After I connect my Orange broadband there's a long delay during which time the computer does not seems to be doing anything.

Anyone have any insight into this? Thanks greatly.

Make sure, if you're using IE, to uncheck Automatic Configuration in the Connection settings.

Also, what type of connection is Orange? Cable or ADSL?

Its probably when your router is assigning an ip address to your network card, altering your ip to a static address in network settings speeds things up. Assigning a number greater than 192.168.7.1 (which will be your router address) i.e 192.168.7.11, then putting 192.168.7.1 into your default gatewayshould help

In IE settings Auto Config is not ticked but Auto Detect Settings is. I'm on Orange Broadband - billed as 8MB but in practice around 5MB!

@oscardog - Don't use a router. (PS - Ai Cymro ydach chi? :unsure: )

Remove the check for Auto Detection.

And you still didn't answer the question? Is Orange via Cable or ADSL (Telephone)?

@jcarle - Sorry, it's ADSL ...

I shall try unticking the Auto Detect as you suggest

Shall let you know how it goes

Don't have a white box. All I have is the green SpeedTouch modem Orange (then Freeserve) made me pay through the nose for!

Ouch, thats a shame. Orange gives a wireless/wired router free with some monthly phone contracts and free 2mb broadband, £5 extra per month for 8 meg. All national/local calls anytime from a landline are are also free of charge. Might be worth a call.

All the best

I'm not happy with Orange right now so I'll pass on that one! Thanks! :blushing:

@jcarle - can't really say it has made a difference

In that case, it may very well be that your actual connection may be responsible. ADSL tends to have a somewhat lengthy startup delay at times. Perhaps your modem is often resynching?
