zaphirer Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Hi everyone I've had a very recent computer problem pop-up within the last 2 days. Various strips of distorted color and scanlines have begun appearing on my screen. The strange thing is, it sometimes reverts to normal, and it doesn't seem permanent. For example, if I open up the start button, it draws just fine. Same for the mouse. It does, however, appear even during POST.It's on an IBM Thinkpad, T23. Only a few days old. (I was in the process of setting it up.)I have just recently updated the graphics drivers to 12.90.90 (or something like that; the latest from S3/Via's website). puntoMX Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Welcom to the forum zaphirer.I can´t see any thing bad on that screen shot...But, 2 things I could think of:- Bad RAM, remember it´s shared RAM for system and VGA; Test it with MEMtest or so.- LCD Display connections on top of the screen, that you cant fix, are bad; Test it with the VGA/TV out if posible. Also, as a tip, I would look at nLite to kick out the crap from XP you will never use, more info on nLite you can find here on the forum .

I presume this means a hardware problem with the Thinkpad's LCD? Anyone know if there's anything I can do about that?
ripken204 Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 well it is a possibility that the lcd is dying.. its rare but it does happen. if you cant find a solutuion then you can get it replaced.
puntoMX Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 The top tab is to thing, this is why they break to easy. I have seen it before. Also the cable to the LCD could be defective. If you are handy you could start to buy that cable on eBay, but you have to take the whole thing apart. If you are not handy then you could take it to a repair shop but the charge big money to fix it, like 100 US$ for the cable and or 250-350 for the LCD, to d@mn expensive if you ask me.Let us know if you need some help .
