Vista Pre-Install from SBS2003 Not Working

Hi, we have copied the install.wim file onto our SBS2003 and created the

following answer file:

When we boot from the pre-install CD with the floppy disk with the

Autounattend.xml file in we get the MS-DOS screen with:

X:\windows\system32\wpeinit\

X:\windows\system32\

The system then just stops.

We have shared the folder that the install.wim is in and we have validated

the answer file.

Any ideas what we are doing wrong?

EDIT:

You need to connect PE to the Network first or you need to check if it's connected to the network properly.

Can you send a ping to the SBS (IP and Name). Can you access the share using net use?

Still getting to DOS screen with nothing else loading! - My .xml file is below:

Everything compiles OK in the Image program.

Any ideas what is going on? - Using a network card that works fine with our Windows XP pre-installs.

I think this may be becuase of your starnet.cmd file. I am currently installing vista over the network so I am in the same boat as you. I keep the entire source directory available and the setup.exe file. Then, after wpeinit is loaded completly, I type "net use P: \\server\vista" to map the network drive and 'P:\setup.exe /unattend:"P:\ConfigurationSet\AutoUnattend.xml"' to start the install. Now of course you will have to change the references for your own personal settings.

There is another way to implement these commands into your winpe disk. After opening up the WinPE image, edit the startnet.cmd in the system32 directory. Add those lines to it after the winpeinit command. Let me know if this helps.
