Insert the ASUS mainboard CD, when you try to install the drivers of your "Unknown Device". It's propably the ACPI device.

ok that was weird... im doing a lot of fiddling so im reseting every now and then... after a few resets it seems to have just vanished.... ok well that means all my problems for now are gone! so this thread is done for me, thanks for your help everyone you all saved me more hassle than you know.

Just in case: That could have been COM/Serial Port or Firewire controller if removed in Hardware Support.

Just turn them off in BIOS too and it won't be listed.

i left the drivers n hardware sections well alone incase something like this happened. once ive finished doing my new xp DVD i was going to test it on virtual pc to test it.

btw does anyone know where this "Quick Launch" add-on is? the one that makes the quick launch always on during windows installation?
