patchworks
Seems that Cody Brocious (one of the reverse engineers behind the barelly legal PyMusique DRM-free iTunes client) released a preview build for the Alky Project. There's a related discussion about it on the ROS forum too. Last but not least, ReactX (the open source DirectX clone) is on the way. MDGx
Unfortunately these patches/workarounds are meant only for NTx [Win2000/XP] OSes.To port such projects to Win9x requires probably a lot of work or worse, not possible.
eidenk
DX10 cannot even run on XP though some people are working at it.http://www.fallingleafsystems.com/
jcarle
It's just a matter of time before we'll be able to have DX10 on XP. Remember how they said that we'd never be able to bypass DVD encryption? Then they said the same thing about HD-DVD and BluRay. The same thing will happen with DX10, they'll keep saying "No no no, it's for Vista only. You just can't do it with XP." and in a few months, everyone will be able to get DX10 running on XP.
