RyanVM
qchain hasn't been necessary for new hotfixes for over a year nowAnd to expand on what Alanoll said, here's what /integrate does:1.) Updates the hotfixed files in i386 with the GDR version of the file. The updated file is uncompressed (.dll instead of .dl_).2.) Copies the cat file for the hotfix exe to svcpack folder within i3863.) Renames hotfix exe to KBxxxxxx.exe and copies it to svcpack folder in i3864.) Adds entries to svcpack.inf to install hotfix catalog file and run the hotfix exe during setupSo what you end up with is an uncompressed hotfixed file in i386 and a hotfix exe and cab file in the svcpack folder. The advantage is that the updated file is used from the beginning, so vulnerabilities are patched from the beginning. The downside is that the exe must still be run to fully install the hotfix.@ DLF, I can assure that I release updated packs whenever any critical updates are released. No, I don't release new updates for minor updates that most people aren't affected by, but I do for major updates.
Vadikan
Thanks for your replies, guys. Before asking, I looked into the svcpack.inf and svcpack dir, and observed exactly what RyanVM says. Sorry, i should've mentioned that, but your posts will serve as an extended explanation of the /integrate switch. I just needed the clarification like If there are files within the pack that are newer then the ones that were present on the RTM of the OS, they are then replaced with the newer versions.and I got it
DLF
@ RyanVM & AlanollThanks for the explanation of the workings of the /integrate switch and the mechanics of what happens where and when as a result of its deployment. This was exactly the primer I needed in the subject but thats why I said in an earlier post that I would do a bit of googling for some answers as I didnt want to be cheeky and ask direct on the forum for this sort of in-depth answer - many thanks from me to you both. In conclusion, I've decided to stay with Ryan's update pack for my XPiso and I'm not going to bother "in between" as it will involve too much work and may only be relevant for a few weeks anyway. I am only going to produce an updated uA XPCD as and when Ryan's point releases come out. If any major issues arise in the meantime before v105 I will apply them manually to the machine but not add them to my iso.
