  1. PLEASE HELP ANYONE!!! Somehow, don't ask how, i downloaded something (in chinese no less) and this cute something (called sohu.com) replaced it's search engine for msn.com now i get chinese answers for my searches, it has the same nastiness as lop.com, except that because it's in chinese i can't find the remove file. I've done HD and registry searches, to no avail. Does anyone have an ideas, short of reformating, (there's a reset internet search site, under search/preferences - again no result) please anyone
  2. Who said anything 'bout wawa am just trying to install the patch and it won't work for the life of me oh well, if everyone is so thin skinned, might as well reformat and go for my free and trusted mandrake 8.2 and pay up 70 bucks for star office, if i feel like getting the latest version and cream it winex for linux and have my cake and eat it too. sorry guys by the way have any of you seen the latest sweet talking letter from msoft to registered owner telling us to pay up now for future updates or have to buy full programs 'cuz there won't be upgrades, well i have and it ain't pretty at all. mostly when a whole bunch of moola is involved and you get less than 6 weeks to pay up or else, makes you think three times 'bout wawa think again DREW
  3. no candu this is the step that integrates the patch onto the main install file too simple an answer, try again
  4. Them I followed, and the error ALWAYS pops rite after step 4 - #4 I also found: URL DISABLED..-Mod[/color:6931a6cfbc] which has almost verbatim the same set of instructions. any other clues Thanks

All I get is the following message upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program yada yada yada which is hocus pocus, 'cuz i got the rite files stuck in the same directory Help anyone Uruguay

    explorer error

continuation from previous. if repairing IE is what you have in mind, I don't believe there is any option under windows, the only real one is the ugliest one (yup, fdisk, yikes) I don't even believe that sfc is up to this job, sfc will look into windows own files not IE. and even repairing with the install disk will not do the trick (being there done that, reformatted rite after)

    explorer error

That it resets, yup, but if you look carefully, the homepage is the least of the resets, that's why it asks if you want to reset it you can chose no. but that doesn't stop resetting IE. That's why it's under program/reset and not under the main page for the home page selection. What would be the use to have a program reset that only resets a url address?
  9. Can you read that cd in the burner, or not even there. Is this on a single type of burning or on ALL burning? Does your session complete successfully with the save or not? describe your entries prior to burning (what selections and also your setup under files/preferences Also are you by chance try to overburn? Let's start here
  10. Have you tried closing the session? if you chose multisession, only your cd burner will read the cd. no other drive will unless it's a burner,

  13. I've got Creative Platinum 5.1 (with the connectors on the front of the computer), Am trying to connect it to my Harman Kardon receiver, but get no voice. From the SPDIF digital out of the computer, I plugged it into either the coax or rca (digital cable) My receiver keeps telling me "no data" from either connections. I've enabled the Digital out in sound control/advanced - nothing doing. from the back of the soundcard there's an analog digital mini-stereo out, connected it via a ministereo/rca to the regular input of the receiver - again no sound from the same out connected a ministereo/rca digital to the digital in of the receiver, again failure Creative says i may have an irq conflict and to replace the card in another slot, because sometimes the sound loops. Before using the screwdriver I checked the irq and lo and behold the sound card is alone on irq 17 Any creative ideas out there?

Thanks, phew, thought you were really serious a) no help, message is only for F1 to resume, no post errors or beeps, nada just that, and no it aint the battery or the cmos, those a pretty fine, i know cuz few days ago had the same thing and after the usual fdisk and reinstall it cleared up just like acne after puberty (if only windoze could mature like us) b)sound is aok, just the silly icon, which i normally use to control the volume of the system, although i have a dolby analog receiver hanging around and if i can get away from all this formatting and get the time to get a minijack-to-bare cables in order to plug them i can do away with silly icons. meantime at every load i press F1 and then controlpanel/sounds remove the show icon then apply then rekey show icon/apply , sigh! c) rollback, dunno, don't trust windoze sfc to do a proper job of reloading without screwing up, i am really not up to testing another or bill g's little toys, not to mention unbootable cd's with new os's actually i am keen to believe one of the ini's is probably sick, most likely boot, because some other programs that are in the win aren't loading either, (am not at home now, but does msconfig work in xp? don't think so, but have other sharewares that do tell me what's suppose to load and task manager is telling me - no dice) thanks for the time and the leads, as they say invention is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration

Thanks to Reverend y'day, i was able to get the machine to power off. I also ran sfc/scannow, which on first instance didn't run, then it did, however i have 2 nagging problems now a) I keep getting the "F1 to resume" on post screen - usually it's keyboard related but in this case it isn't (once before it took FDISK to get over it) so it must be a boot.ini or other corrupted file, which one? can anyone help? I also have the case of the disappearing speaker icon in the tray.Although it's properly ticked in ControlPanel/Sounds it won't load at startup. Again this is a deja vu and it needed a full reinstall - which i sorta don't feel like it now. c)after the sfc/scannow it seems that it completely corrupted my soundblaster setup which needs to be removed and reinstalled, sigh! Anyone has any really fast fast fast (yeah rite! - what's fast fast with windoze) answer, much much appreciated.

I got it to work (actually more like pushed and shoved and begged and lord knows what else) by omitting the spaces For some pathetic reason it sorta went thru the motions. I reran it a sec ago and this time it didn't ask for anything but then again without the space between the sfc and the slash it wouldn't even blink, So try it both ways with a space or without, good luck,

I know am being horrendous bug, but your idea of sfc /scannow seems to wanna work, but (sorry there's always one) for some pathetic reason, it refuses to see the cd in the drives (have 2, external usb + internal ) or tells me wrong cd from install and then loops. the autorun works fine, about to give up Thanks for your patience

Reverend - Only one word 'THANKS' So far you're batting 1000. Now as a result of this, I'm getting a keyboard error message at boot: "Press F1 to continue" There's nothing wrong with the keyboard. Had the same thing a few days ago, and the only way I got rid of it was with 2 simples files FDISK + FORMAT C - which truthfully I do not wish to go thru again Am sure there's a corrupted something, and not necessarily in the BIOS. Am stomped and a bit down Any ideas? - Would appreciate the uplift Thanks for any answer
