January 14, 200224 yr I have a conexant 56 modem which according to their homepage has no new drivers for XP, however offered a download for a generic modem driver which works fine. However it is stuck on the hissing noise that happens at the end of the handshake. I am dialed in, everything works and i have sound turned off in modem properties. How can I stop the infernal hissing?tiaJadzia
January 14, 200224 yr Go to control panel > phone and modem options. On the modems tab highlight your modem and hit the properties button. On the advanced tab type "ATM0" (without quotes),in the "Extra initialization commands" box.Click OK and apply. You modem should now be silent.By the way the 0 in ATM0 is zero not the letter O.
January 14, 200224 yr The modem may have a faulty chip.Or you may have a noisy line.Have you got another modem you can try?
