Brando569 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 now i cant boot into my xp64 installation
toy4x4 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 now i cant boot into my xp64 installation It it's the standard message that it can't find the ntldr or whatever, you siply need to boot to vista and edit the boot.ini file on the XP partition to change the partion number to the right one.I created myVista partition at the start of my boot drive and installed Vista. Before XP was the first partition but now it was the second partition and boot.ini was wrong. There should be plenty of messages on how to really fix this.
Brando569 Posted February 26, 2007 Author Posted February 26, 2007 thanks, ive never really understood the boot.ini file. this is the line from it:multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWSand its located on disk 0 and the first (only) logical partition. theres only 3 partitions: the logical with xp inside it and a primary partition. i didnt change the location of xp so it should still work right? vista is on disk 1
Scubar Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Vista has most likely made itself the Primary Active partition in which case you will need to edit the boot options in Vistas god awful boot manager. I despise it.
Brando569 Posted March 2, 2007 Author Posted March 2, 2007 yea it does suck, how do i change the active partition?
ripken204 Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 well i beleive that the vista disk manager can do it. if not then both parition expert and partition magic can do it.
