xandman
I have an AMD 64 X2 cpu. When going through nLite I choose ComputerType="ACPI Multiprocessor PC", Retail as the system type, but whenever I've installed xp to my virtual drive, it always comes up as Advanced Configuration and Power Interface PC when I check the system specs.I've had an unattended xp cd for a while, for my old single cpu system, but since upgrading my hardware, my software has to follow. I'm not really familiar with nLite, so I'm not an advanced user where this stuff is concerned. After doing a lot of reading in forums and groups, I've come to the conclusion that a LOT of people have this same issue, but I can't find a resolution. Can I get some advice on how to make the system be a multiprocessor one?
Camarade_Tux
Usually, you don't even need to set this option; windows should find it by itself and as far as I'm concerned, it has always done so (I'm running XP on a Turion64X2 and no prob).
Silvereyes
The 'Computer Type' option is a legacy feature which is supposedto control the selection of the HAL.In practice it rarely works properly and is best left for the installer todecide the most appropriate type. xandman
So how come on my old system I had to set it up in winnt.sif as an acpi system or it defaulted to 'standard pc' if i didn't intervene (F5) during set up? Maybe I'll remove the line and see how the system comes out in virtual pc. Is that all I'd have to remove? No files, etc?
Silvereyes
hehe...I did say it was supposed to control the selection of theHAL. I also said it rarely works properly Ok. Some Questions...What are you using to check the system specification?Have you checked the Task Manager -> Performance tab?How many CPU Usage History graphs are shown? If windows is reporting it's an "Advanced Configuration andPower Interface PC" and you have two cpu graphs then Iwould suggest that there is no problem. That it's turned outexactly as you wanted.
xandman
Device manager shows me "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface PC." System properties lists it properly, as an "Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+" but Task Manager/Performance shows only one CPU.
Camarade_Tux
There's an option to remove dual processor support in nlite. Maybe you did.You should *attach* your lastsession.ini to one of your post.
xandman
OK.......so is there a way to pause the installation at the beginning to specify what kind of system it is? Instead of being on alert to press F5, that is. For now I'm going to start from scratch with my original XP SP1 cd just to make sure there are no altered files, nothing messed up somewhere along the lines. Integration is easy, it's the rest of this stuff that's not so good.
