mosaddique Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Hello everyone,I am a newbie to this forum and to HFSLIP so apolgies in advance if these questions have been asked and answered already. When the HFSLIP folder is created and the files from hfslip extracted to it, the hfslip-1.4.2.cmd is executed to create the required directory structure. Can you use this empty directory structure as a template?Does this step have to be repeated or can you just clear out the directory contents to start afresh? Do you need to clear out the directory contents if you are just reruning HFSLIP after rectifying an error (e.g. a missed fix file) ?New patches are issued by Microsoft after one has created an HFSLIP CD. Can I simply retain my earlier directory structure and add/remove fixes from the various folders and reuse it? Can I reuse it later to add some silent, switchless installers? In our familiy we have a number of PCs and Laptops which have XP HOME DELL OEM, XP HOME Retail (Upgrade really), XP Pro DELL OEM and XP PRO Retail.I was thinking of using the same directory structure and just replacing the contents of the SOURCE directory each time. Is that feasible?
Kiki Burgh Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 hi mosaddique! if i remember it correctly somebody already posted inquiry along the same lines ... you can add newer updates (or even addons & silent installers) to your existing directories but you have to run the cmd again for proper extraction of new binaries ... i'm certain the others can comment about this in more detail ...
Super-Magician Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Hello, mosaddique. The answer to all of your questions is "yes, you can reuse the directory structure." HFSLIP does not modify the contents of any directory except the temporary directories it creates while the program is running (which are then deleted afterwards) and the SOURCESS directory, which contains the final product.
