June 10, 200719 yr I used vLite on 32 bit Ultimate edition and the scanner won't work. I did not get rid of WIA. The service is running. However, I have nowhere to install scanners. It doesn't appear in control panel. I tried installing drivers from the CD that came with scanner. It gave an error during the install process. I did choose to get rid of the scanner drivers though. I'm not sure if that was the cause. The scanner is an HP c4280. It's actually an all-in-one. The printer works perfectly fine.
June 11, 200719 yr Try to keep the Application Experience and WMP Codecs (and maybe WMP if needed) and please let me know if it helps, especially if you eliminate one of them.
June 11, 200719 yr Author I got rid of AE and kept WMP and the codecs. I'm guessing that's the problem. I'll report back whether it worked in a few days when I get the time to reinstall it. Thanks for the help.

June 13, 200719 yr Huh, ok, will check and report if I don't experience the same.I might have figured it out...i ran some googles and ran across some of this talk:With Windows Vista, Microsoft replaced the functionality of the Scanner and Camera Wizard with the Windows Photo Gallery. The Windows Photo Gallery allows ...and i removed the photo gallery...will make a new vlite of ultimate and keep the gallery and see.
June 13, 200719 yr I found my issue with the 'Scanner and Camera'If you elect to remove the 'Windows Photo Gallery'....then you will lose the 'Scanners and Camera' Icon and Applet in the Control Panel...and won't be able to view your connected Scanners or Camera...or be able to add Devices.
June 14, 200719 yr Author I kept Photo Gallery. I'm pretty sure I kept the Slide show thing too. Also, I do have Phones and Modems in my control panel.
June 15, 200719 yr jroc, great, thanks for the info.walaradu, so you have the scanners and cams icon in the control panel and "just" scanner install fails is the issue?
June 15, 200719 yr Author I solved the problem. It turned out that I didn't have Photo Gallery. I had kept Photo Viewer. Now that I kept Photo Gallery, my scanner works now. Thanks for the help.
