding current available patches (USBz, INFs, default VGA drvs etc) there can still be 4.8 of current date Can you elaborate about 4.8? All I have is a provisional 4.8 that literally has bugs in it if you want to just not address the SLEEK V2 situation. Unless you are attempting to do that [which doesn't even fully work] it is a step backwards for all of the other situations that work perfectly fine, as long as you are willing to apply all of my variant steps, etc. Or are you merely suggesting there could theoretically a 4.8 version that could work [based on a lot of hand-waving]?cjl ps: Another SLEEK paradox: The Recycle Bin empties really, really fast underl SLEEK. All other ways to run 98 up are really slow, especially if you have multiple partitions. Well, you guys have given up already (which doesn't change much of what I've said). If you're trying to tell me that you're stuck, right then... I'm not arguing you're not or something In my eyes, its cool to make something like nLite (integration of INF, un-official stuff etc). This is rather solid way to keep and grow W98 community such as this one... Unless you're suggesting nothing should be done and no one is interested in it (the poll has good results on that one) I admit its a "hard" job but "doable" -

Best way to setup a stable win98se running eviroment
lama replied to zzrich's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
In my opinion, the only way to make something stable is to modify setup.... don't know who can do it... (see here) -
98Lite is a fine example but it was shutdown by shane (reasons are obvious) but instead of creating post installation updates, patches, INF, projects, is it NOT easy to modify installation setup files? Something like nLite? that gives option to integrate different official, unofficial patches, modified INF files, drivers? etc into setup files? This method saves lots of time of an average user going thorough @#$%& "reading!!!!" I look at MDGx's pages at beginning then I scroll till the bottom of the page (to see how much information I've to read) then, I quit and get lost and leave the entire purpose of me being here... (which is install 98) why? I would go crazy if I've to read so much... I did installations of W98 so many times but going through this, its just too much . If guys can create unofficial SPx, they can surely create nLite-like package that installs their SPs before installations (into CABs or something)

Thanks although, I love MDGx! If these files were kept there, I would be happy I can't find that powerpack 5 either (found 4 though)... EDIT: It appears that some files are for Russian OS? hmmm btw, mdgx, I did send you pm long back (didn't get any replies)

I cannot download anything from rapidshare and proxy is something we are forced to use MDGx doesn't respond or have mirrors

So, I guess no one had success with sound after putting in external PCI sound card on modern motherboards right??? I'm also assuming that HD cannot be fully switched off from BIOS? Is USB sound card the answer to these type of problem(s)? Once again, I continue to wait for a positive confirmed feedback...

Hello there people, After years of trying and failing to install w98 on this Dell of mine, I've just decided to buy a new PC but don't know any successful combination (gfx. snd, Proc, ram, mobo, etc). I read the first page of this thread topic and somewhere, I read "VIA and SIS" being the nice people... however I'm pretty much new to "New stuff of 2008" Can anyone give me name/model of things I've to buy from outside which is 9x+XP+VIST+Hackintosh compatible??? Thanks in advance EDIT: I remember making W98 install 25 mb with all drivers installed and running at super speed! I didn't see this since AGES! I'm really missing this low energy super pc setting can't take it anymore after seeing vista

I'm having lots of BSODs and my gutt feeling says my Dell's OEM CD may be the reason or nLite not importing important dell settings and drivers from Original OEM OS cd! The other thing i realized is that nLite is NOT making us run the Setup with our unattended settings (serial, user, tweaks etc etc) if we run under following condition: 1. Executing WINNT32.EXE from i386 folder on hard disk (through Windows) 2. Executing WinNT.EXE from DOS by the way, they are ofcourse being run from the modded i386 folder! I hope this very important and main issues get fixed in Final of 1.3!!! I mean common! I don't have to burn the ISO image created by nLite to install OS on my hard disk!!! I will want to generally compile a winLite project, run the setup from harddisk and install Windows! can't we save a little energy and our enviornment by wasting less CDs and power and a dollar by making things perfect??? The installation procedure used by Winnt32.exe and Winnt.exe should also be modded by nLite otherwise they become useless stupid error making EXE burden ;D I anxiously wait for the mighty knight of nLite to fix arse mine >
