  1. If ya changed everything and tried tweak ui to try and rebuild the icon cache, and it still wont show up right, normally deleting shelliconcache would work. My prob is I have not been able to find it in XP. Maybe I'm bein lame again, but I did a search and cant find it. I do alot of changin of my gui and change and create icons all the time. but thank god XP hasnt given me that problem yet. Wrong icons was a big problem in ME n 98 tilll ya deleted shelliconcache. Rots A Ruck Piaqt, let us know if ya figure it out. Later Guys!
  2. Kewl desktop Aaron, I too use a double Quicklaunch Taskbar. i also have alot of stuff in my context menus. I use IrfanView, and CROA and other progs that end up making my menu quite long. Same here, it always goes under the quicklaunch. Pain in the Arse. Anyway, hope someones got a fix, gonna read the rest of the posts now to see. If anyone cares, heres a pick of my current desktop. And quit laughin at the AOL icon, my Wife cant live withoout AOL! Thanx everyone.
  3. Thanx Big Booger, thats the second time ya sent me to that site. That helped perfectly. Now I had time to look at the whole site more and Bookmark it! Kewl stuff in thar, kewl Site!!! I'll look for for stuff a little more in the future, but I appreciate da help! Thanx Again,
  4. C:WINDOWSRUNDLL32.EXE shell32,SHExitWindowsEx 2 C:WINDOWSRUNDLL32.EXE shell32,SHExitWindowsEx 1 These are 2 shortcuts I used to put on my desktop in 98 and ME. The first is a restart and the second is a shutdown shortcut. Does anyone know the path (if there is any) in XP so I can do the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx
  5. Same here with ME..never really had that many problems...but I must say XP, though I thought I would have to reformat once or twice, it seemed to work itself out, with either a reboot or just letting the sys hangout for awhile with no extra progs runnin'. Never needed to use restore in XP either.
  6. Went back to check out sharereactor today. I took a quick look at it last nite and it looked kewl, but sems they have some errors on there page now. Wanted to D/L EDonkey, but cant get there now...anyone know a way in or know wads up.
  7. Drewdatrip is right also after fdisking and reformating I would use the Microsoft Boot Floppys for XP. It seemed to make my install alot easier. Before ya do anything go to: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release...releaseid=33290 for the Home Edition or http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release...releaseid=33291 for the Pro for those who need them. You'll need 6 blank formatted floppys. then when your done getting your disk clean with the fdisk and format using the 98 or ME EBD...reboot with floppy number one and it will take you through it. It worked out good for me ...Good Luck!
  8. If it's a DOS Program ya want to stay open, I think it would be the same thing. Right click the progs shortcut, select properties, then program.....then make sure you UN-Click the radio button that says close on exit. Now the prog should stay open. But what do I know...I'm a newbee...but hope it works for ya!!! Strat4Play
  9. I use a shortcut on my desktop to keep a dos box close at hand. Right click a blank part of yur desktop, select "NEW", then "SHORTCUT". In the location type: command.com Click next, then name it wad ever ya like. Then ya gotta right click that when your done and click properties. Than select the "Program" tab, and uncheck the radio button to close on exit if you wanna keep it open while your working. While your on the program tab you can change the icon cause that MS Dos icon is still Fugly. Well thats and old one, but it still works. Rots A Ruck Strat4play
  10. Thanx Guys for your help so far. Will take a look at my sys later. I appreciate it. Strat4Play
  11. Guys hope ya can HELP? I MSCONFIG'ed all those nasty little progs that are on startup, I think I got the tray cleaned to my liking, anyway how do I go back now to Normal Startup. It may not make much of a difference. In ME and 98 you went to "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion" and to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion", there you would delete anything in the -Run and -RunServices folder. When you go there with XP..not all the progs you stopped from running on startup R there! Where are the entries? I was always told you should not run a selective startup, and in my eyes, it seems to boot faster in Normal startup, which I cant do till I find all these D/C'ed services. Thanx for you anticipated help Guys!!! Strat4Play
  12. Sup guys...I'm the newbee and my message may be a little late but here goes. Something a tech guy told me early on in my venture into the WWW (Wonderful World of Windows), and I'm finding it to hold true about XP. I'm using the home edition, and I find that ya gotta defrag at least once a day. I have Diskeeper 7.0 installed also, but I use XP's defrag. (Diskeeper enhances the Windows defrag) It takes me about 15 mins for my 20 gig Maxtor and no time at all for my 15 gig (no file system on the 15) When I had ME or 98, I was defraggin' in about 7 mins for the same drives. Well there's my first post, hope I helped, I'm still learnin' alot hope to learn more here. Please let me know when I F-UP on the board I'm new to forums also.. Thanx ....Strat4Play
