  1. The reason you have low framerates in halo, is because as soon as anything starts to use dx9/dx8(as halo does), fx just dies. IIRC, halo defaulted to ps/vs1.1 on fx series. DX9 is probably even worse then. You can try -useps20, -useps11 and -useff switches for halo to see the difference. Performance delta between mx 400 series and fx 5200 is surprisingly small btw. If you really have to go with fx series, try 5700,5900 or 5950. PS: For 2D, FX5200 is fine, but in 3D it gets destroyed by competition. An example. It's quite old, but you get the picture. 9500 pro is a mere shadow of 9800 levels, which is becoming the new mainstream due to x800 release.
  2. fx5200. It sucks completely and utterly.
  3. why 128 mb video card? Not saying, that 128 mb is bad, but there's a general idea that amount of ram indicates performance. Guess what, it's not true. If you'd buy a tnt2 with 128 mb ram(not really exists), it would be wasted, because it can't _use_ it. IT could do 1600x1200, but tnt2 core would handle 2 fps at most. Same thing with Radeon 9200s with 256 mb ram.. what a waste. I suggest buying and 9800 non-pro/pro/xt.. depending on your budget, or 9600XT. I'd avoid nvidia FX line, because DX9 frankly sucks on them. also.. why prescott? it's hotter, slower, overclocks less(since you buy ASUS board, i'd expect you do some overclocking). Northwood based 2.8C or 3.0C are the way to go.
  4. Strange.. i could disable dcom in 2149 no problem. I currently have 7 services on auto, which i deemed crucial. No problems disabling the rest.
  5. xpdeploy worked, will try xplode next time edit: if it works in windows, it should work in setup. same install(2144)
  6. seems like sp2 has improved after all
  7. Firefox settings are stored in "(drive):\documents and settings\(username)\application data\firefox\profiles\(unique profile name)" folder. In 0.9 it will change to "..\application data\mozilla\firefox\..". I'm not sure what files you need exactly, but i backup user.js and bookmarks.html.
  8. 9600XT is a good bargain, although like Shun Di said - 9800PRO is massively better, if you can afford it
  9. Your bottleneck is your radeon 9200. It quite frankly sucks at 3d 9200 is 9000 with agp 8x support(not that it matters with such slow memory). 9000 is castrated 8500. I suggest a 9600 pro/9800, it'll last you a while.
  10. It is Prescott, not EE. EE: 2 mb L3, 512 kb l2 prescott: 1mb l2
  11. Very strange.. beta6 and beta5 make larger cds/installs than beta2 did I checked _everything_ in beta6 and got 171 mb, in beta2 i left some things unchecked and got 157 mb. Could be an unique problem, but worth noticing.
  12. Hello, 1) No, hotfixes can and must be removed. SP2 RC1 has 3 hotfixes available from windows update, if you want to add some, these might are the right ones. 2) Yes, you need a new uxtheme.dll
  13. I think an option for custom files is really neat, something like FILESCD folder in xpcreate: it copies the contents of that folder into cd source, overwriting previous files. That way people who want their own uxtheme.dll/shell32.dll/etc can easily do so. another thing - can you make the log file in the folder that nlite.exe resides? I dont like it when it gets on my cd. otherwise very useful app, thanks alot
  14. I think that new updates are not needed because sp2 fixes holes in dcom/lsass/etc.
  15. doesn't run on sp2, sadly --image removed--
  16. install ffdshow and you are all set for decoding, as for encoding, i prefer xvid ffdshow xvid
