  1. I have it on my PC and I got Office 10. Anyhow it is fixed so far. Wait until Windows 10 gets another monkey up it's a** though.
  2. I did this and think I fixed it. Add an Allowed App through Controlled Folder Access in Windows Defender Security Center. One of things I added was something related to Office called: OIS.exe and then I went to my picture and did an edit and saved it as normal. What a hassel to take a week to figure this out! There is a tutorial here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/113430-add-remove-allowed-apps-controlled-folder-access-windows-10-a.html I had to add chkdsk to this list so I could check external hard drives for errors because my chkdsk would not complete. Now, can I scream?
  3. Wow, worked for me, fantastic, spent so much time on this too. Worked right away as soon as I turned this off.
  4. I am not running any antivirus software, just defender. I am running these computers clean. Note that I have a laptop and desktop with Windows 10 and neither one of these computers will do a chkdsk driveletter: /f /r on these external drives. Tried 3 drives on two different Windows 10 computers with the same result. And the result is: An unspecified error occurred (Random numbers) Also I have tested these drives before and they had no bad sectors. I then put a date on them when I scanned them so I am not worried about if the drives are good. They read good. I am just wondering why Windows 10 gives these messages and my Windows 7 does not and does the full scan. So I guess that rules that out. Ok, I just tried something else. I can do a chkdsk D: which is the external drive letter but when I add a switch like /r or /f or both is when I get this error message in the dos window. So something is prevented Win 10 from letting me use the switch on these mechanical drives.
  5. Just tried three other drives on the same computer. A 1 TB, a 250 GB and a 320 GB drive with same results. There must be a way of checking an external hard drive on Windows 10 so I can dump my Windows 7 computer. I am talking about the chkdsk command not a hd utility.
  6. Just did it on my Windows 10 without the /r and still the same message. I even tried the /x command. I have tried it in both cmd programs, admin and normal. I also tried it in all my powershell programs and same result. Windows 7 runs it as normal and smooth. Try to YouTube this problem, no one can address this problem. I haven't tried it in Windows 10 safe mode and I shouldn't have to. What I have to keep a Windows 7 computer around so I can do a chkdsk of hard drives?
  7. I am in Windows 10. Ya know the most corrupt OS ever built. Can't even do a chkdsk on external HDs on this stupid OS. My Win 7 will though. Anyhow I have a zillion pictures so I want them all to be editable. Some though I have no problem, cropping and then saving or any editing. Some that I have worked with before now cannot be edited. I used to have these pictures on my Windows 7 computer. Copied them to my external, put them on Windows 10 and now I have issues. What is wrong with Microsoft? I don't have the time or knowledge to fix their OS, I mean Service.
  8. I get this message on my computer with Windows 10 when I try to dock a hard drive in my EZ-Dock and I do a Chkdsk D: /f /r The number (766f6c756d652e63 3f1) is different than the one that you see in the title of this topic though. Anyhow I get this on all my chkdsks of any hard drive I check. Could not figure out how to fix this problem and read somewhere that it may be Windows 10. I took it to my Windows 7 computer and it completely runs normal and goes thru the 5 steps of chkdsk. If anyone wants to lemme know what's going on then it will help others. I do all my Windows 10 Pro updates. Got an i-5 Quad with a SSD and 12 GB of ram on this Dell Optiplex so that's my specs. Anyone know what's going on?
  9. The pictures I have had for years I cannot edit. I can save them to my desktop and the computer does not argue with that. I had the pictures on Windows 7 and now I have 10 and these photos cannot be edited at all. The message is this when I try to do any kind of edit. "This .jpg already exists and is read only. You can save the file with another name or to another location" Anyhow when I right clicked on the jpeg it does not have a checkmark in the Read only box but Windows says it is read only. Never had any issues with these .jpgs before. I was getting the same message with some .docs that were created in Word as well. If I hit Don't save then the no editing has happened and the photo closes. I am opening them with Microsoft Office 2010 Picture Manager. Don't know why this is happening. Note: I just opened this one jpeg in Paint and added a caption and it did save that. I then opened it in Microsoft Office 2010 Picture Manager and did a simple crop to see if I could save it and got the same stupid error message. So I had to hit Don't Save again. But whatever I did in Paint it was on the image though. Last edited by jonnyb; Today at 02:22 PM.
  10. Yes I did click on Temporary files and it brought up another screen with all the MB or GBs it also showed in Disk Cleanup. You can check them and Remove Files from this screen. I am doing that now. I will check Disk Cleanup to see if they were cleaned in the Clean Up System Files catagory as well. ---------Yes it did, just checked that and it killed a bunch of files there listed as Update Cleanup. Tell me, you think the normal person is going to figure this out? I am a computer guy studying Windows 10 and I had to Google it and ask in Forums to find this out. I don't know why Microsoft thinks everybody in the universe knows this stuff, can find this stuff, even knows how to look for answers, even knows that there are two ways to cleanup these unwanted files. All people I deal with would have no clues about this. KrAZy!
  11. But does Update Cleanup get cleaned out in Storage Sense? My guess is no. That's why I use Disk Cleanup and then click on Clean up system files. Nobody will answer this properly I have found. There must be a hidden society that can answer all questions.
  12. The new Windows 10 control panel (I guess they call it that) has a cleanup under System>> Storage>> Configure Storage Sense>> Free Up Space Now. I was told to only do this for a disk clean up and not go to the hard drive properties>> Disk Cleanup or Disk Cleanup >> Clean Up System files. Anyhow that's how I like to do it because I can watch it run. So the other day on my PC I went to the disk clean up and Clean up System Files and ran it. It showed I had several gigs of Update stuff that I could of deleted. Anyhow I did not let it continue but instead went to the New Control Panel and ran the Storage Sense instead. I then went back to "hard drive System Clean up" and ran it again. This showed more files to delete. I figured it would be all zeros but it wasn't. Which would be the proper way to run this disk clean up in anyone's opinion? Why doesn't the new Storage Sense clean everything out? So now we have two Control Panels and we have two Disk Clean ups. Getting a little tired of it all. I work with clients that want answers and I have to answer them as best as I can. They look at me like I'm crazy, lying or don't know what I am talking about. Anyhow I got two questions in this post so maybe someone will have an answer that I can deal with.
  13. Could McAfee really cause this issue? I am afraid to keep my self open even for a few seconds.
  14. Using Chrome and Edge when attaching a file attachment in an email (I use Yahoo mail and Gmail) my attachments show up in the popup box as normal but the icons are white boxes. After that I get a frozen computer. It doesn't happen all the time but it does happen most of the time. Normally the attachment box pops up and shows Word, Excel, PP or PDF in their normal colors. When this happens my attachments attach normally. Only when they show up white is when I get the crash. I then have to shut down Chrome or Edge and start all over with the email and then trying the attachment. On Edge when I hit the paperclip for attachment the Task Manager loads File Picker UI. On Chrome when I attach, the Task Manager does not show File Picker UI but CTF Loader is activated more. So this is Windows 10 and it only happens on one of my many computers using Mcafee. All have been updated to version 1903 and all of these are just using Windows Defender. Any takers on this one?
  15. On 4/1/14 I just downloaded the new interface of Malwarebytes and did an update and scan. It found this trojan.fakeAV and it shows in the AppData folder is where it resides and is called Toolbar AcceptRate.exe So what is this and why did it come in from a antispyware company? BTW. Just did three computers in the past 1/2 hour and the same thing came up on all three. I got the program from FileHippo. And this ain't any April Fools Joke. This means that it came in from Malwarebytes.
  16. Went out an bought a 24" screen flat panel and plugged that into the dock and everything is alright now and is customizable. Some of these D630s also have the Intel Crestline graphics cards too. I guess they are better than the Nvidia Quatro.
  17. If you are speaking in code then others have to read your reply over and over again to understand it. It actually makes a person look like he can't spell or write a correct sentence. If a person cannot write a complete understandable question or can't spell then others will not take them seriously. I try my best to write correctly and sometimes I read my writings again and see that I have left out words or spelled words wrong. I then feel that I have misled someone because of how I wrongly used words and feel like a clown. Anyhow I am not complaining but I just read your reply three times to understand it. I don't have that kind of time.
  18. XP as I said and it worked 7 also, but do not know if it works for 7Home-Edition and I did´n try @ Vista @ all but it is treated yourself to have a try R U Speaking in code?
  19. Is this with XP, Vista and Windows 7 this control userpasswords2 ???
  20. forjonny, you are a sponsor. Ok, I'm a sponsor. Do you think they will not show up now? Let me try some key words: computer, linksys, symantec, netgear, apple, router, charter, verizon. Let's see what happens now.
  21. I did not put these advertisement popups on my posts so where did they come from? The site itself? I don't appreciate that because I hate these annoying popouts more than anything and I don't want to be a part of them. I did not write my post to include them.
  22. My wife had just switched her duplicate laptop in the dock and I was on the one with one username instead of two. She has a back up laptop that is the same model. So I had a little issue with getting the two screens to do what I wanted but the username thing is no longer a part of this post. Different computer. Anyhow I extended the screen to the extra monitor and was able to manipulate it. It was stuck on 640x480 and would no go any higher.
  23. With a Latitude D630 and a docking station I have an extra monitor. The Latitude has it's own resolution which I can change but the extra monitor stays at 640X800 or whatever Safe Mode gives you. I can pull the slider to higher resolutions but when I apply it then it snaps back to 640x480. I had another monitor on it last week and this monitor did whatever I wanted it to do. The video card is the Nvidia Quadro on the laptop. Why won't the resolution stay even up to 1024x768?
