erpdude8 Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 He could try Flash 8. As for the 26 MB RAM bit, I think that's a typo, as you can't have that amount of RAM, and a missing 5 fits right in to form 256. thanks for pointing that out, BenoitRen.Flash Player 7.x is the last one supported under Win95 SR2 systems. Flash 8 and 9 require Win98/NT4 SP6a or higher.
erpdude8 Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 (edited) Well I have now upgraded my Pentium Pro 200 with on Overdrive Chip to a Pentium II 333MHz So basically I have just added 66% more clock speed and MMX.So I'm off to do some Flash 9 testing.Wish me luckguys, here is the page for Flash Player 9's System Requirements:http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/...nfo/systemreqs/for Windows, a minimum of Pentium II 450Mhz CPU with 128MB of RAMA P2 333Mhz processor isn't fast enough to handle Flash 9, galahsthat's why you have to use a P3 500Mhz processor or fasterGet Flash Player 8. That might work okay on a 333Mhz CPU. You can download it here:http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flash...fp8_archive.zipalso, I have experienced occasional FLASH9B.OCX crashes on my WinXP SP2 system with IE7 when browsing the NBA.COM web site. I didn't have this problem with the NPSWF32.dll Flash 9 plugin when using Seamonkey/Firefox/Netscape 8.1.2 browsers. we'll definitely report the Flash 9 OCX problem to Adobe. Let's report it several times until Adobe releases a new version of Flash 9 Player. Edited February 16, 2007 by erpdude8
galahs Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 I'm used to running software on less than the 'recommended system requirements'.So far I have not had a single problem with Flash 9 content since the processor upgrade
erpdude8 Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 I'm used to running software on less than the 'recommended system requirements'.So far I have not had a single problem with Flash 9 content since the processor upgrade that's great. though I wish you made a CPU ugprade to 400Mhz. a 400Mhz Pentium 2 processor (or 400Mhz Pentium Celeron CPU) would be good enough to use a DVD player on your computer. playing DVD videos demand at least that much cpu power.have you updated your computer's BIOS to recognize the 333Mhz CPU, galahs?I think the Flash 9 OCX crashes just happen very few times. try using the Flash 9 Netscape/Mozilla based plugin [NPSWF32.DLL] with Firefox/Seamonkey browsers. they should also work great on your PC.
galahs Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 (edited) Being a Pentium Pro System it has a socket 8 motherboard.Therefor the fastest available processor for it was the "Pentium II Overdrive 333MHz"Its actually better than a standard Pentium II as its 512k L2 cache runs at full speed (333MHz) not half speed like in the Pentium II & Pentium 3. Xeon like I have run DVD's in software mode using PowerDVD 4 with only an occasional glitch here or there (I have Win98 running with almost no hidden programs running), but I also have a Creative DXR3 mpeg2 accelerator which gives me full hardware DVD playback. As for bios, I upgraded my MB bios back in 2000, and so it was compatible with the Overdrive chip.Being an Overdrive upgrade, it required no jumper changes or bios setting changes. It was basically a plug and play change over.last of all still I have had no problems with any Flash content. Edited February 24, 2007 by galahs

herbalist Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 galahs,Got a link handy to one of the sites that flash would crash on? I'm running flash 9.0.28 on a 98 box with 366mhz and 160MB RAM and haven't seen this problem. Rick

I'm running flash 9.0.28 on a 98 box with 366mhz and 160MB RAM and haven't seen this problem. RickYouTube was a major problem, but as I mentioned it seemed to be a lack of MMX that caused the problem, and 366MHz CPU's have mmx or 3dnow so it wouldn't happen on your system
herbalist Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Thanks. I'll snoop around YouTube. I'm just curious to see if it really does need 500mhz to function properly. I also use several apps that claim to need 500 or 550 mhz to work, and they run fine with 366mhz.Rick
