  1. I suspected that, but I haven't tried because we use a backup program from one computer that backs up over the LAN with mapped network drives. I will investigate and experiment and see if I can get the classic type file sharing to work and see if that doesn't correct this issue. That is I believe we have the simple file sharing in place and need to go back to win98 type. Actually, I think the home edition of simple file sharing may be the problem. Are you saying home edition should have that warning message? I'm thinking when they downgraded the home edition file sharing from the win98 classic type, this warning message was disabled. I'm not at those computers to check it out. Thanks
  2. win98 use to warn on shutdown if there were other LAN users connected to your computer. Winxp just unceremoniously disconnects them and may leave files open. any way to get this back. using mix of pro and home editions.
  3. I nlited pro edition with very nice success, establishing some of my typical settings with classic desktop, task bar and start folder as well as LAN settings. I decided to copy over a home edition to another folder and try it. I used the previous pro settings and modified to suit Home Edition accordingly. Named another logon name as added administrator. But it isn't taking, the desktop and taskbar and startfolder settings aren't taking and there is no LAN network setup completed. They may be other things not taking also but I uninstalled it. Is it wrong to use previous settings from another nlite? Or is there something else I should do to get a home edition to nlite. Thanks
  4. my nlited home edition also doesn't have the options I set. It may be worse than a regular CD install but I'm hoping I can get the nlite version to take. It worked well with a XP pro version. Maybe my previous settings from the XP pro interferred with Home. I did the XP first and then loaded the home edition in separate folder and went through the options again. Shall I try it again or is this a normal problem with trying to nlite home. ( I have home edition with SP2)
  5. I have a XP oem SP1a I bought years ago and want to slipstream SP2 with nlite. I then figure on autopatching from there with recommended hotfixes. Is that a plan, or do I need to apply hotfixes to the SP1a along with SP2? My computer which will have the XPsp1a has limited and little internet use and is only an office workstation also it only has DUN access for patches so I figure I can download patches from my home computer which has DSL access. Thanks
