    I have a conexant 56 modem which according to their homepage has no new drivers for XP, however offered a download for a generic modem driver which works fine. However it is stuck on the hissing noise that happens at the end of the handshake. I am dialed in, everything works and i have sound turned off in modem properties. How can I stop the infernal hissing? tia Jadzia
