iceangel89 Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Is it because the XP is for x86 only? and can't be installed on a x64 PC or is it because i removed something i shouldn't?
D1s7urb4d Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 (edited) Without any kind of errors, this is a shot in the darkLooking at some Microsoft Knowledge base articles, there are XP (32bit) installs on AMD 64bit machines. Depends on the type of error you are getting. From the get-go, with a HP PC which I have, you need to load the sata (hard disk) drivers. Here is how I was able to do the install:Download sata drivers from HP, assuming your PC has Sata drive(s)Extract these drivers to a floppy diskDo the windows Xp install and when requested to add drivers (Forgot the syntax, f6 I believe to add mass drivers or something like that) insert the floppy diskNot a PC with a floppy disk or a laptop?Create a folder either d:\winxp or d:\winxpsp2 on separate PC, assuming you have 2 partitions C: and D:Copy your Windows Xp install disc to a folder on a separate PC:D:\winxp or D:\winxpsp2Download sata (hard disk) drivers from HPExtract these drivers to a floppy diskCopy these drivers from the floppy disk to a folder you created on the separate PC "D:\HPdrivers"D:\HPdriversDownload nLite from nLiteos.com and install on the separate PCnLite will ask where your distribution/source is, point this to your folder D:\winxp or D:\winxpsp2nLite will/can also ask about drivers (click the drivers button, when asked, point to D:\HPdriversnLite will/can create a .iso file of your windows Xp install plus the sata drivers for your HP PC.You will need software that can burn .iso files***Note, You should not get prompted for "mass drivers"Boot with your new disc and install Edited June 15, 2007 by D1s7urb4d
iceangel89 Posted June 15, 2007 Author Posted June 15, 2007 (edited) maybe i need SATA drives, as for errors, it gives an BSOD and restarts so quickly i cant see a thingbut if i require drives, wont it prompt me for it? instead of showing a BSOD?----------------- EDIT -----------------------------I just saw Microsoft Site about this, guess its something abt the IDE controller on a P965 Chipset. it says http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316401Does this mean i have to reformat the WHOLE HDD? i will be trying to create a partition marking it active then reboot and see how things go. actually what does ACTIVE mean? something abt which Partition is the boot partiion?
