Panzerbjorn
Lo all,I've been trying for two days now to get an nlite installation to work. Most of that time was getting the VIA RAID drivers intergrated but I've solved that now. However, it's still not letting me complete an installation. madkillaramsey
what necessarily is the problem? what happens?
Panzerbjorn
Hi ramseyBasically this is what happened with the last attempt. It starts up the windows install fine, I see the partitions and I select where I want to install windows. It makes the list of files to copy across and this is where the problem starts. I was making a list of all the files that it stopped at, but after 15 I got bored. I kept skipping them to see how far I would get. After the restart it loaded up the usual windows installation screen and copied a few files across until I got the error "Shell32.dll is missing, Setup is unable to continue".I'm guessing there's a problem with the cd not copying the files over. Could it be that there's a problem with the HDD as well? Or is it more likely the disk? I was having problems with the normal WinXp cd as well until I changed the partition on which to install it to. But they were different problems all together. The original disk would copy all the files over fine and then on the propper installation screen it would complain about Disk Drive being unable to install... then it would BSOD me after the final restart.Any ideas? CheersPanzer
Panzerbjorn
Hi guys, Just thought I would give you an update. I've actually managed to get windows to install from the nlite made disk! However, there were still a lot of files that didn't copy across during the installation and there are a few other problems: First it takes about five minutes to load up the desktop. It says "starting windows" on the welcome screen and just when you thing you're going to have to re-start, it loads onto desktop. My normal XP installation loads instantly. The other issues i have:Half the processes needed for things like internet access are switched off, I didn't select them to be off when I made the disk, I left most as 'default' which I assumed would be automatic. Some of the processes that are set to automatic dont actually start like they should...Just thought I would mention, the service thats turned off that lets me connect to the internet is "Workstation" and DHCP is off too.The other problem I have is that I can't activate it. The icon apears in the taskbar but disapears when I click on it...Anyone got any idea what I've done wrong. Its a start but it's not good enough Thanks guysPanzer Edited February 28, 2007 by Panzerbjorn
xpphil
my nlited home edition also doesn't have the options I set. It may be worse than a regular CD install but I'm hoping I can get the nlite version to take. It worked well with a XP pro version.Maybe my previous settings from the XP pro interferred with Home. I did the XP first and then loaded the home edition in separate folder and went through the options again.Shall I try it again or is this a normal problem with trying to nlite home.( I have home edition with SP2)
Kelsenellenelvian
You need to learn to use vmware or virtualPC (which is free now btw)
