  1. This is usually a BIOS setting.
  2. Have you enabled FTP Folder View?
  3. Set up Internet Connection Sharing on the PC. Here's how: Internet Connection Sharing with Windows XP.
  4. This can be done by configuring a GPO: Computer Configuration / Windows Settings / Security Settings / Restricted Groups. Much easier, more flexible and no need for scripting.
  5. Check out the Shared Computer Toolkit for Windows XP.
  6. The GuiRunOnce command is executed at the first logon. Since this is an AutoLogon, the command runs in the local Administrator account context. This account most likely can't access the \\risk-server\c$ share. Try running the batch file from a local folder as cluberti suggested.
  7. *This topic* should point you in the right direction.
  8. Since this problem keeps reoccuring on the same PC, it might be hardware related. Check all USB settings in the BIOS setup for accuracy. Also make sure you have the latest & greatest USB drivers for your hardware. You didn't mention what XP service pack version you're running, but if you haven't done so already, install SP2.
  9. There are several freeware network inventory products around. Google is your friend.
  10. Well, if you import the registry entry like this, it is set during the Windows installation, which would seem early enough for me... The entry is also specified in Hivedef.inf, so you could try changing it there and see if that works.
  11. The desktop color is a per-user setting. The corresponding registry key is HKCU\Control Panel\Colors\Background. You could set this to white for all users by importing the following registry file from Cmdlines.txt: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Colors] "Background"="255 255 255" The initial desktop color would then be white for all users. They'd still be able to change it themselves though.
  12. And there's the ProductID option again! Thanks for the added confusion, Microsoft Unless it has something to do with activation: maybe you should use ProductID when activation is needed, and ProductKey when it isn't? I couldn't say myself; fortunately we have an Enterprise Agreement and volume license media over here.
  13. Next time, click the "click here" link to get more detailed information about the error. If this happens with all kinds of applications you will probably be able to find some common factor. You could also allow the error report to be sent; sometimes this actually leads to a solution.
  14. That doesn't work with Windows XP... Windows 2000 could be installed from volume license media without a key, but with Windows XP this is no longer possible.
  15. Well, this is all turning a bit academical, but just for giggles I downloaded the WinXP SP1 Deployment Tools and created a new answer file using the Setup Manager. It had a ProductKey entry; no reference to a ProductID setting in the accompanying Ref.chm. Unfortunately I can't get my hands on the RTM version of the Deployment Tools, so I can't check the entry in that version. I did find a reference though to what seems to be the original version: *click*. All other information I found searching the Internet suggests that the ProductID setting was used in previous Windows versions. They probably left it in for backwards compatibility.
  16. Not bad... I don't think you'll get any closer than this.
  17. Funny, "ProductKey" works fine with our WinXP SP2 source... Wouldn't be surprised if the two options were interchangeable.
  18. Boot from a Win98 CD and format the USB drive using the /s option. You could also try to make it bootable through the SYS command: SYS [drive]: ...but that might fail if the disk already contains data. Formatting the drive will erase all data from the disk!
  19. If that's all you need, consider removing all networking components except the TCP/IP protocol.
  20. Are you sure you didn't import the settings in Preference Mode?
  21. Hmmm, PaulIA's answer file also has a "ProductID" entry... Nothing about that in the reference I've always been using "ProductKey" without any problems. Could any of you explain where this entry comes from and what the difference is? Edit: 100th post
  22. If it includes the modified txtsetup.sif, then yes.
  23. Should be possible by setting "UnattendMode" to "DefaultHide". From the Preinstallation Reference: Edit: hmm, just spotted the following in the reference: You may be out of luck after all
  24. Shouldn't be a problem, as long as your BIOS supports booting from USB devices. You'd have to make the USB drive bootable yourself though.
  25. Sure: edit the appropriate GPO and navigate to User Configuration / Windows Settings / Internet Explorer Maintenance / Security. Edit the "Security Zones and Content Ratings" option and select "Import the current security zones and privacy settings".
